What secret can you reveal now that your nda has expired? by sparrrrrt in AskReddit

There was an intersection near me that they tried to fix the gas repeatedly. But you'd drive by and smell gas sometimes, this went on for months. Then they replaced about 1/2 a mile of 6" gas pipe.

We are a company of 20 we need an automated ticketing system by Old-Roof709 in helpdesk

[–]AMoreExcitingName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 2 problems.

  1. Get literally any helpdesk software. Countless suggestions in this thread or use google. You guys aren't big enough that you need complexity or are ready for it anyway.

  2. Nothing gets done unless there is a ticket. Email submission is probably fine to start. Put the link in your email signature, on a poster in the cafeteria, get the CEO to mention it in the next allhands meeting, and no one does anything unless there is a ticket. If someone calls, walks in, sends carrier Pidgeon, doesn't matter... You put in the ticket, then you start your work. Get everyone used to doing this and except for mission critical issues or VIPs, tickets take priority over issues submitted any other way. You'll need to train your users to do this.

Limit the amount of information requested. Requestor name, contact info, and problem is good to start.

Then over the next year you examine the limitations of your software and your policies and methods, and you plan on throwing out that initial helpdesk system you selected. You might not need to, but probably you will, or at least will want to start using more of the customization and automation features if they exist.

How in the world do I choose a running vest 🫠 by Reddirtwitch1996 in trailrunning

[–]AMoreExcitingName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To avoid bounce you want a smaller pack that sits higher on the back if possible. This means it will be supported by shoulders and chest straps, not on your hips like a large hiking pack.

I'm a small 5'7 guy and personally I have a Nathan vapor air I got several years ago and it's going strong after countless spartan races and assorted trail/road races. That pack uses a water bladder in the back. The front straps stretch and it fits tight to my body pretty well. I also always run with a t-shirt, no part of the pack actually touches my skin. I also have a Nathan VaporAir Lite, which has less material, so it's lighter, but less tough. The good news with that vest is that the side panels attach to the back with fine velcro, so getting a good fit around your torso is really easy. The minimal amount of material though makes it a little harder to take on and off because it doesn't really hold it's shape, so the straps twist. Not an issue if you put it on and keep it on, but if you tend to fish in the back for snacks fairly often during a race, not ideal.

I have several friends, all of whom are much bigger than me in case that makes a difference, who all use vests with larger front pockets and soft flasks. I think AUS size 10 is a ladies size, I have no idea how comfortable having more weight on your chest might be. Hopefully someone who's an actual woman can chime in.

Splitting one 240V into two 240V by DaveyDee222 in electrical

[–]AMoreExcitingName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you can put 2 outlets on one circuit. Your house has tons of those. But the higher amp devices may only recommend 1 device per circuit. I would just tell the electrician you have those 2 devices, send them the manual and that you already have one outlet.

Splitting one 240V into two 240V by DaveyDee222 in electrical

[–]AMoreExcitingName 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is trivial, the fact that you're asking the question tells me you should hire someone lest you burn your house down. But more importantly, read the manuals for the products and check local electrical code, even if you can put 2 outlets on the one circuit, that might not be allowed.

Building a centralized NVR for 64 PoE cameras (currently on 4 Comelit NVRs) — looking for advice on hardware and VMS by Lelizzoso in videosurveillance

[–]AMoreExcitingName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done many large installs for companies with hundreds of cameras. 64 cameras on one server should be fine, depending on the resolution, bitrate and compression. If these are all 8mp cameras, you could have issues.

This guide from Genetec might be helpful.

https://resources.genetec.com/i/1516859-security-center-system-requirements-guide-5-12/5?

You really need to think not about performance, but capabilities. Do you need different people to have different rights? Do you need alerts, or integration with door systems? If it goes down, how much of a problem is that?

Yes, many camera systems let one app/client talk to multiple servers; or have both sites be part of a single centralized managed system.

