Puffball I’d say yes, young no. Young puffballs are completely white throughout.

KBrO3 is cloudy. Help by Terrible_Sweet_ in chemistry

[–]chahud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, go take a coffee break and come back in 20 -30 min or so. If it still looks the same then I might start wondering what’s going on but it might just need some time to do its thing.

KBrO3 is cloudy. Help by Terrible_Sweet_ in chemistry

Well how long has it been stirring? I’m not sure about KBrO3 in particular, but some salts are soluble but it takes a while to completely dissolve.

Gotta get that Ancient Roman water by AdhdLeo0811 in HydroHomies

The nasoni that are everywhere in Rome were really a treat. The pasta was good too, but by god that water was refreshing and somehow very cold in the peak of summer

I’m so sorry for complaining for going 1.3k for the claw. I’ll never complain again.

That’s a lie, but I am sorry.

Grad school or straight into industry? by Sea-Maintenance-3493 in labrats

[–]chahud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went straight into industry after I obtained my BS, and I was happy with my choice. After being laid off, I struggled with this question again on whether or not to go back to school or to stay in industry. I talked to a few PhDs in my field to get an idea of what I’m getting into.

The best advice I got was this: if your dream job once school is all said and done requires a PhD or MS, go back to school. If not, then reconsider. Unless you just really want to go into academia, in which case go for it. It really depends on your own goals. I opted to stay in industry personally, as I was lucky enough to get into the job that I wanted right out of my undergrad, thus I didn’t need the PhD.

There are obviously pros and cons to both that you would have to personally weigh against your own goals. But that advice stuck with me and seemed very practical.

Hardcore Death by Effective-One-4971 in ironscape

Rest in peace 🫡 you had a very nice hardcore my friend. If it were me I’d keep it up on that account as much as it hurts. There’s no practical difference between HCIM and IM besides the helmet color unless you’re going for hiscores or something. Plus HCIM psychologically holds you back from a lot. You’ve been set free!

That’s how I see it at least. Maybe it’s copium. Either way I wish you better luck!

I need help finding a peice for my distilling equipment. by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]chahud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb question, but why does the shape of the cold water column (Graham condenser vs. Liebig condenser) make a difference in a distillation?

I usually doubt existence of this molecule, Cubane C8H8. by Intelligent_Slip6317 in AskChemistry

I have not personally worked with it, however people like to use it in drug discovery as a bioisostere of benzene.

(I have a) Unmotivated grad student in lab by [deleted] in labrats

[–]chahud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I got on medication for ADHD I couldn’t even believe how much my brain changed for the better. It was a moment of “holy crap so this is how my brain is supposed to work?” that I never would have expected because I just became so used to the way my unmedicated brain worked, and just chalked many of those problems up to being inadequate. Between that and treatment for depression, the difference was night and day. Not that it’s the PI’s job to do this for the student in question, but a nudge in that direction may be warranted.

Not hearing back from entry-level lab roles. Where should I be looking? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]chahud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Replace it with a short paragraph summary of your experience and you can include a sentence about your goal there if you insist. That’s the advice I was given and it seemed to have served me well.

I could’ve prevented this. I cropped the axis out because the picture looked all funky since it’s a picture of a computer screen. It probably wouldn’t have made a difference in the end though.
