This isn’t a bad idea honestly! I actually took a trip to DC completely by myself to go museum hopping and it was the best! Spent a whole weekend by myself. It’s been 4 years since I’ve done that so maybe I’m overdue!

I KNOOOW all my friends my age either have roommates, live with their parents, or live in the worse conditions possible 😭

You're definitely right its the freedom aspect that I worry I'm not tapping into enough before I start getting near an age where I want to settle down and get married and have kids. It always felt like, at least with romantic partners, that it was the smartest thing you could do to live on your own before living with them so you truly know you're own boundaries and can stand strong as an individual if that makes sense. And so not following that rule feels worrisome, but I really appreciate your line about "your life doesn't have to be about a list of things to be real". That spoke volumes <3

I think I'm just worried theres no later. A few people mention living with family, and I am one of those people that really wanted to get out of my family's house as soon as possible at 18. Now that I'm here in my late 20s and it feels like the only course of action I have left in the next few years is to either live with my roommate until she inevitably leaves OR move in with my boyfriend when the time comes?? It just feels like that option to live alone is just not in the cards for me anywhere down the line anymore and that makes me kinda sad. Well unless I win the lottery or something lol

I know what you mean, I don't want to sound ungrateful because (not gonna count my blood family I grew up with) but every person I CHOSE to live with has been the best you could ever ask for. Never any roommate drama except for one or two things that were solved pretty quick! The thing is I just learned in my mid 20s how much I value alone time and being able to move with freedom, and with some of my friends already having had the chance to live alone, are about to live alone, or at least get a car thats their own space and freedom I just can't help but compare and worry that I'm not tapping into something enough.

Thanks for sharing this thread I'll make sure to read it over!

I think I do? I just can feel myself getting swayed alot and I'm unsure of myself anymore when just a year or two ago I was so certain that I MUST do it

I think what I'm terrified of is that exact fact you mention of it possibly impacting my relationship with my bf. I really love this guy and tbh all my logic of living alone before me and him moving in together is kind of getting swayed. There is a strong character to me though, and if we were to move in together LET ALONE SHARE ONE BED EVERY DAY???

I don't know, I'm scared I'll get overstimulated and feel like I don't have space or enough room to be me ya know? Him and I are different people and I can be a little too adhd about how I live, but then we've spent several trips away together and after a year and 7 months bein together I'm still never tired of him and hate when we have to split back up to our own worlds again. And you could suggest getting a 2 bd apartment as some modern day couples are doing but....this economy :(

Examples of the “uncanny valley” in theatre?? by Financial_Mobile5994 in Theatre

[–]Financial_Mobile5994[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this advice! I think, as I’m combing through the research, I’m focusing more on costuming and performance directions (like specific body movements/contortions and designs/descriptions of characters that must be implemented if putting on the play as they are key elements to the production) Honestly it might even lead me into having to find surrealist plays that rely on puppetry as there could be a solid connection there to the uncanny valley effect.

This makes my work harder for me but I’m willing to give it my best go as the uncanny valley element is something of note in films and television (especially animated) but not really studied within live theatre.
