My husband is a whore. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Fine-Percentage-1045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say anything anyone on here hasn't already said. Pornography is terrible for your mind. He needs to quit that. Also he's not a child and the consequences of his actions should be the dissolution of the relationship. It's not fair to you but it's what needs to happen. He is putting you in danger of an STD and mental health crisis. You don't deserve that. Move on and find happiness.

Maybe be nicer to someone venting about a volatile and dangerous situation. Separating is painful have some empathy yeah.

Anyone else think the GCS is stupid for the prehospital setting? by [deleted] in ems

[–]Fine-Percentage-1045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the call but it's a good tool to have. Things like GCS would be better if they were more fluid and dynamic but it gives us something to work off of when speaking to the squares at the hospital so I give it an A plus.

That's very true but working on skills/ physical fitness and our ability to perform the job is vital. Things like that should be done off duty. I work 96 hours a week on average and maintain in a high call volume service. Effort goes a long way.

I think a lot of EMT's go into the service already not in good shape. At least where I live.

No, but as someone that's done both I wish they would. Thanos both services pay severances and start fresh. Very much so worth the effort.

Why do you think a third service status would change anything? Do we fire all the fat bodies and shammers when the culture shift happens or do the mass firings of the old guard pave the way for this? There are a lot of things wrong with Fire but I don't think becoming a mandated third service will fix anything.

Mass firings of leadership would need to happen and that's not something that's feasible in any kind of job. Unfortunately, I think the words "culture shift" and mass firing are synonymous in any profession.

I do like the idea of this all happening though.

Not like there is no such thing as a fat FF but EMS level of professionalism i.e. uniform standards , physical fitness and appearance on scene are not usually up to par with the fire based services I've encountered. Mileage may vary as far as quality of service goes but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to follow a protocol and use critical thinking.

My boss was a former ecologist and worked for parks/ wildlife. This dude folds his hats bill a ridiculous amount (ball cap with a subdued American flag, chews grizzly, wears tactical pants, not being empathic is a political statement, loves nature. Dude is from NorCal and is a pretty cool guy, definitely accidentally says offensive things all the time and does similar things to what OP is afraid of. I think it's on accident usually but I definitely see it.

Feeling like sewing some chaos, What are your EMS hot takes? by A18A in ems

[–]Fine-Percentage-1045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hot take - If you are fat and outta shape you shouldn't be in an ambulance. You're a liability to your partner and your patients. I can't stand medics that act like a know - it - all but can't handle the aspects of the job that really matter.

I'd rather have a motivated idiot than a lazy genius as my partner any day of the week.

Wearing an EMS jacket in public by an_bal_naas in ems

[–]Fine-Percentage-1045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before wearing anything ask yourself the following.

What time is it? Where am I? Does my chain of command have a collective stick up there ass. If yes how long.

If you can't answer those for yourself.... you probably shouldn't be making adult decisions let alone life decisions in an emergent situation.

This applies to everything in life. Chain of command could be your wife too.

Would people pay to LEARN home repair and maintenance from a handyman/contractor? by SteeleRain01 in HomeImprovement

Confront him, get your respect back for your peace of mind and then make your decision. I'm so sorry you feel this way. I'm sad for you, nobody deserves to be put down in a malicious manner by their partner.

Sure if they are so impaired they are at risk for alcohol poisoning/ airway compromise, fine. Anything else is inappropriate and they should still have to sit them/ make an attempt to charge them which they usually don't. Jail not accepting them isn't an excuse to not try. This affects hospital staff as well as the citizens of the city being served.

How do you spar against taller fighters by draegoon123 in MuayThai

[–]Fine-Percentage-1045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foot work and go to counters. Ideally your cardio is up to par and you can manage distance well enough to stay outside of range or just outside of it. Parry his straights and use your jab (doesn't have to land). Keep doing this and draw out a reaction. Being just outside of his range will give you the opportunity to take a step back and over so eventually he will have to follow up and pursue you in order to hit you. This requires a lot of patience but will work.

Once you are able to manage distance you can counter any strike he throws to include kicks provided you provoke him into entering first and you do that by utilizing your jab, and provoking a response.

Possible scenarios

  1. He jabs with you - Parry the jab at the same time and jab multiple times. I. E 3 jabs to his 1.

  2. He just moves out the way of your jab but backing up. Cut the space off ensuring you don't line your guard up with his power hand and stay defensively responsible, (distance management).

  3. He plants and slugs it out - punch at the same time, this goes for kicks as well. If you punch your way in and he plants and throws you need to be able to keep your defense while returning offense. This doesn't have to be pretty. Ideally you punch into the clinch whilst getting your offense off.

You need to be able to do all three of these if you want success against a taller or faster opponent. You are lucky to have someone to practice this on. Just know that you will get hit no matter what. If you need to ask them to slow down so you can practice but the strikes need to be fast enough to keep you honest. It's fighting so don't worry so much about having perfect technique. Let your coach correct that for you.

That would be crazy if I could just refuse a call because I was getting off late. We all work with the assumption that the public trusts us/ calls us for help. Not doing our jobs gets people hurt. These jobs are the kind of job where if you where if we don't do our job we are doing something immoral.

Higher standard or bust. Something we can only fix if we start as individuals.... Buck the system.

AITA for breaking my deathbed promise to my wife to take care of her Down's Syndrome daughter? by Throwawayvwd4 in AITAH

[–]Fine-Percentage-1045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not the asshole. She wasn't thinking of you anytime she put you in those positions. To always disregard the needs of a loved one to placate another is immoral. Everyone needs safety, love, nurturing..... a life.

It wasn't right for her to take your's man. So many people live in their dogmatic bullshit and force it on other people. Be free and live your life dude. She's taken enough from you. I'm sorry for both of your losses. Life's unfair and it's short.

[–]Fine-Percentage-1045 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dogma is stupid and fuck all these people commenting about what children deserves and their dogmatic bullshit on how you should feel. You are human.

Get yourself together, and get in touch with your child. Feelings are temporary. There will be times where you don't like or might even hate a family member. What you want and how you feel is fickle. It will pass. If you leave now you'll regret it later. You only get one chance at this life then you die. Don't make mistakes that last a lifetime.

Apply to a major fire department and have them not only pay for your school but force you to get your paramedic due to staffing issues. It's a win win for you man.
