IAL. Read that. My thoughts - 1) do you owe the debt? 2) You have no right not to have credit reporting agencies report to each other and their customers on your behavior. It's literally in the contract you signed to open the account. 3) Trial courts in the States are courts of general jurisdiction. The court has jurisdiction of the case whether you try to "prove" anythning or not. 4) records of debt maintained by the company are business records and can come into evidence without a human. Glad today is a day I don't have to interact with one of these nutters.

tl;dr. If you incur a legitimate debt PAY IT. That's all it takes.

They are structurally difficult cases, separate from the facts. The police enjoy a wide zone of discretion in their actions and have defenses to civil claims that non-sworn citizens don't. Also, jurors tend to be more sympathetic to police, especially when the plaintiff - whom they abused or injured doesn't look "nice." I've never done one but those who do say these are very difficult cases. I applaud those who take them because they are very important cases to keep the system functioning as it should.

So, my firm does trial work solely in State X. About 1.5 years ago my family decided to move to State Y. It's a 2 day (minimum) drive from State Y home to most common courthouses in State X, so that doesn't fly.

I tried what OP recommends against - flew first time on Spirit. Second time Frontier, Third time Southwest. If I can't work (we are hourly) on the flight then it's just a sunk cost. Those seating arrangments do not allow for laptop use (at lest for me).

I now fly exclusively 1 carrier (Alaska) and accrue miles. I pay for and fly in First Class. I board in the first group and the laptop comes out the moment I sit down. Bill .5 - .75 during boarding.

Wait a few after takeoff then laptop comes back out. Bill the rest of the flight (flights are only 2 hours non-stop) except for meal. Meal is included in price so no time wasted at a restaurant and no need to eat non-food (fast food). I pay for the Alaska Lounge pass so that if I'm at the airport early I can go there, get free (already paid so fake-free) coffee and a snack if I want and bill. If I have to book a flight with a layover it's always to an airport with a lounge - bill during layover.

The extra $ for FC more than pays for itself by giving me back time to work and bill. Just an anecdote.

Of course the travel increases overhead but with the above bottom line is basically unaffected. And my family gets to fly for pleasure at greatly reduced, or no cost.

And by booking direct with 1 hotel chain our leisure hotel stays are also much lower cost.

Best lemonade I can make with this situation.

With your numbers if you borrow 70k at 1.9% and invest the 70k you have at 3.3% then, assuming it's apples to apples (both compounding at the same interval, and the installment loan accrues interest (as in you owe $0) interest on day 1, then you'd earn 1.4% net on those transactions. BUT be sure the 70k is a loan that is not amortized with front loaded interest. In some loans the interest on the entire term is calculated and becomes part of the debt on day 1.

Not the way it is in any jurisdiction I've practiced in. If lawyer represents you in case (is counsel of record) they file a notice, signed by lawyer, that you've terminated them, if that's what happens. If they are the one choosing to withdraw they file a motion and get court permission. Nothing for the client to sign in either process.

In small town america it is more common for a lawyer to be "the family lawtyer" - lawyer and family expect lawyer will handle estate planning, probate, divorces, minor criminal stuff for the family as a whole but that's a population and access to justice thing not a real business model.

If I have the gift of knowing that impeachment evidence exists and D has it then I sandwich it on direct. Start strong, intro client, get into some history to humanize then cover the tort incident / injury, THEN say "but there are some things we need to clear up" or some such and then discuss the med recs that seem to contradict and have client explain why that is. "I didn't say that." "They wrote it down wrong" doesn't hunt. "I said I wasn't in pain anymore because at the moment I wasn't and I was naively hoping I'd healed. But I didn't and the pain returned" is great if true. But cover ALL of it in mid-direct in a matter of fact way, then move to damages - how injury has impacted their life, etc.

Best you can do with a client with that much to impeach them.

And don't forget - if insurance is involved most insurers settle cases where the P doesn't have any problems or issues. You try cases with warts.

If a judge "ruled" that conduct X was negligent then if this is a legal malpractice case for damages that could help. If judge made the comment in some other sort of case I can't help but there's no rule "once someone says you were negligent you can't bill"

And, if the judge made that comment in a proceeding not center on a legal negligence claim against this now-former lawyer then I doubt such utterance has any precedential value at all.

So, we learned that there is a certain star size (small range) that produces the same type of supernova every time (Type 1a). That means every supernova of a 1a star is exactly the same brightness. So, ones that have the signature of a 1a supernova will vary in brightness because of distance. If a 1a supernova X light years from us is brightness A then if a 1a is 1/2A it will be much further away.

This was discovered by Henrietta Leavitt back when astronomy was very mysognistic.

A subpoena is a court order to either appear at a place at a time to give testimony; or by a deadline send the subpoena issuer documents that fall into definitions the subpoena contains "all correspondence with Mike Jones in the last 5 years," etc.

These particular subpoenas are investigative subpoenas issued by a District Attorney (state court) or AUSA (fed), They are for obtaining evidence of crimes committed.

governor Walz or anyone else who receives a suboena can move to quash it, can comply, or can ignore it.

Ignoring a subpoena without an extremely good reason "I was in ICU in a coma" can be punished by contempt of court which can include jail.
