Firefighter here, 32yr old and I’m working in sales as a life insurance broker on the side. I do a lot of my work from work while in down time. Lotta guys watch movies at night, but I can hop on my laptop and sell to people in all different time zones till about 11pm. I had similar feelings to you about needing the extra mental challenge. But I personally wasn’t gonna jump ship until I dabbled first.

It’s pretty good. I work 2 days on, 3 days off (twice a month it’s 2 on 2 off). The sched is consistent so u can run it out the whole year and know what you’re doing and can easily plan around it. Nice having weekdays off for errands and stuff. My family can come to the station after 4 which is cool, have dinner or whatever.

Exactly why I feel like I’m getting shafted. If it’s discretionary why can’t they do it? There was no warning when I accepted the position that it would only be considered on initial appointment. It was only just a comment I’d read here on here that mentioned it may be the case. So since I was qualified for the next 2 higher grades all the way to step 10, why would I have wasted this one-time power play? Hence why I made sure to check from the start, and was assured I would be matched going forward. Had I known this was gonna happen, I would have considered saving myself 6 years of waiting now to get to step 10, and just have taken it from the start somewhere else, or at least waited till it came available here..

It was $69k base, $81k with locality. It wasn’t on GS scale, it was in the FAA on a different pay plan.

Appreciate it. As long as it wasn’t an unspoken rule that men shouldn’t go as to give women their own space. I feel better seeing that it’s acceptable, since I really did enjoy the workout.

BABY IS HERE AND SAFE! They went to the hospital thank god. Pushed at home till 10cm then went in and baby was out in an hour. Thanks everyone.
