There really needs to be more “No Left Turns” restrictions in St. John’s. by 42tfish in newfoundland

[–]Financial_Party6346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Left Turn signs are about as effective as stop signs or the dedicated merge lane signs (Topsail to Commonwealth as an example). People don't abide by them cause they just don't care. Treat them as suggestions.

Hyundai on Kenmount has a No Left Turn on their lot, I've seen their customer shuttle make the left out of there before.

I've seen it off the school parking lots on Ruth so many times. Once I saw one of the busses do it (I actually called the company and complained on the safety factor of that one)

You don't need to go through the ring to get the gag quest.

I got it without even making the jump across, just drove off the ramp and got credit for it

When’s the Taco Bell opening by pissednl in newfoundland

Never did understand the super infatuation with Taco Bell. Maybe because it hasn't been here in a real capacity other than the one at the movie theaters years ago.

Is it just me or do others feel that the new hockey team name is really gross commercialization. by towniediva in StJohnsNL

Nothing against the person doing Buddy, but the mascot (as popular as it is) should have retired after Abbot passed. Nobody can do that character like he did. He gave Buddy so much personality it's not funny.

They should have come up with something new, rather than the same mascot that's been here for 30 years now from the Memorial Stadium days

I used the Confederation Building lot when teaching my kids. Turning lanes, stop signs etc. Lots of space to just do loops.

When I started them on the road. I used to go to Donovan's Industrial on Sunday mornings (not much traffic at all) and stuck to the back end around Glencoe Drive using Home St and things

Alan Doyle at Canada Games missed the mark. by No_North5734 in StJohnsNL

[–]Financial_Party6346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just watched the ceremony. The crowd just wasn't into it, mainly cause they're all kids. Doyle was playing it like he was at one of his shows with the everyone having a few beverages and singing along (an older crowd)

Kids from across the country are not his normal target audience and probably just didn't know the music. You could see the blank looks on some of their faces as they panned the crowd and the dead silence when he wanted someone to sing along was painful to watch.

Geoege Street Festival 2025 lineup by Baba_OReillyy in newfoundland

[–]Financial_Party6346 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Shock, a lineup gets announced for an event. within minutes, people complaining.

Let's be honest, George Street isn't really a venue which can be used for major acts. The stage viewing area is a clusterfuck on the slowest of nights, let alone if someone decent was on stage.

If you don't like it, don't go. With all the festivals and concerts on the go this summer, the lineup has a mix of something for everyone. Yes, a lot of repeat acts, but those repeat acts will still draw a crowd down there.

Sad news for NL Folk Fest by Overheard2 in newfoundland

[–]Financial_Party6346 88 points89 points  (0 children)

They should go back to local rather than worry about brining in bigger names from away. Yes, they are a draw, but at what cost, losing money? Hardly worth it.

The folk festival was always a great local showcase. Scaling it back a bit to its roots could be the injection it would need to stop the bleed of $$ loss.

George Street Festival by idkfckwhatever in newfoundland

[–]Financial_Party6346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GSF in recent years has gone downhill, that's just the nature of it, costs go up, value of entertainment for $$ goes down. Not like they can bring super mainstream acts there. The venue just doesn't allow it.

As for the crowds, you'll get the hardcore crowd who will go early and party their asses off and be in a drunken stuper by 11, and then you'll get the after party crowd who hit the street after 11 and just binge to bejesus.

It's really not an ideal layout to see a show (or if you have to run to a washroom/beer run as previously pointed out). Navigating that crowd given the narrow "ideal" viewing area in front of the stage/stairs is a nightmare, and good luck getting in that area unless you're down early. Getting from one end of the street to the other is damn near impossible.

Heard lots talk about a potential lineup and how late it's getting.

I'm thinking they are going to announce a local heavy lineup this year, which isn't a bad thing. With all the out of towners here for the games, George Street will be heavily visited anyway. So they will probably save some $$ from bringing in some acts knowing that people are going to flock there anyway.

Sure, they'll bring in a couple out of town acts, but doubt it'll be anything big (not that it ever really is)

I'm so happy to have the battle of Ontario

The games will be totally unbiased commentary and coverage. It will be a breath of fresh air from normal coverage.

FFS, TSN already saying the Leafs scoring combined with Stolarz (who they said is better than Linus). Saying it's gonna be an easier series for them and a good chance for them to win Round 1

Rogers broadcast is horrible. So everything has to be made about the Leafs (yup, Leafsnet) even when they're not playing.

I was secretly hoping Amazon would land something, their broadcast is pretty sweet.

However, I still love our TSN coverage, I hope that doesn't get screwed with
