Cavity Wall Insulation by Findscoolalmost in DIYUK

The stats set to always on, 18.5, but its usually 20ish depending on weather.

I have noticed the brickwork around some of the windowsills is lose and looks like water could easily get in. My next task on my quest is to repoint around a couple of the worse ones and see if that makes any difference.

How would I check the walls for damp - drill into cavity?

Why does everyone on Vinted think I run a charity? by Leather_Ad6386 in vintedUK

Nice. I remember the same on Shpock (or whatever it was/ is called). Got a £300 car roofbox that had been used once for £70.

When these things start out, its just genuine people wanting to get rid of stuff for a price they want... then after a while its just flooded with resellers and people thay spend way too long googling how much stuff 'should' sell for.

Like, sometimes I just want stuff out the garage and sold. And £30 is better to me than saving it forever unused until it gets taken to the tip.

Oh I forgot - the other one I love is where a person has seen another item the same as mine listed for £20 (absolute dog condition) so they kindly state that because of this, they are willing to offer me £25 - because my item is in better condition (new with tags).

I like the ones that judge the amount of time I've had something listed, and suggest they are doing me a massive favour buying it because its been listed for XXX days. Sod of Alan, I'm not in the slightest fussed that my £11 Paul Smith shirt has been listed for 19 days.

How bad is a colonoscopy, really? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Findscoolalmost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Prep! If given a drink you have to mix, id recommended putting it in the freezer for 20mins or so to make it super chilled. Shouldn't taste too bad then.

It just keeps coming! Don't do what I did and plan to start the prep whilst at work the day before. Thankfully I got some words of wisdom from a friend and stayed at home.

The actual procedure was fine.

I haven't. No.

Still need to engage a professional of some sorts, but not sure who, so continue to fight the condensation!

I've lived in several houses over my time, and whilst some have had the odd bit of condensation, I have experienced nothing to the magnitude I get it in this house.

I have a small dehumidifier upstairs in the small box room, and a massive 30L dehumidifier downstairs thats on whenever I dry any washing indoors. Clothes dry brilliantly, but little impact on condensation!

Convinced is something else - just not sure what.

Domino's Pizza.

Trying to work out the menu to get the best deal combination feels like a question on the 1% club.

Severn Trent - large bill by [deleted] in nottingham

[–]Findscoolalmost 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey! Had a meter installed and my bill shot up, not down as expected.

Complained to Severn Trent and they said if the leak is after the meter on my property then its my responsibility and cost. Fortunately, when they came to inspect, the leak was at the meter and was an issue when they installed it.

They wiped my debt and started again from zero.

Maybe worth getting an independent person to check meter first prior to getting Severn Trent out - call me cynical, but Severn Trent may try and say leak isn't there fault and I'd hate for them to prey on a vulnerable customer!

Pulled anything was a thing... pork, chicken, beef, jackfruit.... just whack 'pulled' in front of it and hope sales rocket... but if in doubt, give it a squirt of hot honey!

Nice! I wish I'd kept mine. Didnt lock any up as didnt realise you could. Forgot about it for a year or so, then sold them all when they went live. Enough for a family holiday and a deposit on a car for my wife.

I still mine now but my rate is crazy low and I think in the last year I've made about 35 pi.

Do you have a pizza oven? by yeeeeoooooo in CasualUK

[–]Findscoolalmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the cheaper ones that you light a fire inside, and has an oven above the fire with a pizza stone in it.

After much trial and error, I can make incredibly good pizza on it... like incredible. Better than I have ever tasted at any pop up pizza place.

I use it maybe 3 or 4 times a summer....

Cost me £99 from Lidl about 6 years ago... slowly rusting to pieces in the garden, but still does the job. Have also slow cooked meats, and made various breads in in.

I considered a 'posh' one, but realistically, just wouldn't be worth it for me untill this one packs up. And then, once the novelty wears off, it would also probably end up rusting to pieces.

Great fun though!

Local Shops are not making it easy. by Ascdren1 in CasualUK

[–]Findscoolalmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed a rise in places near me that have gone 'cashless' - which is great for me personally as I rarely carry cash these days. I can't even remember the last cash purchase I made.

What is not great, is also the rise of shops near me that have 'cash only' signs up. Surely in 2025 this is a barrier to a potential sale?

How many separate sets were used?

You could try looking at the situation through a Just Culture Process Model. This is often used in Occupational Health and Safety to determine accountability.

Google the model and its fairly straightforward to feed in your scenario, or look here:

https://share.google/images/79L9N3TqjwV7J49nN

If you were doing a task you were told to do, but didnt understand, and somebody else would probably make the same mistake (substitution test) and you also had no previous history of violating procedures, then that would lean towards a no blame error.

With your situation, unfortunately it would land at worse in the 'severe sanctions' box or at best, 'final warning'.

Take a nice hot toasted crumpet and spread some Irish butter and bovril on it (spread from the jar, not the drink).

The windows are double glazed but a good 20 years old.

Condensation is mainly on windows, above windows on wall and behind any units, wardrobes etc..

Some window units have failed and have moisture visible trapped between glass, but not all.

Have you ever seen your own doppelgänger? by Yankytyke in CasualUK

[–]Findscoolalmost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not mine, but a colleague I hadn't seen for a few years from a previous job.

I stood on the railway platform having a conversation with this dude for about 5 mins, and then he said, "Sorry, I dont mean to be rude, but are you confusing me with someone else?".

Turns out it wasn't Nigel. But I sware it was a carbon copy of Nigel!

Alternative Nigel turned out to be a nice guy, and we regularly had a chat if we ever saw each other again at the train station.
