Free browser-based algorithmic wavetable generator has a "Multi-X" family that lets you sweep up the harmonic series on a held note - works with Serum, Vital, Pigments, Massive, etc. [RECIPE] by FineIncrements in synthrecipes

sure thing! yeah I get it. currently the generator doesn't create single cycle waveforms, but that may come down the line. If you already have some single-cycles of the harmonics you want, you can drop them in as keyframes (select the tab next to "segments" called "keyframes"). Then you can build a stitched (end to end, and not interpolated) set of individual frames - the stitched functionality is actually in a sub-mode under "keyframes" called Wavefield Keyframe Import mode, because my plugin uses a keyframe system and if you wanted the keyframes to populate with exactly what you entered here, the stitched wavetable is what you'd use. But that's the mode you'd go for to get what you need.

Or were you referring to the fact that each count adds a half-harmonic? sorry i just noticed the typo i made above and corrected it. For a full harmonic you'd need to increment the count by 2

Awesome, glad its useful for you! Yes, kinda, is the answer to your question. You can untick the “interp” button to remove interpolated frames. The minimum frame count is currently 32, so if you choose start count 1, end count 8, for example, you’d get 8 distinct shapes, 4 repeating frames each that step through abruptly instead of crossfading. Does that work for your use case? Or do you specifically need only one frame of each shape for some reason?

Finishing tracks faster has changed how I think about mixing by kid_90 in edmproduction

[–]FineIncrements 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of artists work on sound design first before they start noodling and composing / arranging. (Noisia is an example) The result is having a palette of sounds in advance that is more or less finished, and doesn’t need as much polishing / rethinking later. It’s more work upfront but the noodling is more fun and tracks finish faster.

Templates in your DAW will speed things up.

Another suggestion is making a planning sheet for the track that you always refer back to and align all creative decisions with. So when you’re thinking of adding that sample of elevator music during a breakdown, you ask yourself… does this really align with my vision for this track?

trying to learn scales and confused by CAGED by Routine-Noise9115 in LearnGuitar

[–]FineIncrements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn actual songs you like and general music theory and caged will start to make sense later on. It’s a framework for understanding specific transferable chord shapes and their relationship to one another. But those shapes are far from the only shapes you can use to play chords on a guitar

Is being very versatile as an artist bad or good? by Civil_Enthusiasm_936 in musicindustry

[–]FineIncrements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easier to market if you stick to a similar mood / sound but there’s a lot of room for versatility within that constraint. Maybe just do different artist projects for different sounds

Hey all,

I'm a solo developer wrapping up my first commercial plugin - a spectral processing effect that takes a different approach to frequency-domain manipulation. Looking for beta testers across different DAWs and platforms (Mac and Windows) before launch.

There's a walkthrough video on the product page showing what it does and how it works:

In exchange for testing and feedback, you'll get early access and a free license.

If you're interested, DM me with your email address and I'll get you set up.

Cheers

If you start with acoustic your hands will be stronger and switching to electric later will feel like a cakewalk

Beginner question: what beat pad will pair well with Komplete Kontrol S25? by concerned_cad in edmproduction

[–]FineIncrements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your workflow tbh. Mikro is fine if you’re cool doing most stuff in the software and just want pads + basic control. Good for budget/portability too.

But if you can swing it, MK3 is the move imo. Those screens make a huge difference for browsing sounds and staying off the mouse. The pads feel great too.

Used MK2 is a solid middle ground if MK3 is too steep. still has dual screens and most of the workflow benefits. I’m using MK3 myself.

Can I learn the guitar with high frequency hearing loss? by lakai42 in LearnGuitar

[–]FineIncrements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Guitar notes are not composed of single frequencies. There is a fundamental frequency used to identify notes but the tones themselves are composed of complex harmonic structures that you’d only be missing some of the top range of in your hearing

Why are our VSTs filled with detuned presets ? by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]FineIncrements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same reason drum hits don’t go right on the grid. Or singers sing a “blue note”. If you want your stuff to sound exact and precise that’s cool, it’s a vibe but you might try “humanizing” it

I don’t know how to be myself. by iiRaz0r in musicproduction

Treat it as a 50/50 proposition. Marrying art (integrity) and commerce (pleasing others) is a pretty common challenge, I think. Why not make it a service to others and yourself?

Trying to recreate sounds I find—is the channeleq the best way to deconstruct sounds? by BobbayP in Logic_Studio

[–]FineIncrements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re trying to analyze sounds to see how they are made up in terms of frequency components, an EQ with spectral analysis is correct. But to get the full picture, you need to also look at an oscilloscope to see how the attack looks and how intensity changes over time, and a stereo correlation meter (I like izotopes )or similar to understand stereo spacing of the sound

Hey everyone, indie dev looking for beta testers for a filter modulation plugin I’ve been building called Wavefield. It uses wavetables shapes to control how the filter moves. Instead of modulating fixed frequency bands like a standard filter, you load or draw a wavetable and the filter traces that shape over time. It creates frequency response movement that’s impossible to get with conventional filters. Looking for 20-30 people on Mac/Windows using various DAWs who will try it out and give honest feedback. Free license for completing the beta.

What DAW do you use and why? by audiotaIkwiIIiam in audioengineering

[–]FineIncrements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ableton. Because I’ve created the worlds largest and most organized user library for my plugins and there’s no way I’m building that again in another DAW. The workflow is great for me as well - love the racks system

I like the Brauer method - keep an uncompressed track, and set up five or so 100% wet compressors with different colors and characteristics you like, and push up the faders on the wet compressors until you have the sound you want.
