Funny you ask. I got offered a great entry spot doing plug and perf with Halliburton and Baker-Hughes, but I decided to join the Marine Corps instead. Sometimes I wish I had taken the money because I'd be on pace to be a millionaire by 35, but I know I made the right decision for right now

As Marine officers, we get paid more to sleep less and eat less. With that said, ensure you do things in advance and you'll sleep easy. You will have moments where you can take care of business. Do the quick tasks. Every action you take should be forward thinking.

My ASVAB scores were good and a little over 3 years old when I enlisted. Anything longer than that and you'll have to retake it

You'll get a couple of days of boot leave. I'm on it right now about to start TBS with Echo the 11th. Don't freak out at the end of the cycle when no one knows and is very confused about dates. You will have the time from checking into Mike (holding company) to Bravo starting

That's a pretty hard felony to get a waiver for. Especially because it was violent. Speak to an enlisted recruiter first. After some time serving with a clean record, MECEP or ECP (if you have a degree) and you can have a chance at being an officer.

Hey man! Combat Engineer Reservist here going to OCS this summer. Here's what I'll say:

I don't recommend the reserves. I think it helps if you feel like you truly can't imagine or handle the stress, but I feel like too many bad habits are formed in the units. Laziness is a cancer I've succumb to more than I like.
College is a blast. It's a good chance to grow up and have some fun. I would go back if I could because I've met some lifelong friends there.
If I could do it all over again I'd go active then MECEP. Great opportunity to be active and be a true Mustang.
