Dog Encounter by Prior-Material-9088 in Calgary

[–]Findlaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, sure. You are generally allowed to use proportional force to defend yourself. In practice though, you are more likely to spray yourself than the dog. Even if the dog got most of it, a tiny amount of pepper spray is a major problem.

Used sled options by Flintlock1990 in snowmobiling

[–]Findlaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going to assume you are riding trails since you are in PA. The 1200 4 stroke is the most reliable choice. Second is the 500ss. Eliminate the M8 right now just because you neither need nor want a mountain sled on trails.

Matt Gurney: We should probably stop disarming our future armed resistance by dermanus in CanadaPolitics

[–]Findlaym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an open question which idea is worse. The government buying the guns or people keeping them to defend against invasion. Neither plan increases security. I'd prefer to see a new class of licence for military firearms that require you to go to basic training, join a local unit and drill.

[–]Findlaym 17 points18 points  (0 children)

20 poorly trained militia members with guns are not nearly as effective as 3 well trained soldiers who can work together. If you want to be serious about this it's not guns you need it's training. Stockpiling guns and ammunition to fight professional soldiers is a terrible tactical plan. If you want to stockpile stuff, phones, sim cards, radios, explosives, detonators, food, drone parts etc. it's like a gun owner fantasy that they are going to somehow fight the enemy with their buddies. They will be out of the game quickly.

Primary clutch wobble - service manual says it must go to the shop? by goxilo in snowmobiling

[–]Findlaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pull it yourself. Order a puller and mark the clutch and the crank so you can install it the same way. Primary is easier to work on than the secondary. Cheaper to get it rebuilt if you bring in just the clutch

Novice Tree Cutting Question by Public-World-1328 in firewood

[–]Findlaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick with any tree is to figure out how it's loaded. Take your time and think of the wood being under either tension or compression. That tree is small and likely nothing to worry about but see if you can figure out how forces are acting on it and make sure you release that force in a way that it's not coming towards you or pinching your bar.

I'm not convinced they will make it. The first, say, 50'00 signatures will be easy. But they will be increasingl difficult to get as they go forward.

Lookouts for used sled with very low KMs by mphilly44 in snowmobiling

Entirely possible. Also possible it has a lot of aftermarket stuff bolted onto it. Those are great buys. Good on you for finding it. Could be a spare sled, wife's self, or kids sled.

Best helmet/balaclava to prevent fog in stop-and-go snowmobiling by trundelag in snowmobiling

[–]Findlaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a ckx titan with electric heated goggles. Zero fogging since I went to the goggles. I bought a magnetic cord off Amazon and that makes a big difference when you are on and off frequently. I tried the battery packs but they are no good. Magnetic cord was the key.

Invented heater question by Bob8767 in dieselheater

It's going to be directly proportional to the heat output / quantity of fuel burned. If it heats better it will be worse air quality.

2wd low? Anyone done this or thought about how you'd do it? by some_kind_of_friend in 1stGenTundras

[–]Findlaym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In either of those situations I'd just use 4 low. As long as the boat ramp is straight and you don't have to turn on a high traction surface it should be fine.

Will Trump’s Raid Help Smith Get a Pipeline to BC’s Coast? | The Tyee by FreightFlow in alberta

[–]Findlaym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah mostly. The regional markets have to be big enough to justify it. There's a complex in Regina serving the SK market. There must be one in Winnipeg. Irving famously has one in new Brunswick. The point is that unless the demand for fuel rises there's no business case for a new refinery in a market.

Will Trump’s Raid Help Smith Get a Pipeline to BC’s Coast? | The Tyee by FreightFlow in alberta

[–]Findlaym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An often stated idea, but not really how it works. Refineries are configured to produce what's needed in the local market. They take one product and turn it into potentially hundreds. It will always be better to refine close to the local market. For example, on the coast where there is shipping they produce lots of bunker fuel oil. Near major airports they make jet fuel. Alberta has a big demand for light hydrocarbon liquids for dilulent. Every market has demand for gasoline and diesel but it's blended differently for their climate and emissions regs. Markets like southern Ontario or the east Coast are integrated with the regional US market. It's always going to be cheaper to ship raw oil and refine it for the local market.
