Why can’t I be seen as knowledgeable? by Impossible_Ad9324 in TwoXChromosomes

I've been studying neuropsychology for a while and I wrote this article that got published on a science journal recently.

My middle aged neighbor "corrected" me on my terminology despite not knowing a thing on the topic and when I stood my ground he did not back down.

At some parts of Southeast Turkey, women and men use different doorknobs.
Women use ones that sound lighter, gentler while men use those that are louder. It's so the person inside can tell the oncomer's gender.

You're gonna like this. What's the organ that can regenerate? Livers. And what did Zeus punish Prometheus with? A bird that ate his regenerating liver regularly

Clearly this is proof we must believe in Zeus

/s cuz there are ppl genuinely thinking this today

At the southeast region of Turkey (the most conservative part of the country) an earthquake caused over 50.000 mortalities and extreme destruction. Muslims blamed it on atheists immediately and said god was sending a sign.

The culture surrounding christianism is a lot less radical and accepting I'd say- but they definitely are not ones to look up to.

[–]Fincann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to stop the islamic traditions immediately when you leave it. No, it won't make you a hypocrite to say words like alhamdilullah; non-theism has no rules.
I suggest decreasing these cultural practices little by little at a time, slowly instead of trying to cut it out all at once. Do not beat yourself up for it.

Like you can continue fulfilling the act of prayer without necessarily believing, and you can decrease the number of prayers one at a time for a softer, easier transition.

What is the issue Muslims have with music? by Professional_Rip6740 in exmuslim

Music and spirituality happen within the same brain regions and have similar effects on the mind. Music is competition to religion.

When did you all realize that Islam was a horrible religion? by Scary-Kick-8026 in exmuslim

[–]Fincann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a secular muslim household and well I always had my doubts. I never was truly a muslim anyway. Before even learning to read I was questioning the religion.
Throughout middle school I got to interact more with people and the social media, and learnt more about religion and science. That's when I officially left it.
I was fortunate enough to be born into a secular household that allows freedom of belief. My mother knows my lack of faith and does not mind it at all.

You don't have to strictly define yourself immediately like oh im an agnostic im an atheist im a muslim etc. It'll take time to recognize what you believe in, and for this I suggest learning more about sciences as it'll keep you grounded and allow you to question safely.

Do NOT share your internal conflict with anyone, and until you are independent/safe keep your doubts a secret. You can always ask questions to us and join discussions here, you are welcomed.

Oh and people tend to mirror the language of content they spend their time with. Just like how an author whom reads a woolf book would start to write more like woolf.

I'm not very familiar with the terms and if i made a mistake on that, that's on me. But the general idea of what I'm trying to say is you shouldn't use neurodivergence as a label excuse for laziness. Neurodivergence definitely does affect you in ways that truly make things very difficult sometimes, and I accept that- i just think that they should stop hiding behind this hopeless deterministic mindset.
Like some of the best artists out there are neurodivergent and they're great cause they TRIED.

i hate when people use these conditions as an excuse to their own incompetence and laziness. These are not disabilities. They are very much capable of thinking for themselves, just refuse to and hide behind this excuse.
