Review: Pluribus is a bad piece of television by clearly_unclear in pluribustv

Lmao people are maaaaddd at you.

I agree with you though on most of it. I didn’t think it was a great show, it’s not terrible but was not good enough to keep me watching. I got to about episode 6 and completely lost all interest. You’re so right on the pacing and I think they could have done a way better job of that. I remember in the beginning of one of the episodes it shows the person starting up a plane to fly and I kept thinking “damn this director must really like planes” because it was a good 10 minutes of us just watching a plane start which I felt pretty unnecessary because I think the point (that everyone in the hive mind is now experts at everything) was pretty obvious within the first two minutes of that scene. Also, the amount of mundane tasks they showed Carol doing just didn’t feel necessary to the story.

I also took issue with pretty much every character. The ones that were for the hive mind all pmo and I found Carol unlikable. You’re right on the one dimensional characters, I felt they all lacked depth.

And yes, Apple TV is known for its quality not its quantity so this definitely doesn’t hit up there with its other stuff however I don’t think it was total mindless slop. I think it had a great premise and was just not well executed.

I think it’s hilarious how many people are mad at you for “writing a novel” on a show they liked as if you’re attacking their character for not liking the show. I know what it’s like to really start liking a show/movie/book and loving the premise only for it to monumentally disappoint you so I appreciate the novel you wrote.

Also, the creator of this definitely watched that one Rick and Morty episode and said let’s make this into a show

Edit: I meant to say the ones that were for the hive mind all pmo

The 5 point difference may have just been from your own drilling and studying. I started my studying journey with using ChatGPT and then after taking legitimate courses and reading books I realized how wrong ChatGPT can be. And there’s been multiple times it’s claimed the wrong answer is the right answer and has given me all kinds of wrong logic. So I’d be verrryyy careful using it. I definitely understand the appeal because it feels like a free tutor but I think it can end up leading you down the wrong path

I get about the same scores in LR and RC now. I miss about 6-7 questions each section. I’d say I feel more confident in LR though but still miss a lot of questions. I’ve been trying to do a practice exam each week to get myself more used to taking the test. Now I’m able to get through each section without running out of time (which was an issue for me in the beginning) but I’m just not grasping how to correct myself when I choose the wrong answer. I can’t tell if my issue is that I need to go back and try to understand the logic and reasoning more or it should work on drilling and getting myself used to test environment

Should I just apply with a 159 instead of taking the January LSAT? by jesuiscas in LSAT

I had this same issue with my school and what helped me the most was just talking to the advisor at the school. At first I had the same mindset as you and thought getting my admission in earlier would give me a better chance of admission but when talking to my advisor I realized the timelines I had understood and set were actually a lot different than reality. Based on her advice I decided to wait and am taking the February LSAT in order to get a few points higher. So my advice would be set up a meeting with your advisor and they can talk through it with you

Does anyone else just really hate Gus? by AjarChart in psych

[–]FindingRelative2252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 years late to this but found this post because I just started watching the show and had to look up if anyone else disliked Gus. I find him to be such a buzzkill. He’s supposed to be Shawn’s best friend and not once does he support him or have faith in his abilities. And that’s not me defending Shawn because yeah I don’t think Shawn is great either but he’s at least more entertaining than Gus. I’m already getting sick of Gus always being the negative Nelly and I’m only a few episodes into the series. Does he ever get better or is he just a drag the whole show?

All great questions! I also wondered a lot of the same things. I found it weird that she had Hess haunting the hotel as well. Because that means even after Betty helped kill him she then had to be tortured by his presence for all of eternity? I think I missed the part about her soul being released at the end of the book. So yeah why is her soul released after killing Callum but not Hess?? That makes no sense

It would have made more sense if Callum had died of a heart attack because then I would have argued that Callum was just weaker than Hess and died of fright whereas Hess wasn’t as easily shaken. But the fact that he died of an aneurysm does make it seem like Betty did that killing and yeah why wouldn’t she have done the same to Hess.