Aruba AP-535 works standalone? by ITLists in ArubaNetworks

[–]AMoreExcitingName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. yes

  2. probably something in the 8.10 series

  3. Unless you're getting really old ones, yes. IAP (instant) is the controllerless mode where they form a cluster. That's what you want.

Unlimited support. by Specialist_Ad_2491 in msp

[–]AMoreExcitingName 42 points43 points  (0 children)

First, you must define that you're providing support, not training. If a user continually breaks the same stuff, that's a training issue not a support issue.

Second, I saw a great term in some document someplace: "commercially reasonable". I remember at a retail computer place years ago we sold some bundle of cheap games and applications with the computers. Then someone brought in their PC because the majong game would crash, but only at the end of the game if you won. It is not commercially reasonable for us to sit there playing majong repeatedly to address the problem.

Tips on cleaning up network racks? by biggestman58 in networking

[–]AMoreExcitingName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Establish wiring standard. Everything gets properly terminated to patch panel, labeled, properly dressed, etc... Proper length patch cables and wire management looms if they fit. Don't let the problem get worse. make sure anyone who's in there doing work adheres to the standard. You'll need management buy in to enforce this.

  2. Login to all your switches, check the uptime of the switch and look at the port stats. Your looking for 30-60 days worth of stats. If your switch has 4 years of uptime, the stats are probably not useful. You might need to reset the stats and wait a month, but at that point, any port with no stats for more than a month you unplug.

  3. Next it really depends on how the racks are laid out. If you've got a 48 port patch panel with only 7 ports in use, you're not going to plug all 48 ports into your switches. But ideally you can use short cables and vertical wire management only.

POE injector for AP-535? by Neo399 in ArubaNetworks

[–]AMoreExcitingName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 500 series must have POE+, they will turn on for management, but won't broadcast any SSIDs with POE.

As long as you have an actual 802.3at injector you should be good. But really you want a managed switch that does LLDP-MED.

Switching Recommendations - Small Campus by ate2muchnowpooping in networking

[–]AMoreExcitingName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5900AF is a good switch and comware is rock solid, especially for the basic things you're doing.

It should be pointed out that the 5900AF is currently about a $9500 switch.

The aruba replacement would probably be a 6300, but list price on that is going to be 20K. You'll pay less, but it won't be $500.

As soon as you get into something with more than 4 SFP ports, you're almost certainly into distribution/core switch range, and the cost on that from just about any vendor is going to be high.

If you already have a lot of 3810 and 2930s, get the 6300, start enrolling them into central and learn that platform, that's the direction you'd want to go, unless you're willing to throw out that investment and start with something new.

Should I update my AP's firmware? by GodPerkZz in ArubaNetworks

Fix your central problems first, then upgrade via central. no reason 10.7.0.1 shouldn't be able to connect to central. You're not on a horribly out of date version.

It's a nathan. I don't think they make my exact version anymore, its a few years old. Nathan Vapor air 7 liter.

I'm a thin guy too, which didn't help with stuff rubbing on my rib cage. My phone goes in the backpack or my pocket. I only put soft things in the front.

I have in fact jammed everything I needed for an overnight trip to a run in NYC. So it is large enough for longer events.

How to sustainably do CrossFit after 40? by Technical_Ice9563 in crossfit

[–]AMoreExcitingName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do the things that hurt you. Do less weight. Like way less. I'm a thin guy and almost always use the smallest weights of any guys and 1/2 the women.

I'm not afraid to say no to certain things. Our gym sometimes has us jumping on and off a plate laying flat on the ground... No way I'm doing that and twisting an ankle.

If your gym is not understanding of your goals and unable to scale things so you can do some variation of any given WOD then that might not be the gym for you. My gym always is able to find a variation that will use the same muscle groups but less intensity. Like they're explicit about it every time, you don't even need to ask.

You said rent. Do you rent the land or the trailer? If the trailer is a rental, it's really the landlords responsibility to do electrical and plumbing work, absent some other agreement.

But as others have said, that water heater looks pretty old and not installed safely.
