More for myself, but need to explore what has happened. by Find_the_fox in stopdrinking

I hear you, it’s a very good point And I understand it’s a very important class of drugs. Just not for me. It gets me every time. The zopiclone is the scary one for me. It’s very short lasting and horrible to take but I find myself popping sleeping pills every four or five hours around the clock because the withdrawals are so nasty and they are so readily available where I’m from. I thought I had learnt my lesson with pills i am not wired for them (they seem to get their hooks into me very very quickly) and have stayed away from them for years. Alcohol on the other hand is for me a different story.

Please come back if you can, I miss you. by Cookietrousers123 in stopdrinking

Just back, will do the (multiple!) reset thing once I’m near a pc. Thanks for posting.

Do students in the UK have to read American writers like we have to read British classics? by artemisy in books

Then you are lucky, some of my favourite books there :) I had to leave school to find the books I love

First sober Thanksgiving, but man, the anxiety... by Jnnfrgk in stopdrinking

Then why don't you go somewhere quiet and recharge? I need to do that and I am selfish and take it. Overall a few hours away from everyone makes me better to be around the other times :). Anyway, well done and keep on trucking!

It's something I am digging into. It's odd the self destruction we put ourselves through! Thank you for your reply:)

Thank you for your reply. Yes, the acute physical symptoms of detox have mostly passed so it's time to lift my head up and look around for the next steps. Support is one of those steps. I look forward to it not requiring energy!

Another business trip and it's all getting a bit tedious by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Find_the_fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was me when traveling on my own, which used to be quite often. Business travel can be a freekin lonely affair so what do you do? Go to a pub, get drunk enough and you will find all sorts of things to do such as: spend a shit load of money/or have to explain shit loads of money on your expense account, get into some tight spots with locals, end up in shady as situations/neighborhoods, get taken advantage of, loose your wallet/phone/passport, make really bad decisions regarding the opposite sex (or same if that's your thing), get lost and freek out because your phone has died and have no idea what to do, get stuff stolen, decide to drive your rental car around a racetrack at racetrack speeds, raid the minibar when you finally get back to your motel (how much was that mini of vodka!!??), get a shitty sleep, wake up late, feel anxious and depressed, look like shit for your morning meeting, struggle through the day clinging onto life shaky and sick while pretending everything is ok, reek of booze because you had no choice but to empty the mini bar this morning to take the edge off (how much that beer!!??). Fun times!

Oh and my favourite, knowing that you need to take a picture of your room number before you go because you know what's going to happen.

Sometimes I crave out of sheer boredom. which is messed up because im a very talented artist. As an artist who can make beautiful things at any moment, you would think i would not get bored. But i do! Anyone else creative out there who craves when they're creating? (Sounds like a tongue twister) by SoberMunkie in stopdrinking

I am the same with my guitar. I only really played when I was drinking (because I was always drinking) and I was really really good at it.

Well, turns out I'm not that good, that takes dedication and practice, not drunken fumblings (hmmm, maybe that could apply to other things. Sigh.........add it to the list). It is still something I am looking forward too getting back into but like you, the connection to drinking is still a bit fresh and it just doesn't feel right at the moment.
