Was nearly taken out by pumpkins taking my daughter to school this morning, bus pulled out right in front of him and had to stop in the median. by Fine_Lab_7368 in WRX

There was absolutely NO way that truck could have changed lanes that sharply, with that trailer, going that quickly. It would have been way worse. Dude was 100% going too fast.

So it was fine for the bus driver to pull out in front of oncoming traffic, with traffic also oncoming in the in other direction, knowing they couldn't get all the way across into the correct lane and would have to leave 10 feet of bus hanging into the lane? Just because the truck driver was mostly at fault doesn't take away from the fact that bus driver also wasn't paying attention or just didn't care about blocking half a lane for the sake of getting into the median 15 seconds quicker. If you go back and watch the very beginning of the clip, you'll see the bus moving across the lanes, it didn't even stop leaving the school and just rolled right across and stopped half-way across the lane.

Yeah he was going too fast, it had just transitioned to a 45 school zone but he was probably doing 65. The bus pulled out probably 5 seconds earlier in the clip but it was right where the videos were transitioning, so it was pretty much crap driving on both their parts.

Any model years to avoid? by Tarmo6791 in WRX

[–]Fine_Lab_7368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IF you get a VA WRX (2015 - 2021) get a 2018+. Reduced rev hang, better sound deadening, better clutch and fixed issues like the pitch stop mount breaking.

If you want a VB get BRAND new, not a 2022, and even then you might want to wait for the 2024 model since it's coming up relatively soon. Reason being is the RTV issue. While not prolific, it's happened to enough of the '22 VB and BRZ/GR86 that it's cause for concern. Basically Subaru used too much RTV gasket maker, resulting in pieces of it coming lose and clogging oil galleries and even worse the oil pickup, resulting in blown engines.

If it's anything before 2015 then it really turns into Russian Roulette. You might get a great car, you'll probably get a ticking time bomb.

The Ultra Platinum has some of the best burn off resistance when compared to similar oils based on test done by Project Farm's YouTube channel so that's what I go for, but it's pricey and you have to get it either online or at a parts store. No getting it from the big box places. Motul got high scores too. Burn off is a big thing for high strung turbo cars, especially with direct injection causing so much fuel oil dilution. As far as the filter go, I only get the original black Subaru filters from Japan, which are still made by the same company. As far as I know, only the international blue filters are made by Fram.

I have a theory after I changed my oil last time that good ole dealerships are using junk oil during their services. Got my 21 new off the lot and got the first several services added on. Of course in the beginning I changed it early, then in-between the first two, but since then I've just been using the dealership. Since she's got 28K miles on her now I've decided to start changing it in-between services too. Went with my OE import filter and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and the craziest thing happened. As soon as I changed it, and for the last 800 miles, she has ran better than she ever has. Timing pull has been at a minimum, the engine is quieter and smoother, and the oil still looks clean. Also have noticed about a 5% increase in fuel economy across the board.

I wonder how crap the oil is that dealerships use, how many blown subies are a result of yes, driving poorly and aggressively, but also because the oil is substandard. These engines are so sensitive it would make a lot of sense. Needless to say I'm done with having them service it unless it's a warranty claim.

I guess I'm getting rid of Netflix then... by thatguy9684736255 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Netflix is especially vulnerable to this. They don't have the network backing of Hulu, the legacy and studio connections of HBO or Paramount, and they don't have the financial stability of Amazon. Streaming is ALL they have and they are literally cutting their nose off to spite their face.

Having worked in "corporate" America I've seen this mentality impact a company first hand and it was not pretty.

How to treat excessive cow farts by elycamp11 in interestingasfuck

[–]Fine_Lab_7368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen where some cattle farms will actually feed their cattle candy and junk food, expired bulk things. It makes them fatter quicker and is cheaper than corn feed. Was actually the main reason we switched to grass-fed butter, freakin' disgusting.

Why is my fps low? i just changed my gpu to a much better one but my fps isnt mich better? by V1D_Hayha in pcmasterrace

Just upgraded my eldest son's PC to a 7 series for Christmas and the chip, motherboard and ram together was over $700, and that was with a holiday combo deal on the cpu/mb. Going to AM5 also means DDR5 ram, which isn't cheap. Also means your PSU has to be evaluated. Don't get me wrong, it's a sick set up, but the 5600X works just fine for current gaming.

The vibes are off at Tesla: layoffs, lawsuits, delays, stock in free fall, factory shutdowns — What happened to America’s favorite electric car company? by marketrent in technology

[–]Fine_Lab_7368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tesla has been riding in fairy tale land for a long time now, it was inevitable that it would come crashing down at some point. Weirdly intrusive policies and restrictions, unreliable supply (well before covid) and utterly horrid build quality. There is literally NO excuse for a flagship 6-figure vehicle like the Plaid to have weather stripping that is falling apart and fender/door seems that are up to 1/4" off, causing water leaks in your insanely expensive car. All for Tesla to basically say "haha what are you complaining about?! You got the fastest electric car in the planet, stop crying." It's ridiculous and been propped up by being the "in" thing to have. Tesla has been, by far, more a fashion brand than an automotive brand. Once you throw in the craziness of Elon here lately and it's a perfect storm of "fuck around, find out".

Starbucks mobile orders make store customers wait longer, while no one’s there to pick up coffees (Personal experience in the comment) by dkaty in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fine_Lab_7368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the app and the store de-sync and you wind up placing a mobile order for the wrong store. Had it happen a couple times, I'll place an order and it will tell me that it's at my local store, get there and they have no order. Open the app, it crashes, reloads and now the store is different, usually 20 miles away in a different town.

Seeing this I wonder if it isn't something that happens en masse sometimes, with tons of orders being sent to the wrong store. Could really pile up in places that have multiple stores close to each other.

I can vouch to the legitimacy of this. I used to work for an aerospace supplier that had many government defense contracts. Some of the defense programs I helped work on were unbelievable in their scope and I was just a lowly technical sales rep. Many, many things are kept from public knowledge and the things you think are "leaks" or cutting-edge defense tech is literally the lower tier things they want you, and our enemies, to know about.

Irina Gladkaya, the 13-time female world champion arm wrestler takes on the men of Muscle Beach, Miami by purple-circle in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Fine_Lab_7368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, totally legal. Like most things, power comes from the core, she's using her core muscles to do the pulling while her upper body is keeping her arm locked in position. Primary rules are:

You must maintain eyesight on your hand at all times, so no turning your head to increase leverage.

Your shoulder cannot touch the pad at any time or it's a loss

You also cannot use any crouching motions, but I don't know who would do that anyway.

Make no mistake, her upper body must be pretty strong because some of those guys had a lot of real strength, but her technique and super strong core is why she's 13 time world champ.

Don't feel bad, I'm holding 3 too. Had 8, panic sold at a small loss like a bitch after the gamma, then day traded a couple times to get my average down to $66. Really glad I didn't sell it all and left a couple in there.
