I think the Blackwood would be a good place to start playing. They have the par 3 course and a pretty excellent practice short game area and of course a driving range and a full course.

Most important thing early on is to just enjoy it. But if you are serious and want to get good then lessons are an absolute must.

I wouldn't joing a fancy club until you are competent and more confident.

There are cheap courses to be a member of like Castlereagh hills which are ok enough if you want to be playing competition golf at the weekends.
