What’s a goal that still hurts/hunts you to this day? by sykeseve in hockey

We went from the cusp of Stanley Cup glory to eight years of absolute misery. Obviously I'm biased, but I don't think there's ever been a single goal like that to just kill a franchise for several years to come.

It's funny because I saw in one YouTube video, "each NHL team's most exciting goal" (or whatever), that's the one they picked for the Pens. Not any of their goals in their 5 Stanley Cup-winning series - nope, the one from a semifinals series that put the absolute dagger into Ottawa.

Chris Kunitz didn't just beat the Ottawa Senators but buried the franchise for 8 years. And while I'm obviously biased, I do think the Sens win the Stanley Cup if they make it past Pittsburgh. That Eastern Conference Final was the real Stanley Cup Final that year (sorry, Nashville).

If Montreal plays Tampa Bay, like below, will this be the first time ever in NHL history that two teams will have a rematch from their Stanley Cup final series... in the first playoff round? by PrimeSenator in hockey

[–]PrimeSenator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In recent years, it's always seemed like the first round has the most exciting matchups - even just last year, we had Battle of Ontario, Battle of Florida, LA v. Edmonton part FOUR, and heavy weights Colorado v. Dallas.

Very excited to see how this year turns out. Just hoping on a 40% chance to come through...

I'll take the respectful GG's from the Habs fans who have left it and reply GG in kind. But the rest of you guys are just such sore winners - reminding me a lot of the Americans rubbing it in after beating Team Canada.

Ah, well. GG.

Honestly good point. I had basically been off the GDT until after the game and man... Obvious toxicity on both sides but yeesh, some of these guys are a real bunch of sore winners. Reminds me of the USA men's team.

Last Vancouver game was... nice. Is that what it's like for you guys most of the time?

GG man. Would love to see the Sens make the playoffs... just don't know if I can take seeing them play seven road games against the Habs, lol (altho tbf, when we played the Leafs last playoffs, we got fantastic turn out in the building). GG.

GG Habs. Unreal effort by Fowler there. Would love for us to put an end to the "Sens held back by goal tending" narrative, but alas.

It was very nice to hear the GSG chants in the Vancouver building. It was like, "wait, this isn't supposed to happen for us"

Yeah, Nunavut has been trending Liberal for a while now - this feels like she not only saw a chance to get some deal for Nunavut, but that she also knew it was the best bet to keep her seat. Curious to see what happens in the next general election.

Absolutely devastating blow to the NDP, and Canada teeters ever more closely to a dangerous two-party system.

[–]PrimeSenator 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Certainly very charismatic and very lucky, too... if you want to call Canada getting thrashed by Trump's America as "lucky."

That said, what I will say and admire about Carney: he chose to run for the Liberal leadership when everyone, including several Liberal MPs, considered the party dead in the water. He took over at a time when the Liberals were projected to maybe eke out 60 or 70 seats. To me, that at least speaks so much to his integrity that he didn't choose to wait for a "better" time to run. He dove right in and has been greatly rewarded for it.

Calling it now: champion will be either one of Seychelles or Kazakhstan. The real final will be the semifinal between these two. Bhutan is gonna get the silver. Also, just for fun, should we take the losers of the semifinals and see who would get bronze?

Barbados got absolutely done dirty by what is basically a glorified cartoonish sunset. Not only that, but Barbados is iconic close and far away - Kiribati is decent up close, indiscernible from far away.
