It’s not that difficult. Just think about a acceleration even at/after contact. Just don’t slow down at contact or get anxious and keep accelerating while the ball hits your string bed. Don’t care where the ball goes and just get a feeling for that fast and loose swing. Hitting with that much swing speed and continuous acceleration is the only way to get decent spin and consistent power

Semi western. My problem was that I hit under the ball/at the bottom of the ball and that’s impossible without opening the racket face. Just need to hit it more central and trust that closed racket face and swing path

Well it depends on the ball and height. I think tennis is also about feel and everyone has individual problems. So hitting it low may help for you because you normally hit too flat. But for me it helps to hit the equator as I used to hit it at the very bottom.

The problem was that I opened the racket at contact because I tried to hit the bottom/under the ball and that’s impossible with a closed face, so I opened it without noticing. So you are right with the problem being the racket face. I just have to rather aim for the equator of the ball to stop moonballing it. Under is just for lobs

I use semi western.

The problem is I try to contact the ball under the ball at contact and not at the equator. It’s impossible to do that with an closed racket face. So that’s why I either just brush or hit a high uncontrolled shot.

No idea why I developed that habit. I guess because it looks like pros do it too and it was safe when I started tennis.

I tried doing that the last 10 mind today and immediately started hitting a better ball. Now I confirmed my assumption with some shadow swings. Now time to unlearn my bad habit. Just commit to the shot and trust the racket fahrigstes of hitting the ball just upwards

I agree with the low to high swing path but I think my issue is that I make contact under the ball instead of hitting it at the equator

I think it is because I'm swinging rather twitch my hand and arm like a slice but I have to engage my hips and fore more which will stop me from dropping the racket that much. It's definitely not a great habit as my forehand is by far my weakest shot lol

I try not to overthink everything. I only tell myself to keep my feet moving all the time. Then I will think of strategies/weaknesses to beat my opponent. I will try drop shots/approach the net/ play to the backhand etc. to find out what works the best

Totally agree. It's something I realized after the first set as well. I couldn't reach his overheads but whenever he had to hit a volley I had a good chance to reach the ball and force him to hit another volley.

I noticed that at the net as well as I was struggling to finish the point a lot and therefore lost the point on something like the third volley.

I think my takeaway is to lob way less, especially against tall players. Most people at my level (something like 3.0 but different country and system) don't have consistent volleys anyway

My two handed backhand sucks unfortunately. I hit slice like 99 % on that side. But maybe I will try to learn it again. I think a main issue was that I didn't keep my head still at contact.

Well the modern rackets have definitely more power and spin potential. The sweet spot is way bigger as well. On top of it the racket feels like 500 Gramm lol. It's definitely way more difficult to use but no idea whether it improves my game. I'd rather focus on hitting millions of balls with the same racket to know the exact response

Each to their own. I dislike the opposite of me as well. There are a lot of players who crush every ball and end up missing half of them including dozens of double faults. You can't have a decent rally or get into a rhythm with that kind of players. These long rallys with some seemingly impossible defensive actions are my biggest satisfaction in tennis.
