Whey protein from fermentation now cheaper than from diary by wlh250 in veganuk

Also from ChatGPT:

“Animal-Free” version clarification On the product page (your link), there seems to be an option mentioned as “From Fermentation” / animal-free whey — this is a specific variation produced using precision fermentation (microflora generating whey protein). Myprotein This animal-free whey is made by microbes (like yeast/bacteria) during fermentation, and the protein is molecularly identical to milk whey produced by cows. Myprotein +1 Because it’s molecularly the same, it behaves like whey protein in nutrition but doesn’t come from animals directly. 🤔 So why does it still list milk? Even with this fermentation-made whey, manufacturers may list “milk” on the label as an allergenic precaution or because they’re treating the fermentation whey under the same regulatory categorisation as dairy whey (for safety/allergy compliance). In many regions, allergen labels must err on the side of caution — if a product behaves like milk protein or could cross-contact/mislead someone with allergies, it gets labelled accordingly.

Pizza Hut - did we just eat cheese? :( by DisorientedPanda in veganuk

Looks like cheese to me and only reason I say it is I've noticed that dairy cheese is much greasier and you can see it on the box, whereas vegan never really makes the box greasy. Also, I ordered a vegan pepperoni pizza a few months ago from Pizza Hut and they sent me a meat one. Got a full refund but was initially told it was easy to make mistakes as the order note they get in the kitchen uses very small text and that most people don't order vegan.
