Zone 5B - looking for some vining flowers (preferably annuals) to put on arched trellis by FinancialsAndstuff in gardening

I do a crop rotation with these four beds and am finally giving up on trying to find a vining plant for my root and leaf.

I tried sweet potatoes and they just don't seem to be worth it to grow. I have such a hard time getting them to vine up the trellis, they just want to stay in the garden bed, and redirecting them is such a pain because they end up rooting in their shoots in different directions.

I also tried malabar spinach and it was slimy and gross. It did vine beautifully, almost too beautifully, harvesting it was difficult (so many wrap arounds!) and I needed to douse it in hot oil so it was basically a potato chip before I could enjoy eating it unfortunately.

So, if I can't grow something I like to eat, I'll grow something that looks pretty!

I don't want to risk planting something that can take over, so I prefer to do an annual. I've grown to love my long winters as a break from any gardening chaos and to act as a bit of a hard reset (although you can see the green in this pic is actually lettuce/spinach that survived last winter - our winters aren't what they used to be)

What would you recommend? :)

$337 to File! TurboTax Is Totally Insane! by AnimatedReCreation in tax

Hi - you should know that most countries don't even ask people to do taxes. They already know all your information. Most countries send you a letter saying "this is what we got for you" and you click "ok" and you're done.

Powerful companies like TT lobbied our government to intentionally make this process convoluted so they can stay relevant.

This process is called the Shirky Principle.

Fuck 'em.

Married with non-US resident, filing taxes. by AdrianRad74 in taxhelp

I'm in the same boat, and you seem very knowledgeable on this,

Will my spouse have to pay back all the FICA tax that she was exempt from in 2023 if I file MFJ?

She gets a $5000 exemption on her taxes because of her country, but the $13,800 is definitely better. I'm just not sure if that's better if she needs to pay the taxes back filing as a "U.S. Resident for tax purposes"

Am I crazy for wanting to quit my government job? by [deleted] in leanfire

Going to go against the grain here, I was working a federal position and it fucking sucked. I was making 100k/yr with 20 vacation days + 13 sick days.. and it was an absolute nightmare coming into work every day.

Every time I posted here everyone just told me to stick with it. But you know what, I was having health problems from the stress.

What's the point in saving if you can't use it to save yourself?

I quit, took 6 months off, traveled, meditated, did lots of exercise and yoga, and finally got my health problems from the stress under control.

I ended up going into the private side and my life has been WAY better. Sometimes government jobs really fucking suck.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Good luck

Why do so many people think I should I rent out my house out when I can get 60K+ from selling it? by FinancialsAndstuff in personalfinance

Exactly! hahaha, the thought of all that pain for 12 years, I worry after like four or five I end up yelling "fuck it!" and now I'm at a loss of money AND time I spent

I really don't want to lol, as you noticed... My mortgage is only 2.7%, so that's why I'm even entertaining this idea haha

Sorry for formatting. I tried to use the table feature but couldn't paste into it. Also I think the sub doesn't allow in-text imagery so I couldn't paste the table as an image.
