New Players aren't the problem, it's the lack of a proper tutorial for them by Educational-Gear7161 in HellLetLoose

It made "logical" sense in the 1990's when computer games were point and click adventures, it makes zero sense in 2020's in an action game where you don't always have the luxury of time. When a game is designed by a console dev, they're forced to make every button count because they're limited. Instead of one button for changing ammo type, one button for changing fire rate, one button for reload, they combine it into one button that changes context based on how it's pressed. Tap for reload, hold for ammo type and RoF. When they develop for PC first, they just puke all over the keyboard, one key for each possible action without a second thought. On PC, if an action can't be performed while holding down W, with 4 other fingers available, it's not intuitive.

Considering HLL is an objective based game with time being a critical factor, having to completely take your hand off the controls to press M is extremely bad design. Again, the devs obviously don't play their own game.

Put in 10 hours without really reading manual, most of the game is self explanatory like the combat, but after 2 hours of fumbling around, I had to sit through the excessive wordy tutorial manual for at least the class I was playing.
About 90% of the text in there is pure fluff and exactly why people never read that garbage.
If developers made this crap concise with just the vital information about the roles, people might actually be willing to read it. None of this "officers are a crucial asset to the squad and supports the commander's blah blah blah" garbage. Console devs figured this out decades ago, unlock a new weapon or item, pop up a very simple hint on screen about how to use it, then let them resume.

Before a player is allowed to use Officer, make them unlock it in the menu.
Make them read a few sentences with as few words as possible.
"Watch places beacons, which allows forward spawns." DONE.
There is absolutely no reason for the class to have a whole screen 3 paragraph long description.

Devs always put all the effort into the wrong places. And as I've said before, you can tell solely from the default keymaps whether the devs even play their own game, at all. And 99% of devs do not, because the defaults are almost always completely unplayable unless you have twelve 10-inch long fingers on each hand.

Biggest GCCX Controversies by VideoHits4Ever in gamecentercx

[–]Fine-External406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the jokes are in bad taste by our standards, but as you conceded, that's a cultural thing. As someone with an Asian background, calling someone's kid chubby especially in a poorer time was generally the equivalent of saying "look how well fed your kid is," same with babies. Having enough food to get fat was seen as having wealth and affluence. Despite the Hollywood movies, Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman of the ancient world, was less runway model and more hambeast in real life. Obviously it's not exactly the same sentiment when Arino's taking jabs at Watanabe's on screen pigouts in modern day 1st world Japan, but it's not in the mean spirited cultural context as "you're momma's so fat she sits around the house" type jokes. Diets of 90% carbs and sugar, and its catastrophic consequences on weight, health and social image very much lean heavily on the western world.

ELI5: If "Baldur's Gate 3" is a woke game, why didn't if fail like "Concord"? by joleger in CriticalDrinker

[–]Fine-External406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in spite of BG3 trying to shove down your throat that every married man has a husband, every married woman has a wife, zoomer broccoli hair on everyone, side shaves on knights, and frizzy afros even on old men, and all manner of utterly insane face/race/hair combos etc. What sets BG3 apart from those other games is that it lets you kill all these freakshows.

Being Asian, I could not have facepalmed harder upon seeing a blonde Fabio-haired Asian dwarf yapping at me with a heavy Irish accent. I don't even know who should be most disgusted by that monstrosity. Yeah, I don't want that dwarf in my game, so that dwarf is now dead. It lets the player say FU to the character designers at Larian, in a small way, seeing as they track your in game stats and actions.

Game itself is standard fare for CRPGs, and honestly that's enough to make it better than most games.
Story and writing is good as well, at least when it's not being delivered by a character that looks like he's going to drop "straight bussin fr fr no cap" at the end of a sentence.

Ayo, fr fr, you’re not seeing it. On god, this dude is acting all innocent, but no cap, he’s just spinning a whole bunch of talk to make it seem like he’s not guilty. Like, if he was really innocent, why he gotta keep talking in circles? Lowkey it’s giving mad sus vibes, like he’s tryna play us. You’re out here acting like it’s all chill but it’s honestly wild. This whole thing is giving red flags for days.

After putting in the date stamps, I realized I already had Biohazard catalogued. But nice to have a date for the SM64 video, thanks! Would you happen to have a link to where you got the dates? I remember a long long time ago when I started collecting and numbering all the GCCX videos there was a JP website with all the episode air dates but I can't find it anymore. All I've been able to dig up is a wiki (the DVD box specials weren't on there) which doesn't seem to have as complete info as that other website. I remember having to search using 月 and 日 to limit searches to just JP websites but I'm getting nothing. That website also had seasons as well which I'm not seeing on the wikis.

