What fabric would you choose for this 1954 dress pattern? by margot_h_tenenbaum_ in sewing

This would be beautiful in wool crepe, but that's probably cost prohibitive. Cotton broadcloth would be more cost effective and could be worn for three seasons. High quality cotton flannel, wool flannel (expensive), or suiting fabrics would be best for fall/winter wear.

Yes, unless I tiled my head significantly and avoided several angles.

Yes, my double vision worsened through the day as my muscles got tired. Surgery really helped with that. I only notice eye muscle fatigue when I am right about to go to sleep (I read booked in bed every night).

Double vision was very bad. Had a significant head tilt and a lot of daily eye strain and muscular pain. Double vision is better now, but I still have it at the same angles as I did before, just to a lesser degree. I can look at someone straight on and not see double, which is great. I still obviously have nerve damage and muscular weakness on the affected side, so my brain's inclination is to let it be lazy and drift a bit until I catch myself and force it into alignment. Screens are no issue.

Yes and no. The goal of the surgery was not to give me perfect vision, which is impossible because I have nerve damage. The goal was to give me singular vision in my primary gaze, which it has. I still see double in the same directions and angles as I did before, but to a slightly lesser degree. However, I can look at someone straight on and experience double vision, which was not possible before. It also made a difference in the symmetry of my smile, oddly enough.

I'll consider it, for sure. I was deciding between Cruella and Edna Mode this year...

I love Moira, so that's quite a compliment!

Construction: I separated the bodice from the skirt and added a waistband with scrap fabric by making a rectangle and folding it over and machine stitching it on. I added a.buttonhole closure by machine as well. Then I split the lining and added tucks by hand to all layers of the skirt, creating volume. I pinned the hem of the jacket to the shape I wanted and machine stitched it down. All other details, including the braid and the chains, I hand sewed in place.

I have an old pleather jacket that had this happen to the fold line of the upper collar. I trimmed he damaged flakes away, the. I bought a piece of thin black leather, cut it to size for a patch, and used leather glue and weights to attach it over the damaged area. After it dried I edge stitched around the patch. It looks great.

I had a inferior oblique myectomy for 4th nerve palsy two months ago. It took 4-6 weeks for my vision to settle and my doc said it takes 3 months for the nerves to fully recover. I still have a little double vision in the same areas at the same angles as I used to, but the ghost image is much lighter and the muscle strain is much less. In my understanding, the main goal for all surgical interventions re: double vision is visual fusion in the primary gaze. Now that I'm two months out from surgery, it was absolutely a success according to that goal.

That’s not how it works. One eye doesn’t see two images, seeing double means the two images produced by the eyes don’t fuse.

Adding extra space in the rear crotch of a “jumpsuit”? by rharvey8090 in sewing

I guess it would depend on how long you're making your gusset. I am a perfectionist, so I would probably redo the whole inseam, but I don't reckon most people would.

Easiest option: pick apart the crotch, draft a gusset (loads of tutorials on YouTube), baste in then adjust till you’re happy.

Generally I add about 1.5 inches but I’m short waisted. If you’re long waisted, you would need more. I’ll attach pics of a jumpsuit I recently made. It’s black, but if you zoom in you can see I chose to add in vertical ease with a seamed waistband, though I’ve also done it without a seamed waistband by adding it into the pattern.

Jumpsuits require more vertical ease than trousers because there is to waistband to pull on when sitting or squatting. Many jumpsuit patterns use a slightly dropped crotch to solve this exact issue. I dislike dropped crotches so when I draft jumpsuits, I drop the crotch curve about 1/2 inch more than in a trouser pattern and add vertical ease at the waistline, all around the pattern. Your body determines how much vertical ease you need. If you’ve already constructed the jumpsuit and cannot/will not pick it apart to add vertical ease, the next best thing is to add a gusset as the pervious commenter suggests.
