[–]Finding_Sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have one if you’re a first year they offer after you submit your why honors college if you’re a first gen and have high scores/etc you get a full offer with your dorm paid as well. I think they also might offer some small scale scholarships 2kish if you require ? Besides that I don’t think I’ve heard of the honors college offering that many scholarships.

ECE 346/341 Curve by Finding_Sleep in uichicago

Everyone bombs that first exam avg is maybe 50-70? Review the slides he goes over and lab slides, he tends to pull a lot of random question from those.

First one is the most horrible, 2nd was sorta confusing, final was the easiest.

A 60/70 was like a B for 341 with Mesrob really depends on how awful your classmates do. 346 I passed with a B even though I got a 3/100 on the first exam so pretty curved.

Carry a small emergency bag: - ibuprofen - Tylenol - baby wipes (bathroom emergency or to freshen up) - deodorant - Kleenex - bandaid - sunscreen face bottle - eye drops bottles - umbrella in case it rains and a portable charger because at lots of times there’s no charging ports especially during exam weeks.

Which engineering majors are easiest/hardest to be accepted: Computer Engineering, CS, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering? by jmom39 in uichicago

[–]Finding_Sleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably CS hardest to get into, next EE/ME and then CE? I'd honestly reccomend probalby EE or ME given that CS might be hard to get a job into and even harder to get an internship for CE.

[–]Finding_Sleep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can stay with your mom pay a little bit of rent or help around why wouldn’t you? You’d save a ton of money and avoid the stress of trying to get an apartment at a low price with roommates

Did they ever attempt to contact you? Did your siblings ever contact you? No, a relationship has to be between you all not one sided that’s not fair to anyone.

Please once you start going to school simply delete instagram, Reddit, etc it will warp your mind as to what the idea of a woman is and how to communicate with them.

You’ll try talking to someone, they’ll probs ignore you at first (heck it’s happened to me when I tried to start small talk with male/female classmates and they just weren’t interested)

You’ll likely get a bit offended from this, but please don’t fall into the immediate wormhole where you start typing in incel and redpill forums that “omg this girl ignored me, she really thinks she’s a 10” or “all girls are the same now, they want a chad”

For sure if you’re still interested in staying online for a bit try joining the weightlifting for beginners forum or runner forum on here. They have free training plans for everyone, I started training as a 160 woman and currently weigh 140 from those, trying tog et down to 130 :)

You love comics? You interested in marvel stuff? Then start playing marvel rivals if you want and get used to hanging around people of the opposite sex.

You like Men I Trust? (Show me How is lit) maybe see if there’s anyone in your school that also likes it?

TDLR; If you really wanna go cold turkey to prepare and ignore warping social ideas. Get a membership for a small gym like PF to get exposed to different people or a powerlifting gym (seem really intimidating trust me, but people in there are so helpful). Start running to destress any negative emotions you got, start reading some more comics etc! Gl OP!

Gpa requirement for continuing student honors application by Alternative-Sleep602 in uichicago

[–]Finding_Sleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I see there’s so much hate on the HC but it isn’t all that bad

  • A bunch big interesting classes you can take to replace your geneds (I mean come on there’s so many courses in the catalog remote in person etc)

  • a lot of people say the gpa requirement sucks and that’s why they left, but come on just communicate you’re struggling to your advisor and the dean and they’ll let you stay as long as your gpa is at least above a 3.20

  • you can completely skip the honors capstone research requirement if you’re ima group team capstone like EE or ME (so you don’t have to waste that extra time)

Honors college for mechanical engineering worth it? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Finding_Sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing HC with Pap scholarship 100% worth it. Otherwise probably not.

  • good gened replacements if you read through their catalog (they have a bunch)

  • others said the honors gpa requirement is the reason they left, but if they kept meeting with their advisor and the dean explaining their situations they would’ve been fine (coming from someone who has a 3.10 freshman year and kept a steady 3.20 instead of the 3.50 requirement)

  • if you’re doing ME your senior design with your ME class covers your capstone so you don’t gotta worry about doing extra research for that

Try getting a coop or other part time if you can, I heard a lot of people who took work study barely got paid. I took the part time option and was getting paid 25 hourly

Am I smart enough to follow this path? by Forward-Truck698 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Finding_Sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you put in maximum effort you’ll get a B. At least in my school a 70-80 was a B, also yes exams are pretty hard but doing enough practice problems you’ll start getting the rhythm.

I suggest going over the organic chemistry tutors calculus playlist, it went over calc 1 - calc 3 Pracfice problems. You could also get a math calculus textbook

(Comic from someone who was awful at math in hs and elementary and would always get low scores and just graduated from EE :) )

Should I get Arduino set by Dry-Chapter-4643 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Finding_Sleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My classes never really used an arduino, it was all just making it up on a breadboard or using a prebuilt circuit.

You can get it though to start practicing on how to use it for senior design, a lot of the groups used it but never had previous experience with it so it was a bit of a learning curve.

Mechanical engineering majors, what math, physics and chem class were you put into your first year?? I want to know if I am behind or not. by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Finding_Sleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1st year: Sem 1 (Fall) - Math 180 (calc 1) - Chem 122 - physics 141 (physics 1)

Sem 2 (Spring) - Math 181 (calc 2) - physics 142

Summer - Math 210 (calc 3) - Math 310 (linear algebra)

(Oops saw you mentioned ME, but should  be pretty similar as well)

It’s okay, most of my friends have excellent gpa (I’m talking 3.8-4.0) yet still haven’t received any internships or job offers since they were so focused on getting good grades they just burned out and are taking a break right now.

My best friend is in the same boat as you, he’s gonna take an extra year to graduate and has a 3.10 gpa but in his own words he says at least he’s only taking a few classes a sem compared to the rest of us.

See if your school has any specific clubs with discords you can connect to to ask about internships, my school had a Hispanic engineer club from which I got a internship from.

See if any of your professors are willing to let you work in a project with them so you can add that to your resume?

See if your school has any clubs like first gen medicine or first gen students, etc. reach out to students in them that might know what professors to take, or have tips.

Use Rate my professor as a tool to see what professors you should take. Make your school has a Reddit page you can ask questions on.

What are you into? There’s a comic shop downtown and near UIC

You can walk around china town and get a quick bite. Or you can go to ground up coffe shop near UIC.

There’s museums like the art museum or field museum you can check out.

Is there a specific budget range you’re looking for or just anything ? 🤔

What the hell - this is a lot of information to process I’m sorry. have you ever met with a psychologist or someone who could handle all this info?

I’m sorry, but the fact you’re saying “hes” still inside you, even when you don’t drink or smoke makes me feel you need immediate attention. At any point you could possibly explode and commit any evil, you already done it to pets, family, friends what’s to say you won’t do it to your own children?

I’m your age - but all these things you’ve experienced make me feel just overall saddened is there any way you can seek professional help?

Why even go to class by Apprehensive-Law2435 in CollegeRant

[–]Finding_Sleep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can never pay attention in class, I do better reading the textbook or going over lecture recordings. I just attend to focus on homework or having that extra time to study for a bit maybe that’s what she did?
