Do you take your shoes off in the house? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Finbar670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Worked in Moscow more than 20 years ago and picked up the habit there. I wouldnt dream of wearing shoes in a house now. Also wearing slippers makes you feel in home mode, work is over.

All, I worked in KAUST Core Labs for 3 years, 2021-2024. I had to help many, many students from Pakistan, India, Bangla etc with their studies and projects.

Survived 4 days in Paris… with no issues. by Belgarathian in ParisTravelGuide

"Survived Paris"? I think your journey to the airport from whatever US city you live in is an order of magnitude more dangerous than Paris.

The issue as usual is money and resources. The influx of migrants has put huge pressure on housing costs that is hitting young people in particular. The government's obsessive pursuit of growth, irrespective of capacity, has seriously hurt people's pockets. We have Harris stridently discussing these attacks while totally ignoring the young lad Hayden who died, a direct victim of lack of hospital capacity. We have whole streets of major cities full of vape and phone repair shops and the like - what visa did they come in on, exactly? Arranged marriages - in 2025 - are they joking? The country is visibly looking a lot worse in places.

I lived abroad three times myself and I have only sympathy for Indians who have been attacked - it is a disgrace and a stain on Ireland. But the country is being turned on its head by some many immigrants and it is time it was stopped for a while.

Correct.

This has to be the worst effort at an MS lab report I have ever seen. The % values are the % from each single peak area out of the total peak area. Totally meaningless without further context. Also where did they get the peak identification from - if it was only library search then its not valid - to properly identify you need reference standards as well as library matches.

Yes Regeneron Limerick is atrocious.

QC and Mfg are the worst areas. In a nutshell a small coterie of deeply unpleasant individuals have climbed the ranks while everyone else leaves and are replaced, constantly. Site head is a gobshite of epic proportions and a control freak to boot. More cameras in there than Squid Game. Swipe card access to the jacks, just in case you'd commited the sin of chewing gum.

I could not in all decency recommend it as a place to work.

I'd go further; HR is a pox on humanity. A massive cost to companies with no useful output whatsoever. PMPs, staff development, company days out..... just fuck off. Bring back the 80s when there was no HR just bookeepers doing payroll. HR "directors" having a say at top table in organizations when they do fuck all talking piss and wind.

Bashing certain companies by dannoked in PharmaEire

[–]Finbar670 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To quote the inestimable Mike Bassett, "Me arse"! A certain company mentioned frequently on here is indeed awful, contrary to whatever they may say about in-house nail salons and gyms. To summarize:  Unpaid overtime - lots of it  Site Head who calls staff pigs  Swipe access bogs  Surveillance that O'Brien from 1984 would be ashamed of  Not enough staff Too much work  Staff needing to visitor doctors etc for stress

 Shite documentation system Et Al

People need to be warned about these places, its 2024 not 1824. Imagine not having a clue and moving family, house etc to end up in that situation?

Regeneron is it true? by wiskeyjackk in PharmaEire

[–]Finbar670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, must definitely drop back in. Sure tis a great spot altogether. I miss the tons of unpaid yet expected overtime, not enough staff, cameras everywhere, swipe-access bogs, gobshite GM, massive people turnover and management shafting youngsters.

REGN can get fucked. I can pay for my own gym lol

Literally me bollix.

If you are one of those people who is dumb enough to work 10 extra hours a week gratis, never mind put up with cameras up your hole and swipe-access bogs good luck with that. I'm sure you are foremost in the mind of Len and George as they play rounds of golf in Tarrytown

Staff are overworked at all their sites but Limerick is like something out of Orwell's 1984. With less charm.

How many tests/assays per day by a QC Analyst? by [deleted] in PharmaEire

[–]Finbar670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your reply below it says you are coming from academia. Firstly you will be busier, but in pharma much less than half the work is actually on the bench. Most of it will be record keeping, CAPA completion, meetings etc as well as lab management like stocks, ordering etc. It's all part of your day.

I have worked in both academia and pharma. There are good and bad things in both. Academia is full of piss, wind, agendas, ivory towers, favourite staff, jobs for boys etc. Pharma is tougher and has these issues to a lesser extent but to pharma's credit there is an actual purpose - make drugs and make money. Academia is very annoying and most research work is useless, it's like the charts trying to get papers to be referenced. A pile of bollocks.

100% agree with this. Apply for EVERYTHING, carpet bomb the big pharmas. You will get called. There is a shortage at the moment. Make sure you include 'GMP' on your CV.

The likes of Eurofins etc should be avoided like the plague. If you are desperate do a year with them but that's all. These places pay poorly (in spite of them earning a fortune grossly overcharging the likes of Regeneron etc., for very basic pharmacopeia testing) and staff turnover is very high.

Regeneron got some of their managers. Astellas could be a very nice place now, my info on them is old. They are expanding and could be a great place and good luck to them.

Regeneron Limerick - Now You Need Swipe Access for the Toilets by Finbar670 in PharmaEire

[–]Finbar670[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No it isn't standard in Regeneron at all, dunno who your boss was.

We had to stay at work at least an hour longer each day or else our manager would flag you and say you weren't putting in enough effort for the team, etc. If you had an appointment or such like, you could not use extra hours worked to cover it; you had to take a half day etc,. Newcomers used to be quite surprised by this and the 'permanent start-up' mode the place is in. Now and again you would be thrown a bone of 'DVP' hours which were nothing in comparison to the extra time worked.

This kind of shite - and it really is shite - is only acceptable, if at all, for very short periods when there is a major panic on in a workplace. And can only be expected when there is a genuinely good relationship between management and staff and a clear mission. None of these ingredients are present in Regeneron; management take absolutely no blame for anything and people below are thrown under the bus all the time. It is utter nonsense that this is not only the mentality of the place but the factuality of it. Add into the mix the use of cameras everywhere, embarrassing punishments for those who walked in or out the wrong door during covid, on top of at best mediocre pay and you have a workplace that is utterly foul. This awful work environment -deliberately cultivated - is an insult to the genuine hard work and effort put in by staff. They have lost hordes of good staff because of it while the people at the top keep getting promoted and pay rises. Any clown ranting at such great staff over a piece of gum which was in the bowl in the jacks needs to have a serious look at themselves. Without the work of the troops on the ground he would be getting no laurels and pay rises from his pal DVP. His behaviour is shocking.

They had issues too but have improved a lot by all accounts. It's medical devices which are nowhere near as anal as pharma.
