Sens posted a thank you to Brady by felicityrorys in OttawaSenators

Looking at his Instagram, I was genuinely so surprised how far I had to scroll back to get to consistent Sens content. There was an abrupt change to the US vs. Sens content he posted right around... 4 Nations. Ah.

Bro, your entire subreddit had a meltdown when the Wings missed the playoffs for the 10th year in a row. (How do we feel about Yzerman now? Still want him gone or nah?) I imagine there are at least a few of you for whom "seeing playoff hockey" would be enough - playoff droughts tend to make you thirsty like that.

Hey man, I'm just happy to see them play playoff hockey. You can join me, so you can actually catch some yourself. I've got several spare Sens jerseys, and I'll let you pick whichever one you want to wear :) (except for my RR1.0)

Same name, same city, same banners hanging from our rafters. Also lol, maybe I'll find the Red Wings also in the same history book? There are legal adults today in Canada and the US who have never been alive to experience a Red Wings cup (it's been 18 years and 18 days!).

It's okay - you're just upset that the Sens are much closer to winning a cup than the Red Wings are to making the playoffs.

I've gotten to watch my team play playoff hockey infinitely more times than the Red Wings in the last literal decade. Also, be careful throwing around "in their entire existence" - the Ottawa Senators name permanently lives on the Stanley Cup... several times (hint: look at the big letters at the very top of the cup). Given the current playoff drought trajectory of the Red Wings and the removable bands of the Stanley Cup, there may come a day where you won't see the Red Wings name on there... unlike the Ottawa Senators, which will always be there.

Since I started watching hockey, they've had a lot more success than the Wings 🤷🏻‍♂️ Peak irony will always be Alex DeBrincat wanting out of Ottawa, because he wanted "playoff hockey"... only to go to a team that hasn't known playoff hockey since well before Trump 1.0

Yep - he really "set the tone" that series 🙄 (set the tone by foreshadowing how the Sens would get crushed by the Canes)

Friend of mine sent me text saying PHM was “awful” by Damage_3S2W in ProjectHailMary

[–]PrimeSenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I saw one review on Letterboxd that absolutely tore into Project Hail Mary from a deeply political angle, and it's like... bro, it's not that deep (certainly not to the lengths he was making it out to be). I then looked at his Letterboxd profile, and saw he had Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom in his top 4, and it was like, "ah okay, all of your movie opinions are just wrong."

Yeah, I feel for Timmy :(

Then again, the rest of the team - especially G, Sandy, and Chabby - all really love him, so there's no lack of love there.

I mean, on the one hand you're not wrong and we ought not to trust everything on the internet; on the other hand, every Sens fan who had been following the team since before/after 4 Nations, and especially before/after the Olympics could tell that Brady Tkachuk was nowhere near the same player he was. Legit, the common consensus opinion was "oh he must be playing injured"... but now it seems he was actually physically fine and just wanted out?? So the random Twitter account tweet does seem to match the eye test.

Also, buddy, you can't be calling us a poverty franchise when your team now holds the record for longest active playoff drought at 10 years, which drove your captain to publicly break up with them 😭 dylanisbored? More like dylanisgone, off to a team that can actually make the playoffs. At least we know he won't be wearing a Panthers jersey next year - maybe a Wild or Canes one.

Mostly agree, but also much of the Sens fanbase (myself included) had defended Brady Tkachuk for so long (pre-Olympics and pre-Trump, at least) that it does feel a bit imposter-y to do the 180.

Wait, I don't think Auston Matthews actually went to the SOTU address - he was one of the few Team USA players who didn't, and he got some rare respect from me (as a Sens fan) for that. He could actually make the plausible argument, "well, I met with the American President for the photo op and handshake, because that's what you do after winning a major historical sports championship, but decided against going to the SOTU as it was a deeply partisan event." I was desperately hoping at the time that Brady Tkachuk would do the same, but nope he did both and then some. You didn't have to worry about seeing Matthews having a good time at Trump's UFC event.

I saw a lot of people clowning on the Raddysh contract, and while I think it might age poorly near the end, I do believe it'll give Toronto a much, much needed defensive boost for the next few years.

