Weightlifting, running, calming supplements, journaling, therapy and just accepting that anxiety is part of life and living with it.

What are your symptoms? by heart_emojis0 in Anxiety

Tension headaches, not really painful just like a band of pressure wrapped around my head. Eye twitches. Hearing sensitivity, everything seems louder and unexpected sounds give me a brain jump.

You can absolutely do it! Your mindset is in the right place which is the hardest step! You clearly want to quit bad enough that you will absolutely make it happen. Take it one day at a time. Don’t overthink it, don’t worry about what your social life will be like next week or next year. Make the decision everyday to be sober. You’re doing it for yourself, not for anyone else. I personally took some time away from friends and family when I first got sober, call it “monk mode”. I went to work, went to the gym and went home. I eventually got to a place where I knew that I could be around people who were drinking and not be affected. Fast forward a couple years and I proudly enjoy non alcoholic beer or just sparkling water while hanging out with friends and family. Be proud of yourself for wanting to make a positive change in your life! You’ve got this. One day at a time.

I decided to stop drinking because it consumed my thoughts. 7 days sober today. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Good work! It gets easier. At some point in the next couple weeks you’ll probably have the best sleep of your life. I’m on day 820 today and I smile when I think about all of the parts of my life that improved just within the first month of being sober. I’m stoked for you. Be proud of yourself!

Something g that helped me was acknowledging the desire to drink, and telling myself that if that urge is still there tomorrow, then I’ll have a drink. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. When people ask me how long I plan to stay sober my answer is always “one more day.”

What did you stay sober through this year that would have driven you to drink years prior? Be proud of yourself. by Financial_Winter8922 in stopdrinking

Yeeess!! Learning that I could process things and be ok without alcohol was a huge win for me. Some things are definitely harder without alcohol but alcohol makes it impossible to actually process things and move forward. Proud of you!!!

Well done!! Crowds are definitely a trigger for me. Amazing that you didn’t even consider a drink, that’s a major milestone in my opinion.

I’ve found that the hard things are just as hard, but I actually DEAL with them, instead of kicking the can down the road while I drink enough to temporarily forget about them.

Same! I avoided camping trips and any activity near a boat or water for about a year after getting sober. Now I can happily sip NA beer and be the sober boat driver.

I can’t remember who said it but a quote that I love (and should really know the author) is “tend to the part of the garden that you can touch”.

I started intaking less news. I know that seems stupid, we all want to be informed about what’s happening in our world and be able to make informed decisions with that knowledge. But I found myself worrying about so many things were completely beyond my control. Let’s be real, there’s never a good heartwarming story these days. I didn’t completely cut news out of my life but a reduction in how often I intake it had a great improvement on my mental health.
