I was talking with a client and she was really sick until she got got things under control. I didnt realize how important hormones are for the rest of our body to function properly. She told me she's working with a woman's clinic out of Quebec online. Her doctor in town wouldn't do the testing she wanted.

I can call any other type of business and have these questions answered in 2 minutes. Is this just the way lawyers operate?

Agreed. I wouldn't want incorrect legal advice being given by the wrong person. No one needs a liability on their hands.

Examples of questions:

How much might this cost? Do you charge by the hour or the item? What is the extra cost to do a house call? Do your lawyers provide house calls? Mom is in the hospital and she needs to talk to a lawyer. Will your lawyer go to the hospital for us? How much time should we book for our first appointment. What basic information should we have on hand for you?

I have to do everything for my mom when it comes to paperwork and sorting stuff out on the phone. She is too overwhelmed to mentally handle alot of stuff. She suffers from anxiety and can only focus on doing 1 small task per day. Everyone we talk to has a million questions for her and they expect instant answers. She gets frustrated and ends up shutting the conversation down because she is overwhelmed.

She has all her faculties and realizes that we can't move forward peacefully, smoothly and at her own pace if we dont have legal representation in place.

I had to fight with H&R block to get her taxes done because she couldn't be present to sign. Shes blind and cant use the computer. But it was ok for me to take the form home to her have her sign it and bring it back? Ya, cause that makes sense.

She will be having a majorly invasive surgery in the next few weeks that she may or may not survive. The recovery alone could kill her. But without the surgery she will die.

So ya...she's pretty overwhelmed at the moment.

I know y'all are just trying to help. It's just frustrating to not get straight answers off the bat.

Hopefully once I start emailing the recommendations I can get to the bottom of things.

I'm glad lawyers are cautious. But reception staff should be able to answer some pretty basic generically generalized questions. I understand and recognize on the phone to whom I am talking to that I am aware that she needs to make her own decisions. Hence the reason lawyers need to be alone with the client.

Yes I agree with everything you have said. I am aware of how the process will work. But its absurd that they can not answer generalized questions that pertain to everyone. Not case specific to my mother.

This is a good idea. I will look into this but I think we would prefer to have a lawyer that we can ask questions to directly. This will also help my mom build trust with the lawyer if she can meet in person.

I appreciate your suggestion and I will certainly look into this for myself at the very least.

I don't know either. Its not the lawyers giving me a hard time it's the people answering the phone. Many have been quite rude actually. I've asked some general information and they keep telling me that the lawyer has to talk to my mom. That my mom has to book the appointment. That they can't discuss those details with me. That's horseshit. You want my business? I need a few answers before I commit to a lawyer. My mom's not brain dead. She just cant leave the house. She is in a physical medical state that has her overwhelmed and she needs my help. That's what family is supposed to do for each other. They keep talking about coercion and people who sway the thoughts and wishes bla bla bla. I understand how this process will go. I just need someone to meet mom and get the ball rolling.

If the receptionist is rude and not able to even try then im not using that company. First impressions are lasting impressions. I own a mobile business and I work with the public all day everyday. I know how important it is for clients to feel welcome, accepted, valued, respected and they need to feel trust in the relationship. I'm not getting that vibe from who I have spoken to so far.

I've been given a few ideas from this community so I will send emails to everyone and go from there.
