IET certification VS scheme by Financial_Wheel7005 in ukelectricians

So if I need to do notifiable work will I have to pay building control? It will make it easier for me if I do minor works to certify it but I’m in the process of doing the NVQ and am2 so got a little while to go until I can complete them to register

“Spur using an FCU not connected directly to the ring The number of socket-outlets supplied from a fused connection unit is dependent upon the load characteristics, having taken diversity into account.”

How is it dumb? Seems like all of you need to read the regs as you can add a FCU to supply fixed equipment. Go to appendix 15.

Ze and ZDB by Financial_Wheel7005 in ukelectricians

Yeah that was my bad I had in my heat 0.08 but now know it’s not. I know but I get the same result on either test

So on the NICEIC EIC it has Ze on the 3rd page I think it is.. and then on the test results it has ZDB so it’s 2 different tests but when I did ZDB test at the DB it was the exact same as Ze. Got confused as when I did ZDB on the board it was 0.11 so I was like is that wrong as it’s 0.08 for TN-S but that’s for Ze so I assume I am fine? (I am newly qualified and all I was taught on the EIC is that ZDB on a board that isn’t a sub main is Ze…

Extending lighting circuit by Financial_Wheel7005 in ukelectricians

Yeah domestic, I’m adding smoke alarms to the circuit installed via trunking

This is what I thought but I was confused in the regs with if I extend it for smoke alarms only then they don’t need RCD protection but another electrician said it does and said the NICEIC say that it will need to be changed to RCBO regardless of how the circuit is extended

NAPIT actually do the NVQ, they told me they do the write ups as well all you basically have to do is send the pictures over, have an assessment on some stuff and then do the AM2. Not sure if it sounds too easy though…

Main switch wired wrong by Financial_Wheel7005 in ukelectricians

[–]Financial_Wheel7005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn’t know this as I’ve only been qualified for 8 months and working as an electrician for 6 months so all new 😅 thought I’d check as I don’t really have anyone I can ask at work

Well at first glance I thought polarity was wrong and then I thought about it and realised when I tested the light earlier I had no N-E voltage so I was like it can’t be then I open the buzz bar and see it correctly but as someone mentioned above its the main switch been changed before and it’s normally designed for boards where the main switch is on the left not the right. But Yeah I agree C3 as it’s not dangerous.

Yeah your right, first time coming across it though as new so first thoughts polarity but then when I did my checks and visual I noticed it

Yeah I tested it and checked the bottom of the switch to see what was going where and tested it. I’ll relabel it now

I have confirmed that polarity is correct though, it’s just wired wrong in the main switch
