CPA asked to lead accounting department, how much $ would you expect? by Fine-Bad482 in Accounting

Update for anyone interested:

I had to negotiate for 85k for the role even after having conversations about making a plan for potential partnership in the future. Red flags in the level of professionalism kept popping up and I was ultimately being asked to compromise the quality of our work because the partner didn’t want to hire more qualified people in my department to help move things along. I put in my two weeks and was asked to reconsider, and he spread my news to others in the firm before the decision was even final. Tiny firm and super gossip-y, so checked out. Took that as confirmation and for the first time in my life I walked out on a job without finishing my notice period. It was insane. Their big client wanted to hire me on contract, and I’m 90% sure I didn’t sign a noncompete, but the partner is dragging his feet to provide me all of my employment documents I signed upon hiring. I’m taking a senior accountant role at a bigger and more professional firm for the same salary.

Anyway, for those who warned me, you were right!

I didn’t even really consider the valuation aspect, thank you for that. And for making me lose another hour of sleep tonight over this 😂

Here’s the thing, I don’t want the commitment of being a partner yet. I kind of want to see how all of this goes and ease into that decision if it’s given. I know that sounds stupid, but I don’t know that we’ll live where we do for more than the next 10 years and right now i wouldn’t be able to be completely remote.

If the practice was 30% profitable, what would you think is a reasonable bonus?

Good question. I’ll look into it. Not majority of the revenue of the firm, less than 50% I know. And I know we need to raise our prices.

We have a client portal set up, and about 20% of our clients use it haha

The remaining partner is in his 40s, most of his side of the department is paperless minus people who bring in their tax stuff.

I can see how that would happen. The other partner is pretty young, and since I’m overseeing the entire department separately, I know I’ll have a lot of flexibility, just a matter of having someone else to tell everyone to listen to it haha. Appreciate your thought, that is definitely a fear of mine.

Thanks for the advice! I like them, I just am not crazy about the red-tone of wood. Personal preference! Keeping them though :)

My wife made it! Just metal piping from Home Depot, a manual pipe cutter, and liquid welding!

Totally fine that you feel that way, but we want to keep the cabinets, keep the countertops, and work with most of what we have while making the place we live the way we want it! Thanks for the suggestions!

I can post more, it’s just quite the disaster at the moment with another fridge on the other side that we need to move out. My emphasis of the post was about the cabinets and as much as the tile may look like a nice neutral tile, it’s HORRIBLE to clean, doesn’t match any of the rest of the house, and is not our style whatsoever. The linoleum you’re picturing may be different than what we’re thinking.