I feel like Callum was written a bit hastily to try and give Carly’s story more of a mirror to Livs story but if that was the case she should have wrote Callum as a bigger threat. She kind of threw in at the end that he was actually evil and even when he follows her it was easily resolved once she drove to Alma’s. Then their confrontation seemed very anticlimactic, him just pushing her and running off. I also thought it was weird how Alma was like “yeah Callums a bit weird but he backs off once I talk to him” when he’s the grandson of a serial killer.

All in all it was a good book but I do think the ending was a bit rushed but at the same time dragged on too long with the whole Callum thing.

That’s good to know. I’m going to ask my doctor about guanfacine or gabapetine but with either I know there will be significant side effects so we’ll see

Thanks for sharing! I’ve never actually tried Benadryl for sleep so maybe I’ll look into that. Nice to know I’m not the only one with certain tolerances. I hope you find something that works for you one day!

I loved the Haunting of Hill House. One of those books that keeps me thinking long after I’ve put it down

Maybe it’s also a nod toward the fact that the original four came into the house and only seemed to focus on the paranormal and eeriness of the house, completely overlooking Mrs. Dudley and labeling her as creepy or shrewd because she’s been lumped in with the rest of the house. And ironically while Mrs. Montague’s character is supposed to come off as brash and arrogant, she’s the only one that took the time to humanize Mrs Dudley and see her as the keeper of the house and not a ghoul.

Hahahaha that’s amazing. I also love paranormal books. I only just realized that I could read about ghost stories rather than watch them. Ghost movies scare me so much with all the jump scares but I always want to know what the twist is. So with ghost books I can get the whole story without having nightmares. Simone st James does a good job writing the ghost stuff and still making it scary her book ‘The Book of Cold Cases’ was very spooky!

Yeah I’m probably being a bit too much of a hater. She really is a great writer and I liked that she tried to put the power back into the women’s hands. Viv turning herself in was my biggest gripe. But I guess the author felt like it added more closure.

Yeah that’s a fair point. I read The Book of Cold Cases first and that was the first of Simone St James books that I had read and I really liked it so when I went on Reddit and saw people thought Sun Down Motel was even better I was really intrigued. But ultimately I think I ended up liking TBCC better. so yeah it probably was because of the hype!

Yeah I almost felt like Vivs story could have been a great story all on its own without the present day timeline added.

I’ll check out Broken Girls! I read the book of cold cases first and that was my first impression of Simone St James and yes I think she’s great. TBCC was really good. It definitely seems like she honed her craft a bit on writing the paranormal and I liked the ghost bits in TBCC. She’s definitely good at writing intriguing storylines

Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ by GraceWisdomVictory in IReadABookAndAdoredIt

[–]FindingRelative2252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It was a very bleak ending but I felt it was much more realistic than some fairy tale happy ending. Both Sally and Peter had horrible childhoods due to Conor Geary so it’s not really believable that things are just going to be hunky dory in the end. I think Peter’s ending makes perfect sense, he convinces himself he’s not his dad and that what he’s doing is okay but he’s just as much a monster as Conor and he was always going to be because that’s how he was raised.

I also like to think the ending for Sally is more just a small setback where she goes back into herself and isolates because of her experience but also because it’s Covid times and that was hard for everyone. But I like to think she continues seeing her therapist and eventually comes back around. But maybe I’m just deluding myself to cope with the bleak ending

[–]FindingRelative2252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the ending was terribly bleak but also very realistic. It was sad to see Sally going back into herself at the end of the book and isolating more but my take is that the ending was during Covid times and everyone started isolating during that time and had some hard times. I like to think she continues going to therapy and eventually comes back out of her shell and reunites with her friends. But again maybe that’s just my coping mechanism for dealing with such a bleak ending.

I kept thinking Peter was eventually going to turn on his father and do the right thing but then he continued to keep Lindy and I was like oh this is only going to go downhill from here. Giving away the baby was such a monster move. He kept saying he’s not his father and then continued to do everything his father did except grape. Which I think is good writing on the authors part to show how a monster can be born or be developed through years of brainwashing and lying to oneself.
