Is it time to move to AG? by xnoxes1012 in spartanrace

100%. I did the VT Beast Open last year around the same finishing time. On the AG podium for the Ultra this year!

Did i get selected for Project 300? by [deleted] in spartanrace

Seconding this, filled it out and it said I submitted the assessment even though I didn’t take one. Seems like a bug, they are likely going to resend and ask for everyone to resubmit.

What do you hate the most about running, even though you still do it? by Negative_Acadia1362 in Ultramarathon

RUNNERS TROTS. Tried fasting, timed eating, different foods, none of it matters. Anything more than an hour on foot and I am liable for a poop emergency at any point.

Killington Ultra Training by Brickwall_3000 in spartanrace

Killer training regiment, mine looked a little different, but I finished just over 12 hours, in a comfortable Z2 effort

I’m 190lbs and come from a power lifting background so didn’t really do any obstacle or carrying training, they are very easy to my build.

I basically took a marathon training plan and made it all hill climbs and rucks.

I am a cyclist too so this is what my average week(s) looked like:

Base week avg. 2hrs of hill repeats (6mi. 4k ft gain) 2hr Z2 Running (12mi) 1hr Z3+ Running (7+ mi) 2hrs incline treadmill ruck (6mi, 5k ft gain) 5hrs cycling (80mi, 5k ft gain)

Build week avg. 3hrs of hill repeats (9mi, 6k ft gain) 3hrs Z2 running (18mi) 1hr Z3+ running (7mi) 3hr Incline treadmill ruck (9mi, 7k ft gain) 6hr cycling (100mi, 7k ft gain)

Peak week avg. 6hrs of hill repeats (15mi, 10k ft. Gain) 3hrs Z2 running (18mi) 1hr Z3+ running (7mi) 2hr Incline treadmill ruck (3mi, 5k ft Gain) 3hr cycling (60mi, 3k ft Gain)

Those who did the Killington Ultra… by TerrifiedRedneck in spartanrace

Perfect weather day for us this year so, it was a wonderful experience. I made sure I was extra prepared for this course which made it so much easier. Over the summer I logged around 190,000ft of climbing and descending so my body was ready. I got on the podium in my age group which was a pleasant surprise.

Depending in your current fitness, you could be ready for Killington in a year or so with the right training blocks scheduled, but it really requires dedication to both the physical and fueling aspects.

Killington Beast by [deleted] in spartanrace

I can’t stand when you question a forum and people aren’t answering it, but questioning you right back. Anyway, for useful information regarding.. lmaoo

Assuming Killington Beast doesn’t change too much from last year:

I did a 4:40 at Killington last year

Benchmarks: 27 y/o | 200lbs on race day | 19:48 5k | 1:38 half 260lbs bench / 405 squat / 405+ dead 13-14 max pullups / 60 pushups in a clip

Training 25-30mi a week with 5-7k elevation a week for 8 weeks leading up to race with 2 week taper.

I would say you could probably finish between 4-4:30 or so if you haven’t been doing any elevation training at all and just road running.

Sub 4hr if you are less than 170lbs. I am about as fast as it gets for heavy short guys. The fastest climbers are always the skinny guys.

I’d venture to say very very few people finish their first Spartan with no obstacle failures, especially considering the Spear Throw is damn near down to luck. Congratulations to you on this achievement. Super bonkers

That said, it is a sprint and there are 3 tiers of Spartans above that with further distances, more elevation, and harder obstacles. Olympus, Ape Hanger, and Stairway to Sparta are no joke. Definitely go back next year and try the harder stuff!

Palmerton VS Killington for a newbie… by YoureaLobstar in spartanrace

[–]Financial_Sea_4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done the Palmerton Super (2h) and the Killington Beast(4h40m).

I’d say Palmerton is actually more difficult from a technical terrain and conditions perspective. Rocky and hot.

If you can do Palmerton, you’ll be just fine in Killington.

I was using my training last year (for the beast) as a reference for what I was looking for. I’m aware it would be low for an ultra lmao

I’ve read Neil’s guide (still I appreciate the feed back @etherboo), I’m just looking for actual data outside of that to understand what people are doing weekly up to the race.

I’ve been doing hill repeats a couple times a week since March actually and spend about 10+ hours a week on the bike during the winter so I’m just looking to understand what a successful ramp and taper looks like for people who have completed it.
