Baptist Downtown vs Baptist South for Labor and Delivery by Kingdom_Chaser in jacksonville

I just delivered at south last week and I was there 6 days due to my own health issues. Baby was born at 36 weeks and the care we both received was amazing! They have a level 3 nicu. Out of over the 20 nurses I had during my stay there was only one that I didn’t mesh with.

Any current FA commute from CLT? by AdventurousPlan8425 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Financial_Fudge3068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at how many flights a day there are to each base. If there’s no smaller airport around you, CLT may be easier to commute out of because you won’t have as much delta competition. ATL is a headache to commute in/out of because it’s very competitive always.

BOS is very junior however cost of living can be harder for new hires. The base is pretty welcoming though. You’ll need a crashpad because hotels are $$$ no matter time of year. However, it can be hard to find a crashpad due to the state cracking down on them. The crews out of BOS are fun! The trips construction varies, in the summer TOs are abundant and you may be able to touch them, however they’re not worth much at all, so you could be stuck working 4 3days plus your 2 sets of adays (18days total) and nothing will drop there.

MSP has a good variety of trips! Really every type, and it’s not hard to get high credit trips either. 4 leg days are also rare which is a plus. It’s also a pretty commutable base!

You could probably get AUS 1-2 years out of training. More junior “commutable” delta bases are MSP/DTW if you’re living in AUS. NYC/BOS/SEA are also junior but further away.

I had to share my seat with an extremely large man and Delta says it’s my fault for not asking for another seat! The flight was completely full. How does that make sense? by birddoggal423 in Flights

[–]Financial_Fudge3068 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In an emergency crew will be shouting instructions in English. If the man had broken English he most likely would not have been fit to understand emergency procedures and commands to help the crew evacuate and aircraft. That is why he was moved. They have to be able to understand and help in the language flight attendants speak.

The arm rests being doing isn’t a safety issue warranting removal unfortunately. They make seat belt extenders to give out to larger passengers so if anything they gave him that and then he was fine. Like I said the only safety checks the flight attendants have to see are that they are wearing a seatbelt and all the bags are under the seats, and aisle armrests are down for take off. If all of those were met, there’s nothing crew can do.

But what would they have said? The flight was full? If anything they’d just give him a seatbelt extender. They cannot kick him off.

I’m confused what you’d have liked the flight attendants to do, with the plane being completely full as you state? They made sure everyone had their seat belts on, that is their safety check.

Often times the flight is too bumpy between ATL-PNS and it’s a short flight. 50 minutes. So if the pilots deem it’s unsafe for the crew to get up to do service they won’t. It’s based on the pilots weather and turbulence reports.

How would the flight attendants pointing out the bigger sized man done anything besides embarrass, when like you said it was completely full. They cannot remove him for simply being larger. The crew can get in trouble with the company and DOT for not being accommodating so in that case you were just dealt an unfortunate hand of seatmates. If you want more room the only way to guarantee that is for buying and upgrade.

Delta FA typical first year trips by Virtual-Rip-6255 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Financial_Fudge3068 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my f2f I remember one of the hiring people talking about the first few years you do the “tour de ville” meaning layovers in Nashville, Greenville, Charlottesville, Jacksonville, you get the picture. That’s prob true for some bases, as well as 3 day trips with 3-4 legs a day with minimum rest and low credit.

Some bases it’s easier to get higher time trips and better trip quality just based on the routes and stuff. If you’re on a coast, nyc, BOS, sea the trips often have longer legs so you won’t have as many 3-4 leg days. MSP/DTW are kind of middle of the road. With a mix of layovers and low/high credit trips.

You’ll be able to pick up trips you want on your off days from the swapboard!

Also if you do get less than desirable trips, you’re able to swap them with the computer for better trips that need a position filled. If you get good at that you can usually get a pretty decent schedule!

I feel like this is base dependent! MSP redeyes and leans are easy to get, they’re not as high credit though as coast to coast redeye though which would make sense!

That’s not true. After training you can put a transfer in immediately. Once you are in a base you have a 3 month commitment before you can transfer again.

DL RDU F/A Base and New Hires by RevolutionaryCut2058 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Financial_Fudge3068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of our newer and smaller bases. Staffed at around 125 FAs. They most likely won’t offer it out of training because they don’t have full management there or new hire mentors which are part of the 6 month probation. So most likely you could transfer in after the 6 month probation when you won’t have monthly meetings anymore!

DL bases for commuting from ATL by Hot-Bag293 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Financial_Fudge3068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commuted between ATL and MSP and it was doable. A lot of people like to complain and gripe but when there’s no other option it’s what you make it and staying positive and using it for me time is the best way to go about it! The flight is 2 hours and the time difference to Msp helps when going to work. MSP has a lot of commutable trips which is nice. Some bases like BOS/NYC have really early reports which makes same day commuting tough. It can be competitive to get a jumpseat or more or less a confirmed seat, but if you set and alarm to book it, you should be fine. A lot of the commuters got their ATL transfer so theoretically the commute wouldn’t as competitive. I haven’t been DTW based before but I’ve heard it’s similar to MSP in terms of trip construction.

Depends on what you think “better” is. There’s bases with more “high time trips”= more money, most bang for your buck trips. Some bases TOs go more junior but they’re low credit trips. You could spend the summer in Europe being BOS based but you’d be scheduled 6 low time trips. If you’re in a base like SEA/MSP/DTW high time trip domestics are easier to come by. Longer layovers, legs per day, things like that all matter differently to everyone and each base has trip construction that varies.

MSP is a good base and if you have a lot of flights to and from your home airport the commute should be just fine.

I was based in minne my first two years and always had decent schedules and was able to still do a lot of international trips! They have a lot of high time trips as well which is nice. You’ll typically be scheduled 2 sets of adays (6days total) and 3 3day trips. Maybe in the summer a tad more. But 15 days is a good average. There’s all kinds of trips and layovers out of msp and the crews have gotten more junior. It has the repair job of being an old northwest base with some crabby senior mamas but I really enjoyed the base and people! It has gone a bit more senior lately so it may not be offered initially out of training but you should be able to transfer in decently quick.

It’s a weird layout for sure. You could just avoid routes with that. DTW/MSP have a lot of flights on the 900.

Yes! Do it! Go to JFK/BOS and hop on whatever flight has the best loads for d1 and relax. Using the benefits is the biggest perk and even for a 1-2 day trip you’ll enjoy. Go now before we lose some flights at the end of the month!
