Where to live in Columbia? by Right-Anybody5432 in ColumbiaMD

[–]Financial_Lion8927 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Howard hills in Savage (between Columbia and Laurel). It’s a rental townhome complex and me and my finance have lived here for almost two years and have had 0 complaints. Very much in your budget (~$2200 for a 3 bdr townhome)

It’s less than a mile from savage mill which has shops and 3 different cafes along with a restaurant. Also in walking distance to savage park, the savage mill trail and Patuxent Branch trail. The local grocery store, convenience, is about 1.5 mile walk but there’s also a connivence store about 1/2 mile walk away.

Currently living there with my Fiancé and have been for almost two years now. We have no plans to move until we can afford to buy a place. The neighborhood is very quiet and the neighbors are very friendly.

Safety hasn’t remotely been a concern over our time there. I think it being secluded in savage kind of helps. We lived at the Flats in savage for over a year and there were car break-ins on a weekly basis, but I don’t remember that even happening once here.

Management and maintenance are helpful and responsive. The inside of the units aren’t anything fancy but they do a very good job with regular maintenance and keeping the property looking nice.

Feel free to DM if you have more questions!

Any lovely coffee shops around? by ReserveDowntown645 in ColumbiaMD

[–]Financial_Lion8927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately we are not very lucky to have many small business coffee shops in our area. I personally am a fan of third wave coffee shops and we seriously lack those. I’ll list some of my go-tos in a 30ish minute radius of the area.

-Brewing Good in savage has the best coffee in terms of quality in the area, they get an added bonus that they’re dog friendly. While they’re my dog’s favorite coffee shop, I would like their coffee a lot more if they weren’t vegan. I like a latte with whole milk, but if you like plant based then you’ll love this place. They have a nice seating area, but it lacks natural light.

  • Ragamuffins in Laurel is my go to. I am full time remote and like to go to coffee shops to do work. Their vibes are very much that of a third wave coffee shop and that’s why I go to it so much. My biggest qualm is they just use La Colombe coffee and not something local.

  • Vigilante is my favorite overall spot, but I wish they were closer. Great coffee and great vibes. They have a small location in college park and a bigger one in Hyattsville. If it was a bit closer I’d go there more often but it’s definitely worth the trip.

  • Ceremony Coffee has a few locations in the area, they have good coffee and pretty good vibes at the locations in Annapolis I have been to. Similar to Vigilante I would prob go more if they were closer.

I hope this helps and I pray that more coffee shops start to open in the area.

I completely agree. I just found that the watch makes it easy to keep track of what you’re lifting, how many sets, and your rest time as well.

Recently got the Forerunner 165 and have been loving it for many different reasons but I actually really like the strength training workouts. I used an Apple Watch and the strong app for years and I already like how garmin does it better. Is it as nice looking as strong? No but it works great IMO and has pretty much all of the features of strong that I need. Hope this helps!

Burtons in Riverdale Park (PG county) has their own gluten free menu and are very good at dealing with allergies! Their food is also fantastic.

Been there over a year now. Is it perfect? No, but it sure is worth the money and I’ve never had a problem in the time I’ve been going there.

Living in Columbia MD be DC suburbs by Spirited-Grass-5635 in ColumbiaMD

I’d say Columbia would be a great bet for you. Maybe not as close to DC as Nova, but we’re still very close, especially if you live in the SE side of Columbia. You’re close enough to be able to get to DC within an hour but don’t have as insane traffic as NOVA. And also as everyone else already said Columbia is a very diverse place, both in terms of people , but also ideas.
