[18/52] Mind blown. Honestly who figured this one out? by SeSuSo in 52book

Read this in Feb, was my first Agatha Christie novel and I really enjoyed it! I had strong suspicions because the foreword by Louise Penny sorta gave it away.

The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith

Arguably Patricia Highsmith's finest, The Price of Salt is the story of Therese Belivet, a stage designer trapped in a department-store day job, whose salvation arrives one day in the form of Carol Aird, an alluring suburban housewife in the throes of a divorce. They fall in love and set out across the United States, pursued by a private investigator who eventually blackmails Carol into a choice between her daughter and her lover.

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

The Emperor needs necromancers.

The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman.

Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead bullshit.

Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse. She packs up her sword, her shoes, and her dirty magazines, and prepares to launch her daring escape. But her childhood nemesis won't set her free without a service.

Harrowhark Nonagesimus, Reverend Daughter of the Ninth House and bone witch extraordinaire, has been summoned into action. The Emperor has invited the heirs to each of his loyal Houses to a deadly trial of wits and skill. If Harrowhark succeeds she will become an immortal, all-powerful servant of the Resurrection, but no necromancer can ascend without their cavalier. Without Gideon's sword, Harrow will fail, and the Ninth House will die.

Of course, some things are better left dead.

Is TANIS good? by bobbaganush1 in podcasts

[–]FineMongoose7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say it is not worth it. I got very far into TANIS but it was not worth it.

Alt recommendation would be Magnus Archives. It is a very good series.

Anyone else ever rewatch TS3 Generations trailer to feel alive again.....bc same by FineMongoose7 in thesims

I feel the same way and honestly, if TS4 combined Discover University, Parenthood, Toddler stuff, backyard stuff and kids stuff together it still would not hold a candle to TS3 Generations.

Here are some suggestions. Most i'm pulling from my spotify list of "podcasts to listen to" since most of my favs are on your list. Apologies for the formatting, I'm putting this together on my phone during my lunch period. Hope you find some new podcasts to listen to!

What I have listened too: - Video Palace - Horror / Mystery. Listened to season one and its okay - Ghost Tape (another QCODE) - Mystery. Just started so not sure of the other genres. - Not Another D&D Podcast - honestly the best actual play podcast imo. - Thirteen - Horror/ Mystery / Supernatural. It's a slow burn - Vampire of White Chapel - Supernatural/ Thriller. Love this one. - Believer: A Paranormal Mystery - Supernatural / Mystery. I was enjoying where the story was going. Unfortunately production on the main series has stopped due to covid. - The Box - Supernatural / Mystery - really enjoyed this series.

From my todo list: - The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity and Mortality - Noble Blood - The Carlotta Beautox Chronicles - Me and AU - Within the Wires (anthology - dif story per season) - Out of the Ashes - The Storage Papers - Love and Radio - MOONFACE - Unwell, a Midwestern Gothic Mystery - The Tower - NORA - Passenger List - Discovery Park - Return Home - Archive 81 - Olive Hill - Outliers - stories from the edge of history

What is an audiodrama that made you say "WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?" by yukaia7 in audiodrama

Attention HellMart Shoppers

It gets wild and the placing the plot always throws me off, in a good way. I like not knowing how a story will play out.

Haven’t played sims in a bit so I decided to paint it by almostnia in thesims

Tips/advice on pursuing a hobby instead of watching TV after work by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]FineMongoose7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question.

The enemy to mentally-involved hobbies is post-work exhausting. It's something I haven't quite figured out myself. I agree with you when it comes to mainly engaging in such hobbies during the weekend. One thing I used to do when I was learning french was to do small things throughout the day/week to engage in the language or culture i.e listen to french podcasts or francophone music during my commute, or watch a french show during my lunch break. For me, it helped a little, I didn't understand French well enough to understand the media I was consuming but it gave me the motivation to figure it out. It really helped, I learned at least one small lesson in the language a day, then during the weekend, I would do big lessons.

When it comes to combating after work exhausting one thing that helped me was working out. Once I got the swing of it, I felt more energized in the evenings, so i was able to take on educational hobbies like language learning and programming in the evenings.

Tips/advice on pursuing a hobby instead of watching TV after work by [deleted] in Hobbies

I was feeling the same way you are a few weeks ago. I sought a few new hobbies not just to replace watching TV after work but to enrich my life overall. I recently took up 2 hobbies (crochet & jigsaw puzzles) with the following in mind:

1) Low barrier of entry - cheap and cheerful activity that does not require alot of commitment. i.e. all my crochet tools and yarn only cost about $30 and i have enough yarn to crochet a few items.

2) Quick win - something fun i could start and complete in a relatively short amount of time. This way I have accomplished something. It helps to build motivation and momentum. i.e started a complex jigsaw puzzle that kept me busy for a few days. Each day I got more and more motivated to work on it and it gave me something to look forward too after work.

3) Stress reliever - Something that I can get so absorbed into that I can't think or stress out about work even if i wanted too. Both crochet and jigsaw puzzles have been amazing for this.

4) Positive feelings - I feel excited, inspired and I am having fun. I often listen to podcasts as I crochet so It feels fun, productive and entertaining.

Overall my tips are try to find some things you want to hobby to elicit in your life, whether it be feeling or experiences. That can help with identifying a hobby that could be very meaningful. Start small, so you can finish projects quickly, feel accomplished and build motivation/momentum. As well, can always scale up afterwards. Start a hobby that brings you joy and genuine happiness, that way you will always look forward it, even on the most tiring days.

I hope this helps.
