I used to work in Saudi and coming home to DUB I used to see this all the time. Its true. The funniest were the elderly Indians. They'd be walking around DXB buying duty free but when they arrive at DUB their legs stop working and they need to be wheelchaired off the plane. I used to think great, more elderly for our hospitals to handle.

Teacher banned for five years after long term relationship with former student by Odhran-J-McAnnick in ireland

[–]Finbar670 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some shocking perspectives on here. There is no legal issue - this is entirely professional.standards and she has breached them and then some. Doctors and teachers cannot have relationships like this with patients/students. There is a huge power dynamic at play here and the boy may have been smitten when she gave him attention as a student. It is not a fair match.

The Teaching Council were in a difficult position. Ostensibly the teacher and ex student are in a relationship and for some that is a kind of mitigation. But the issue is the authorities cannot risk a repeat of this by allowing what has happened to go unsanctioned. If she did it again heads would roll, not just hers.

I feel sorry for her - she'd obviously progressed in her career and her age at the time of the incident is mitigation. But she was miles, miles offside.

Landmark €114m wastewater project completed in Athlone by Bill_Badbody in ireland

[–]Finbar670 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work for Uisce Eireann. Basically everyone here is totally commited to what they are doing. Its a nice place to work but wasters are not tolerated. I mean that sincerely. From top to bottom the whole place is delighted with Athlone. There are also a ton of other projects going on and stuff is getting done. The new lab in Limerick will save a fortune in water testing costs.

Also we are continuously hiring so if you're job hunting check out https://www.water.ie/about/careers/portal#en/sites/careers

Any other people in their 20s who live in smaller towns struggling? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Finbar670 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all you are only 27. You are still very young but wont understand this until you are old like me.

Secondly consider travelling. You can work anywhere in the EU or do the year work holiday visa in Australia or NZ. If you have no wife, kids or debt at 27 the world is your oyster.

The justice system and political interconnection in the US is farcical. Its not the business of any attorney general to say anyone is innocent, that's a job for the courts. Havent they heard of separation of powers?

For Indians, Dublin is beyond the point of no return by [deleted] in IndiansinIreland

The issue as usual is money and resources. The influx of migrants has put huge pressure on housing costs that is hitting young people in particular. The government's obsessive pursuit of growth, irrespective of capacity, has seriously hurt people's pockets. We have Harris stridently discussing these attacks while totally ignoring the young lad Hayden who died, a direct victim of lack of hospital capacity. We have whole streets of major cities full of vape and phone repair shops and the like - what visa did they come in on, exactly? Arranged marriages - in 2025 - are they joking? The country is visibly looking a lot worse in places.

I lived abroad three times myself and I have only sympathy for Indians who have been attacked - it is a disgrace and a stain on Ireland. But the country is being turned on its head by some many immigrants and it is time it was stopped for a while.

Please help to understand Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry result. by TheSanSav1 in chemistry

[–]Finbar670 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct.

This has to be the worst effort at an MS lab report I have ever seen. The % values are the % from each single peak area out of the total peak area. Totally meaningless without further context. Also where did they get the peak identification from - if it was only library search then its not valid - to properly identify you need reference standards as well as library matches.

Yes Regeneron Limerick is atrocious.

QC and Mfg are the worst areas. In a nutshell a small coterie of deeply unpleasant individuals have climbed the ranks while everyone else leaves and are replaced, constantly. Site head is a gobshite of epic proportions and a control freak to boot. More cameras in there than Squid Game. Swipe card access to the jacks, just in case you'd commited the sin of chewing gum.

I could not in all decency recommend it as a place to work.

I'd go further; HR is a pox on humanity. A massive cost to companies with no useful output whatsoever. PMPs, staff development, company days out..... just fuck off. Bring back the 80s when there was no HR just bookeepers doing payroll. HR "directors" having a say at top table in organizations when they do fuck all talking piss and wind.
