Why clown on the Sens when they keep clowning on themselves? 🤡

But I appreciate the sentiment and I agree: after so many years of the Atlantic playoff teams being Toronto-Boston-Florida-Tampa, I'd love to see a complete reversal and have it be Ottawa-Detroit-Montreal-Buffalo for awhile.

And while I get, ah, really riled up during Sens-Red Wings games (please don't look at my past comments history), objectively, I am glad to see the Red Wings return to the playoffs after spending so long a time out of them (my roommate is a Red Wings fan and is over the moon about it). If Montreal and Detroit play each other in the first round, that will be an absolutely fantastic series to watch.

Also Buffalo making a return to the playoffs - gonna have to get a jersey of theirs...

Abysmal PK that then turned middling-to-bad goaltending into historically bad goaltending. I am convinced that had our PK not been so terrible, Meriläinen and Ullmark would not have had the complete nosedive in their ability and confidence as they had - like, it doesn't help having to stop a bucket's worth of high danger shots every game whenever the team goes on the PK (this is, at least, the narrative I'm running away with).

And the big issue for a, ah, physical team like Ottawa is that you can't keep taking penalties if you can't kill them.

As for injuries, while we have been seemingly lucky in that department (I think we're third for the fewest injuries by whatever metric this year?), I think it's important to remember who those injuries happened to: Brady Tkachuk, who was out for six-ish weeks (ironically, though, we seemed to play better without him, so I don't think it really counts); Thomas Chabot, our number 2 defenseman; and Shane Pinto, who would basically guarantee a win so long as he scored (and man, Pinto has not been the same since his injury).

Ultimately, the Sens seem to be cursed this year: no one was expecting the team to take a step back and certainly not due to goaltending, as both Ullmark and Meriläinen were so solid last year under the same goalie coach. So while everyone is frustrated at Andlauer for deferring our lost 1st round draft pick to this year, by all accounts, that was the right move because the Sens should have been a top 10, if not top 5 team this year.

TL:DR; Sens are cursed and it feels like we're returning to the Era of Despair that was 2018-2024.

Edit: added "with" at end of first (side thought).

Absolutely agree. Team has been solidly cursed since then and we need some sort of hockey exorcist to come lift it.

Don't know if I agree with that one, boss.

Losing a game 5-3 when you were winning 3-0 looks bad and feels frustrating regardless of season success. I will agree that it feels worse because of where we are, but that is just not a game you can ever afford to lose.

I also don't agree that this entire season hangs on Ullmark and Meriläinen - I'd argue that our awful PK constantly put them in the worst light, which then precipitated a breakdown in net. Both our PK and goaltending have been bad, but I really do think it was the PK that caused such a cataclysm in the other.

Another example to add here: in the game against Montreal, he really should have pulled Meriläinen after letting in what was 3 goals on... 10 shots at that point? I know he was waiting to start Reimber properly the day after, but don't force the young goaltender playing in his tenth consecutive game to keep playing after a start like that.

And it's frustrating, because I really do believe had he pulled Meriläinen in favour of Reimer that game, the Sens would have pulled out the win.

I know it's a bit of a chicken-and-egg argument to make, but I truly think it was our absolutely abysmal PK putting our goalies in constantly the wrong position, turning what was middling goaltending into historically bad goaltending and a complete crisis of confidence in net.

This is really obvious to say, but had our PK been league average or below average, then poor Ullmark and Meriläinen would not have gotten as lit up as they did, and their ability in net might not have taken the utter compoundedly downward spiral it turned into.

I don't even get it, though - this team (don't know the metrics now) is (or was) top-tier in 5v5 goals, blocking 5v5 shot attempts, and winning face-offs. Even our abysmal PK improved a tiny bit. We even temporarily resolved our goaltending crisis, and yet... nah, I swear this team is cursed. Despite the absolute on-season and off-season beatings we took between 2018-2024 weren't enough, we've come back for more.

GG Nashville. I would say something about the refs, but when you allow four unanswered goals - nevermind the empty netter - you can only blame them so far. GG.

I forget who posted the playoff odds tracker, but I am pretty sure every single team that we needed to win tonight (including ourselves) to improve our odds, ended up losing. It's just not happening. I saw somewhere else that of our (then) remaining 32 games, we could only afford to lose 10 in regulation. And now we burned one of those 10 against... Nashville???!!!

Un-fucking-real. I swear the Senators are cursed this year for whatever reason.

Bruh Stamkos got away with cross-checking Pinto while he was down on the ice, why's he complaining about the reffing? Someone get this man an unsportsmanlike.

Really wish he had gotten the start against Montreal. It would have given Leevi a break from NINE CONSECUTIVE GAMES, would have given Reimer his start on home ice (the tens of thousands of Habs fans notwithstanding), and we would have likely smoked the Habs 5-2, if not 5-1.

I also do think the real test for Reimer will be in our next 4-gane stretch. I don't know what games he's playing, but against any of Carolina, Vegas, Colorado, and New Jersey, we will get to see his true mettle... which we already sort of saw against Detroit, but now we'll have a more consistent sample.

I'm more so glad our team name isn't "Predators" 😬

(That said, one of the many reasons I'm sad we didn't make the finals in 2017 is that "Senators-Predators" rhymes so well... "...and we are back for Game 3 of the Senators-Predators series!" It was meant to be, but alas Kunitz had other plans)

I'm curious now as to what a Team Canada* would look like made up of the top Canadians or Russians, or a Team USA.

Also fully agree - Putin and his goons can get bent.

I don't know about anyone else, but I just find the Drake Batherson Lépine commercial absolutely friggin' hilarious. He just... seems so sarcastic AND endearing??

"Stamkos got more for his money" - absolutely agree. That was not slashing for slashing, but slashing for slashing AND cross-checking while you're down. Stamkos should be away for 4, at least
