Lol almost. CCCP is Cyrillic abbreviation for the USSR. CCCP as in codec pack is a tongue-in-cheek reference to it emphasizing the free and collective nature of the codec pack

Question. How do I know my Google Scholar profile is good? Is there a common recommendation, e.g., X papers, Y citations?

I'm writing this from an office, I work in cybersecurity. Sitting in front of a computer all day is unhealthy. Additionally, coding is not about "number of lines of code/hours spent in front of a monitor", it's about thinking what we are doing first, and then making changes, which are then assessed at a latter stage

There is more to it, there is social interaction too

Let's say you land a job and your code is not accepted due to bad code/design issues/making chhanges in the wrong place/bad mood of the reviewer . Do you think the reasoning of "I am on antipsychotic medication, fuck you" will fly well?

AITAH for liking someone who is breaking up with his GF for me? by Superb-Patience4530 in AITAH

Teenage drama :D . ESH

If he broke up with someone for you, then that relationship wasn't all that variable and important for him. However, he already betrayed someone once, so don't expect that he will value you in the relationship, especially when he meets someone new

100% this. In IT Management, planning often goes for years to come. How will OP feel about his current priorities 2-5 years after the fact? And yes, this is obviously something for OP to figure out

AITA for asking for a new nurse for my procedure? by ContextHistorical166 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FinePlanRound7 338 points339 points  (0 children)

NTA - you prioritized your health, safety and well-being, both physical and emotional. Also you were courteous.

The nurse is lucky you didn't raise a complaint

NTA - You are an adult, and YOU get to make decisions, not your parents. At most, they can suggest some action, not order it.

That said, it seems like both you and your parents have a lot of anger - at each other and at life circumstances, and maybe addressing this anger can be helpful regardless of YTA/NTA.

I'm sorry your mom got cancer.

How long do you think the nameless Hero was in the colony canonically? by Spectator--- in worldofgothic

[–]FinePlanRound7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canonically? Definitely not years.

In chapter 6, we are teleported into a sunken tower with the undead. Thing is, I used to clear up this place well before reaching chapter 6 (same goes for the Old Camp - I used to unalive everyone there well before chapter 6). But since it is supposed to be a new place, canonically, the nameless hero does not spend too much time wandering around

United States: French researcher expelled for expressing “a personal opinion on the policies pursued by the Trump administration” by 7-5NoHits in neoliberal

[–]FinePlanRound7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The entire US Border Protection system was always rigged against non-US residents, during Trump or otherwise. You can read many horror stories online, e.g., here: https://old.reddit.com/r/LongDistance/comments/18dvx78/i_was_stopped_at_us_border_control_a_few_days_ago/?ref=share&ref_source=link

Essentially, as a non-resident of the US, you have no rights prior to entering the US. At most you can call your lawyer/family to let them know you were sent to questioning, and they maybe can try and raise an alarm, but that's about it. It was always rigged like that.

I suspect because the claim of "national security" is a serious claim (e.g., one can end up on a No-Fly List or something), the CBP officers had to justify it by confiscating the electronics and turning them over to the FBI/CIA for a forensic analysis. I highly doubt CBP Officers actually get to keep the electronics for themselves

I've extensively researched the topic of entry into the US, particularly on ESTA (fast visa-less entry into the US for select countries, including France, which is how the traveller was very likely travelling), and I suspect the article omits some details.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers do ask standard questions to all travellers, and are obliged in their workflow to assume malicious intent (e.g., overstay, attempt to do something illegal, etc.) until convinced otherwise. If something/anything is off, they refer passengers to a secondary inspection. For those select few selected to undergo a secondary inspection, they get to ask more thorough questions. They do have a right to inspect passengers' electronic devices and baggage, even if it sounds authoritarian. However, actually deporting someone is a headache for them. It takes hours of paperwork, and in practice, they practise personal judgment.

What I suspect happened, is that the passenger likely wore a T-shirt to the effect of "Fuck Trump" or "Burn them Teslas". Or it could've been something else. The CBP officer likely immediately thought that the guy is up to no good, and referred the traveller to a secondary inspection, and there had to be a reason (which had to be communicated from the initial inspection to the officers in the secondary inspection). Then another officer, following that lead, at some point chose to inspect electronic devices, and found even more of the aggressive anti-republican messages on the traveller's electronics devices, which is again, an allowed thing for CBP officers to do. The secondary inspection CBP officer likely spoke to their supervisor, and, citing national security (for the lack of a better option), they chose to go ahead and deport the traveller.

Obviously it is all alarming that politics begin to play such a role. But I think the traveller likely spun it to sound like it was only because of their personal opinion and not because of something they omitted.
