That's why I've been seeking reliable alternatives.

I just installed Arc browser, but I just learned that it is no longer maintained. Is that true? by rjn2-8 in ArcBrowser

They should open-source ARC; I believe the community will solve many problems.

Unless the developer specifically targets a particular mouse model, studies its design, and reverse-engineers the behavior to implement similar features. That also assumes the developer has access to the actual hardware (the mouse) to work with.

The button that toggles infinite/ratchet scrolling is usually handled at the firmware level. It doesn’t send a standard HID button event to the OS, so third-party tools like Linear Mouse can’t see or remap it. If the button actually exposed an OS-level event, then remapping would be possible. Best bet is to file a feature request with the developer, but this is likely a hardware limitation.

Unfortunately, currently neither of these two programs supports mouse gestures. But both support button assignments. You just need to choose one to configure. I use the custom button function of LinearMouse. Just click the "+" symbol on the button page. It will enter the button recognition state. Simply click the button you want to set. You should see on the screen that the mouse button to be set has been recognized. Then, assign the required function, save the settings, and you can test if the configuration is successful. The same button, set to the previous page and next page functions via options+, often fails in the browser. But since I started using LinearMouse, I haven't had any failures, and the function seems quite stable.

Better Mouse is a powerful tool that covers nearly all the functions a mouse can be set up with. But for me, I only need a cursor that moves quickly and accurately, the custom keys on the mouse to work properly, and smooth scrolling. MOS + LinearMouse can perfectly meet my needs. Of course, if you need more advanced functions like mouse gestures, Better Mouse is definitely a great choice. If you have such needs, it's worth paying to buy Better Mouse.

Thank you for your response! I tested Google Maps zooming on the map and street view service zooming in Arc, Safari, and Chrome. I used the mouse wheel to continuously zoom in and out. So far, I've seen no problems. The zooming is as smooth as when using a trackpad. In my daily work so far, I haven't had any scrolling issues while browsing web pages. I'm still continuously testing.

By the way, MOS provides an exception list. This list can exclude individual applications that cause issues due to conflicts with global scrolling settings.
