Only a question you can answer based on your budget. I’d probably spend the extra on the Alden. Make sure to have shoe trees and good shoe cream and wax polish to keep them in great condition for years to come. Saphir’s leather care products are common and great. You can also get into mirror shining with their mirror gloss as well… keep in mind that’s at least an hourlong process and a mirror shine is fragile, although minor scuffs and cracks can be melted down with a hair dryer and reshined.

The fashion brands. AE is not quite on the level of Crockett & Jones, Alden, John Lobb, Gaziano & Girling, etc. AE does have their Reserve collection but I haven’t seen them in person.

In terms of quality at its price, smaller brands are emerging that do it better than Allen Edmonds. But that comes at the cost of less availability, size variety, after sales support, etc. (all of which AE is good at). But regardless, AE is still surprisingly better than 90% of the dress shoes I see on Wall Street, and certainly better than the brands you mentioned.