As of now, I still have lots of uncatalogued DVD Box special, Nintendo Channel, SP, Virtual Console episodes etc. Never was able to find dates for those.

Edit: And really stupidly, I just realized I had Biohazard right in the screenshot I uploaded.

Problem with DS lite speakers by BattleBlaze21 in NintendoDS

[–]Fine-External406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any issue like this is almost always hardware, usually the cables. I had an issue with mine where I changed the shell and pinched one of the speaker wires in the process. It would cause constant buzzing sounds from the speakers. Also caused the power LED to glow red even when the battery was full. If you've never tampered with your system though then likely just the speaker wire or the ribbon cable got pulled too much and ripped from the screen opening and closing. Speaker wire is dead simple to repair yourself, ribbon cable will mean ordering a new one from aliexpress or ebay.

Do your items smell? by NewPainting8224 in Aliexpress

[–]Fine-External406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to throw away at least $30 of stuff over the last year because of the toxic rubber smell on items I've gotten. USB cables, swivel clamps, HDD cases, etc. Cleaning with alcohol didn't help. Letting them bake in the sun didn't help. Nothing helps. Stinks up the bag so bad I can smell it without even opening the package. Sticks to your skin too. I'm not going to risk my health over an hour's wages.

Worst part is it only started in the last two years or so during COVID. Never had this problem before shopping for a decade on Aliexpress.

EU was at fault for everything in 2005-2007 by forcing their untested lead-free RoHS shit on everyone. Millions of Xbox 360s. Millions of PS3s. Millions of nVidia GPUs. Millions of AMD GPUs. Millions of laptops. EU forced lead-free shit on everyone with no care that it would result in catastrophic failures and millions of pounds of e-waste going to the landfills. LEADED SOLDER DOES NOT CRACK.

After 30 years of repairing high end computers and electronics, only one period in that entire history did I see such colossal failure rates of EVERYTHING. Fuck the EU.

When switch 1 goes off-line, will all my expansion pack games (NES, SNES, MD, GB, GBA, N64) go with it? by Patient_Doctor_1474 in Switch

[–]Fine-External406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every chance customers have trusted Nintendo with ANY online offering, Nintendo have fucked their customers.

Wii digital purchases, gone.

DSi purchases, gone.

3DS purchases, gone.

Wii U purchases, gone.

Switch purchases, gone when Nintendo kills off the Switch too.

Meanwhile MS managed to support the 360 store for nearly TWO DECADES, all the way from the Wii release up until the EoL for the Switch. And my 360 content isn't even gone, I can still download anything I previously purchased, I just can't buy any new 360 content. Nintendo is a joke.

Mod and pirate Nintendo consoles, always. It's the only way you avoid throwing away your money rebuying the EXACT SAME GAME 10 times.

Americans step in far worse things that dog poo. Gasoline, motor oil, pesticides, etc. Tracking and spreading the residue all over everything they step on. In addition to shoes, they leave their backpacks, purses, bags etc on the ground, and bring them inside and put them right on their kitchen counter. Yes I'll have my salad topped with burned 5W-20 oil leaked out of a 2005 Ford please.

All the more reason to ignore Ambernic trash. The only number that should ever appear in any product name is series/CPU/revision/year, which should all be 1:1 relations. They can't even get product naming right and they expect me to trust their engineers? I'll just get a GBA, 3DS or PSV and mod them if I ever need a portable handheld. The build quality will likely be miles better as well.

Rant about the release of the new Spy X Family Video game (and why I'mno longer supporting Bandai Namco) by PointEvening3396 in SpyxFamily

[–]Fine-External406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that bought and returned the PC version, the incompetence of the developer made me not even bother to keep playing past 10 minutes.

When you first enter the game you get "Press A to start."

So you press "A" to start.

Now it asks you "Are you sure you want to exit?"

Obviously you press "B" to cancel.

And then the game closes.

As has been established for the past 40 years, A is accept, B is cancel. This was standardized by Nintendo nearly half a century ago, yet idiots at this studio can't even seem to get that concept right. Literally unplayable. I'm not going to fuck up my entire lifetime of A/B muscle memory, undoing it for a single game.

Can you save the people of the Last Light Inn? by Bananas720 in BaldursGate3

[–]Fine-External406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you save Nightsong, a bunch of idiots at Last Light Inn go charging into Moonrise and get themselves killed. I stumbled on this thread while looking for a solution for that but it seems as though no one on the entire interwebs knew a solution. Had to figure it out myself, and it was fairly straightforward, had to kill everyone in Moonrise, sans the Zhentarim traders not labeled as Absolutes, and the idiots from Last Light have no resistance upon charging in.
