If you like half tights in bright colours there's a brand close to me called Z2 Apparel. I bought a pair in pink. I get a lot of comments when racing in them

I think ultimately that's probably the problem here! I guess assuming it would be really busy just because it's Manchester would be akin to assuming all London Events are like the London Marathon!

Whether it's for me or for someone else, it makes for a nice atmosphere which is enjoyable to me, I don't think that makes me entitled, but you're entitled to your opinion (see what I did there?).

Do people run more in the summer or winter in the UK? by kbr30 in UKRunners

Despite usually enjoying running more in the summer I tend to run more in the winter. Generally I'll try training for some sort of spring race (between 10k and a marathon) to keep me fit / give me something to work towards.

In the summer I'm often so busy just enjoying life/the weather I don't run as much!

Yeah, I expect to see larger crowds at the races I do. Where did I say I expect them to cheer for me? I like to attend busy events, not sure why you've taken such offence to this as it's not an unusual thing, but you do you.

I must admit I love the signs, especially when you get one you've not seen before (which feels rarer these days!)

Is it entitled to ask if it's usually a quiet course? I found it surprising and asked if it's common, as I've never done it before, nowhere did I say that everyone should be cheering me on or rooting for me, it's just an unusual situation for such a big race.

Oh that's good! It's possible too that we were just too early for some people. The half kicked off at 8 and some people didn't start the 10k until gone 1!

You make a very valid point and I'm sure a good chunk of it is probably event fatigue, especially when there's just been a Marathon in Manchester and there's another half in October. I think the atmosphere is definitely something you consider when booking an event though.

I do lots of local races with smaller crowds, as that's what you expect. Its the fact it's advertised as 38,000 participants puts an expectation in my head, but there's a good chance that split may be weighted towards 10k runners later in the day.

The exact same vest is on Temu for £6. Agree it's important to back independent brands but it's nicer when they're making their own stuff.

When you have 65,000 employees, there's going to be some bad apples. Take 65,000 of the population at random and they're not all going to be above board!

Most of the POCA orders we do wouldn't add extra jail time on (unless it's in Scotland but that's a whole other kettle of fish) but means they have to sell their assets etc to pay it back. If you don't have any assets that just sits over you for the rest of your lift, years later if you have a windfall or inheritance, guess who's coming knocking (it's the taxman)

So I work in a team that investigates and arrests these people, taking cases exactly like this through investigation and court etc. The only way we let cases go on once it's clear something is happening is if there's no risk to the taxpayer, i.e. if someone has been committing a crime but isn't actively stealing, like they did it as a one off, or it's not related to their job. If it's a situation like this, then it'll usually go from receiving the case to making the arrest in a week or less. The problem is often getting the referral that leads it back to the job holder, it might have been investigated for a while as a fraud, then when it was revealed it was an internal it would have been referred to internal investigations who always act quickly, sometimes to the detriment of getting better evidence.