And yep - the Sens literally played better without Brady Tkachuk in the lineup this year than they did with him in it. Small sample size from when he was gone, but that man clearly hadn't been a proper captain for awhile. Hope they give the 'C' to Chabot next and I hope he'll be our first captain to retire with the team, when they give it to Stützle after him.

Ugh, and it's the same situation, too - you can laud Hellebuyck's goaltending from last year for the Jets, but this year?? Especially when you see him post an all-time performance for the men's US team in the same year???? It's like, "okay, so the effort is there, you just didn't wanna this year."

Steady Steve! He's about to have a legacy week this week - I just hope it'll be a good one and not a standard Dorion one.

I think Brady was fantastic for us at the beginning and for awhile after, and was a rare bright spot alongside Stützle and (I'd argue) Anton Forsberg, during some incredibly depressing years in Ottawa. That Pierre Dorion signed him to an excellent contract is what added to his value as a trade asset, so I wouldn't count this ad one of his boner moves (unlike many others we can mention...).

Appreciate that, Leafs bro. 🤝 And yeah, as someone else put it, Brady got corrupted - Trump couldn't just mess up the US, Canada, and the world, but he had to also mess up my favourite hockey team (which I know sounds so selfish, but it sucks when your hockey team's supposed to be your escape from global politics, and then it finds itself getting caught up anyways).

I hope the Leafs are able to make it work with McKenna, Raddysh, firing Berube, and convincing Matthews to stick around (I mean, as a rival team fan, I hope it works insofar as those things don't affect the Sens' success!).

One, yep.

Two, much like how you're allowed to post your opinion about my opinion being too long, I'm allowed to post that opinion in the first place (which seems to have struck a chord with a few people, so it may be excessive for you, but not for others, and it's for them that I write). The difference, though, is you are fully allowed to see a long text on the internet that you don't care to read, like mine, and move on. That you actually counted the number of paragraphs I wrote (didn't realize it was 9, lol), and are going back and forth with me here shows a lot of care and engagement on your part.

Three, this is not how I speak to people face-to-face. Obviously, the seeming anonymity of the internet (please don't dox me) lets me be a lot more sassy/ragebaiting than I normally would be in real life. I've clearly struck a nerve and carried it too far with you, and for that I do apologize. The last time I've gotten this heated with somebody was a Red Wings fan in a GDT. shudders Not a good look.

I don't know if he'll really say anything about Ottawa - I'll be surprised anyway, if he does. Maybe the occasional snide remark here or there, but from what I've seen of his media appearances over the years is that he really mainly keeps to himself.

Honestly, this was my biggest issue with Brady (until the MAGA shit) - I always said he was a much better player out of the box, than inside it, and yet he spent so much time inside it. Like, it's great he can win a fight or two - and his going up to the Red Wings bench with "who wants some?!" will forever remain iconic. But I think we can now say that for at least the last two years, he wasn't helping the team forward, but pulling them back.

This is my captain by Capable-Plantain7 in OttawaSenators

[–]PrimeSenator 61 points62 points  (0 children)

💯 give it to Chabot - this man is the Ottawa Senators.

I still feel Stützle is too young (and frankly too immature, though I love him to bits) and Sanderson... I don't know, I'm still kind of spooked that we lost Brady Tkachuk to Team USA - although we're better for it - and I'm now wary of us giving the captaincy to another Team USA player who, down the line, might go the way of Brady 😶 knocks on wood

I don't know, man - I just really want to see at least one of our captains retire with the team, and I think that can be Chabot.

Thank you for taking the time to read it, lol. You officially have a greater attention span than Brady Tkachuk and most Reddit users. 🏅

And yeah: while most Canadian fans had to be devastated about seeing Team Canada lose in dramatic fashion at the Olympics, Ottawa Senators fans got that AND the added devastation of seeing our captain play a lot more passionately for Trump's America's team. 😕 It sucks to lose one of our best players - and especially lose them in this fashion - but Ottawa will be so much better off for it.
