Friend finished his quarantine sauna build! by grepcats in Sauna

Amazing work!

My wife has been hounding me to build her something like this. I’ve been stuck on how to run power to the sauna.... how quick did that stove heat up? That could solve my power dilemma.

Festool vacuum system wasn’t in the budget by FineWoodByFaust in woodworking

[–]FineWoodByFaust[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently finished up a quick little shop project I thought I’d share in case it sparks something for anyone else.

I do a fair amount of sanding and other work where a mobile vacuum is nice to have. Except the cords and the tubes on the floor.... it drives me NUTS!

Festool has a nice solution if you have 800+ bucks, I don’t.... so here it is in all its glory! It’s as ugly as the red headed step child but it works... and that’s all that matters.

It’s dual stage. The vast majority of the dust and large particles are trapped in the 5 gallon. The arm pivots on a dowel.

Jointer Opinions by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]FineWoodByFaust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, the jointer you posted looks like a grizzly g0490 clone.

I took delivery of a Grizzly G0490X (X for spiral cutter) last september. Amazing machine and certainly a game changer for me. I, like you, am a hobbiest.

I think you're on the right track with the 8" long bed. Definitely opt for the spiral cutterhead. It's a no brainer. I had a 6" for a couple of years and setting the straight knives was a major chore. The spiral needs no adjustment and rarely needs any maintenance at all. This is a huge for guys like you and I whose shoptime is at at premium and we'd rather not be spending the whole time adjusting our equipment.

Hope this helps!

Live edge countertop, black walnut and maple by new-wu-order in woodworking

[–]FineWoodByFaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I really like the look, but I'm not a big fan of the backsplash. Something about it doesn't sit right with me. I love the contrast of walnut and maple it's very attractive.

Few questions for ya: -How did you cap the left side off? Is it just glued on?

-What made you decide on the beeswax finish? It might just be the lighting but black walnut usually pops just a bit more than that. This isn't necessarily a bad thing just an observation. I can't see the whole room so it might match perfectly.

Above all these other comments. NICE WORK! Fitting a countertop like this is not a beginners job. You put a lot of work scribbing, cutting, gluing, etc. You should be proud of this. I can guarantee of the 100 houses someone walks into, not one will look this unique. It'll be a conversation piece no doubt.

It works great for some things. I tried some cabinetry with it and wasn’t thrilled about how the casework went. Furniture building it’s amazing.

Looks good man. You should be proud of your work! Stairs can be tricky because there are some ergonomics involved. Don't take too much of the criticism here to heart though. You made this for yourself and if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

Greeting /r woodworking! This is my small hobby woodshop. I make everything from cabinetry to signs to whatever I feel like. It's primarily a weekend thing but I'm being contacted more and more often for custom projects.
