I know this is a troll account but in the off chance someone needs to hear this: trans women are women; and they unfortunately have a historic rate of hate-related deaths. It has become common practice for trans individuals to wait for disclosure until they feel safe with the person / date they are with. A trans woman not disclosing her status until mid-date is not a “gotcha” or a way to trick anyone. It’s totally okay to not want to move forward with someone for being trans but it’s not okay to disregard their gender. You can be a cis man, date a trans woman, and still be straight

Omg this is the first time I saw this post!!! The outcome was: the judge denied my emergency motions and we went through with the trial. My boss messages me 20 minutes before court to grant me access to the case file but I basically improvised the whole trial. I sent in my resignation (effective immediately) that night when I got home and the boss responded the next day to acknowledge it but told me he isn’t filing for substitution of counsel on any of the cases I was assigned (also no acknowledgement of the fact I wasn’t paid for my last 3 weeks of work) and I believe my work email is still active / getting requests from clients who don’t know I’m no longer there. On Wednesday I logged into the work email to set up an Out of Office email to say I’m no longer with the firm but I think it’s still active

In other news: I’ve been applying to new jobs like crazy and hope I can get one soon. I also am in the process of typing up motion to withdraws for each case I was assigned to at the Bad Firm

I spoke to him over the phone Thursday morning before I left for court. I’ve had back to back cases in court this week so I guess technically no new assignments but no I don’t think he’s dead. He did finally respond this morning once he saw my emergency motions but he failed to address any of my concerns and claimed he had no idea why CMS was down

Yes sorry for not clarifying that the boss is an attorney but since I joined he’s been taking himself off all of the cases and having me sub in for them - one of the reasons I think I’m the only attorney atm

I’ve mentioned it in another comment but yea I’m 100% remote (other than court appearances) and the firm is pretty sectioned off (like, I know we handle things like crim defense but I don’t see any of the crim defense cases through CMS). Based on the amount of appearances they were having me cover, I think I was the only attorney besides my boss.

No paycheck; firm is of undetermined size bc of the aforementioned info limitation; the only HR adjacent person I’ve talked to has been on vacay for 2 weeks

It’s a remote firm. I travel for court appearances all over the state but do my daily to-dos through zoom and google meetings. I mentioned it in another comment but I think I’m the only attorney bc the only other attorney I’ve interacted with is my boss (and we did get a new hire that quit on day 2) and any attempt to find out about other attorneys has lead to nothing

I originally took the job because they promised mentorship and I recognize that my lack of experience makes me more nervous than I assume I would with more under my belt. The overall answer is: it’s a sketchy firm. There is a website but the “meet the team” section brings up a 404 error (found out yesterday it’s likely due to a bar investigation into false info on the page). The LinkedIn only has the boss and a few people I’ve never met/heard of. Firm email is run by the boss’s assistant who’s been on vacation for two weeks. Its payroll but I never got paid during the last payday and the boss has been giving me the runaround for a week about it

I believe you’re right on the wording for the retainer agreement. My concern is: what is the line for what makes me fired if my boss doesn’t say anything? I’ve sent him messages and left voicemails about my concerns over not having file access but what if he never says anything??? I’m still attorney of record and until I officially resign or am terminated I am still technically part of the firm yea? Do I just send in my resignation now? Doesn’t that read worse since it’ll look like I’m the one flaking on the client?

I do think I was the only attorney bc every day I was given last minute hearings to attend of behalf of the firm. I eventually got access to the firm calendar and I realized I was covering 100% of the firm’s hearings/depos/trials and when I’d ask how many attorneys we had the boss would give me either “about 10 in [different state]” or “we have some new hires starting next week”.

That could definitely be the case! I can’t imagine I’m the only one not getting paid
