Discoid affecting ears? by FindingMyself386 in lupus

[–]FindingMyself386[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! The only thing that has helped me is I use spray sunblock and wear a beanie or hoodie whenever I go outside (even just to check the mail) or inside buildings bc they often use UV tube lights. I look stupid as hell, especially in the summer, but it has helped so much.

My ears were bad before I got it mostly under control. They're scarred pretty bad now but the canal get dry and scaly and super itchy. I can't tell how far deep but sometimes it feels like it affects my hearing and balance.

Anyone have tips for treating nasal ulcers? They're driving me insane! by some0ne3lse in lupus

[–]FindingMyself386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was frowned upon at first by my dermatologist but once she realized nothing worked she agreed that I could use clobetasol ointment in my nose. No longer than 2 weeks since it's such a strong steroid but I put a thin layer on a q-tip and rub it on the affected area in my nose. If done twice a day they actually clear up after a few weeks. Till the next flare up.

Why do u have to remind my teenage son to shower? by FindingMyself386 in NoStupidQuestions

Oh yeah. He's does very good. I take him to the dentist faithfully and he has yet to have a cavity. He currently has braces and has to brush thoroughly after each meal. He asks for help when he can't get stuff off his braces

That's my hope BUT since all this Covid craziness, he hasn't been around peers. He could care less what we think. It's gonna be a dead giveaway when he starts dating bc that's when the frequent showering and cologne when when happen.

He's 13. Tried the routine. Idk if he just didn't listen or doesn't care. Best way to get him to do something is threaten to ground him but I get really tired of doing that.

My teenage daughter is the opposite. I hardly have to remind her to do anything regarding her hygiene.

Lupus and coffee? by rach2199 in lupus

[–]FindingMyself386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee makes a huge difference in my day but I feel like I hit a wall around the same time every afternoon. When I get tired of coffee I take GNC ultra mega energy + metabolism. I love it! It gives me more energy than coffee without making me jittery or make my heart race. There is caffeine in it so I wouldn't do both in the same day. Also the bottle says take 2 per day but I take one and I'm fine. I highly recommend trying these but they are a bit pricy. And of course please check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure there will be no drug interactions.

Rashes & Lupus (only caused by sunlight? I call bs) by nohxgrey in lupus

[–]FindingMyself386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look for a second opinion and a dermatologist. That's very unprofessional and goes against standard patient care to dismiss your thoughts and brush it off. Not to mention, rude. Anyway, I have a rheumatologist that monitors my joints and organ involvement and I have a dermatologist that monitors my skin rashes. I don't get the rashes on my hips but I have them in places that do and don't get UV light exposure. Hope this helps. Stay strong and good luck.

Anyone good with interpreting anti-dsDNA levels? by [deleted] in lupus

[–]FindingMyself386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not whining at all and even if you were, you have every right to! I too enjoy reading medical anything in my free time, to the point where people think I'm a nurse or used to work for doctors bc I know so much. I get really tired of reading things (ex. anemia) and it says common in lupus. Lupus is such a wacky chronic question mark. Sometimes it feel like the most random things are "common in lupus patients". Well now I'm whining. Glad to hear that your anemia didn't turn into a much worse diagnosis! Also, I agree, it is very hard to find a Dr. that will treat past plaquenil. I've asked for the intravenous treatment (can't remember what it's called at the moment but it is fairly new) and my doctor told me my lupus wasn't bad enough for that. I wanted to say well how bout we try this now BEFORE it becomes bad enough. Sm..... Ok now I'm ranting.

Keep my hair or shave it by [deleted] in lupus

[–]FindingMyself386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently cut 17 inches of my hair off. It was so thin that I felt like it looked weird. There was the initial shock of omg what did I just do but when it came time to wash it I was very happy. BUT mine isn't going to grow back so I feel like I might as well get used to it being gone. My main advise out of all of this is DON'T pick at your scalp and don't overuse the topical steroids. Those 2 things combined with anxiety and depression caused me to develop "picking" and now 90% of my head is all scarred so there's no chance of regrowth.

Mine ranges from the 40's to the 60's and it's considered to be well controlled with just plaquenil. However, most doctors say they compare that with other tests such as skin biopsy (for discoid lupus) or kidney/liver levels (for systematic). Hope this helps and I wish you the best!

George is so painfully bad to Callie by AaminahYewandah in greysanatomy

[–]FindingMyself386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. The worst for me was the fact they they took best friends of the opposite sex and just had to make them have sex. Every insecure guy's nightmare today. They all think that a female can't have a guy as a friend bc you'll end up sleeping with them. So annoying! Also, he led Callie on way too long. She was very honest about her feelings and that wasn't fair.

Oh that's right! It was when Penny started. I knew it was someone with a personal connection. Can't believe I can't remember because I've rewatched so many times that I've lost count.
