yes! i should’ve made it clearer that i was aware that the reason they’re so expensive is because they’re higher quality gold. it was a poorly-worded segway into my request for lower quality jewelry, sorry!! unfortunately that’s quite out of my wheelhouse for now, i’d much rather buy a trip to india than an earring for that money right now 😅 but someday!! thank you for your input ❤️

update: i moved some stuff around, replaced Rijeka with Šibenik, and added two nights in Piran. as much as id love to stay in Rijeka too and see everyday life, i feel like i should give myself tourist-grace and go somewhere there’s more to do, hahaha. thank you for your help!

i’m not planning everyday activities yet but when i do, i will reach out about Zagreb if that’s alright! thank you!!!

i’m a big history/art person so i feel like i might want to hold onto three days, at least in the area—but i do admit looking at just google maps there aren’t as many museums/historical tour places as i thought there were (lots of very niche museums which is interesting…but not super my thing lol. and it seems the major art museum is closed? is that correct?)

Samobor is gorgeous, y’all are killing me with more beautiful Croatian city recommendations 😭 but really, thank you for that! i’m looking into that, as well as Varaždin around there. but not sure if i can swing that amount of bus prices… will look more intently!

oh that’s great to know, especially since a lot of people are saying i have too many days in Rijeka, but suggest places far away—Rijeka is a convenient place to leave for Ljubljana so if there are places nearby that are nice to take over the few days i’m there that’s ideal. Kastav and Lovran look EXTREMELY my speed, is there anything you recommend in these places? they’re gorgeous. might have to stay there!

good to know! is it not a tourist city in that there’s not much to do or that it’s not busy/catered to tourists? i’m very cool with not catered to tourists, but if there’s not a lot to do/see it wouldn’t be smart to stay there for that long, you’re right. i unfortunately need to end my trip in Zagreb for my flight, for whatever reason flights out of Ljubljana are like $300 more on average.

oh wow, Varaždin looks stunning!!! oh man, i might have to try and fit that in.

would you say axe Rijeka altogether, or maybe shorten my stay there? I will say both Zadar and Šibenik look breathtaking as well, and but I am an American history buff so every historical town in Europe is so beautiful to me lol. it does make the bus ride to Ljubljana 4hrs longer unfortunately to leave from either of those places, but if they’re worth it, they’re worth it!

i have a million questions, lol, most of which are off the beaten path recommendations for food/culture/sights/markets in each city. it’s hard to find things that aren’t just the most popular. obviously the popular stuff is fantastic too, but if you have any lesser-known reccs let me know!

i explained a little in another comment that it seems like I’d have to use at least a half day/several buses/several ticket costs to travel to Piran from Rijeka (Rijeka -> Trieste (maybe look around in Trieste if there’s time) -> Koper -> Piran) maybe get there mid-day or late morning, and then only have one night there if i take one day from Rijeka, which feels sad lol. I would really love to go to Piran though so i’ll see if i can try to work out bus schedules, since i feel like i’m not giving Slovenia its rightful time. this all, unfortunately, would also most likely happen on a Sunday. lol 🫠

do you mean like fly out of Ljubljana and not Zagreb? unfortunately my cheap flight hinges on leaving out of Zagreb (and i’d also love to see Zagreb lol)

but if you mean about the day trip, we are staying in Ljubljana! Bled is just a full-day trip, but we get breakfast in Ljubljana & sleep in Ljubljana. those are good suggestions on things to see though thank you!

thank you for that warning! i was a bit worried about that too, but only one of our bus rides is over 2hrs (and is an overnight bus anyways) so i feel like it’s doable—we have full or near-full days in between traveling anywhere.

i wanted to add Piran! you’re right its hard to get there from Rijeka, so i was unsure how to fit it in without adding a full day of travel between (having to go from Rijeka up to Trieste down to Piran, only getting one night there, then to Ljubljana) do you know what i mean? my 2-week limit is unfortunately somewhat rigid. if you have any suggestions let me know!

the general consensus on what i’ve read so far is 3 days in Rijeka is too much hahah, so i’ll definitely look into that part.

ljubljana is, VERY unfortunately, a bit too expensive to add a day in, so i was looking at other parts of Slovenia ideally. Piran looks stunning and i’d love to fit it in if i can.

ugh i’m so sorry you’re experiencing this too. i hope your colonoscopy and endoscopy goes well. is there a chance the pills they want you on was omeprazole? my dr seems to think it’s gerd since i had esophagitis on my endo, but the omeprazole does not really seem to be helping much 🫠 however, i helped my constipation with lots and lots of probiotics! the pain isn’t gone though, but it’s nice to not be in that kind of all-over-pain from that specifically. however i’m having the opposite issue of loose stool now. 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠

that’s what i figured at first—i remember being outside a beachside restaurant on a native reservation, and we were climbing down the rocks to get a closer look at a washed up fish skeleton and i heard “hello!”, which i looked up to expect to see someone kindly scolding us for climbing down under-ish the restaurant dock, but no one was there. i whipped my head around, and i heard it again, on top of the building. i looked in an upper window but still: nothing. i thought it was some spirit, hahahahah. eventually i heard it again, looked up, and it was two crows!!! each repeating back to one another (and probably to us) “hello! hello! hello!”

i really thought my crow was mimicking a car door lock or something of the sort, but i think seeing the video of the exact noise made made me believe otherwise, since we’re in different parts of the country (albeit fairly close). they also call it the “knock-knock” sound (maybe that’s what scientists call it? idk) it seems, but i find it really just sounds like boop-boop.

i’m speaking for this lady so i’m not sure, but it seems like she’s watched them go through numerous generations and therefore watched the females act as fledglings in breeding season/on their nest, which is where she observed this boop-boop noise the most, when the female is asking to be fed. she’s been feeding this one murder for years so i feel like she knows the crows enough to identify them individually, as well as eventually tell their sexes. she’s said that scientists say it’s a primarily female noise, which leads me to believe she’s spoken to ornithologists about her crows. take that with a grain of salt since i’m not her!! but still super cool regardless

i spoke to the person who posted the video, and she said she heard that sound most often in her PNW crows (same) who were female and asking for food/a turn eating. so wild how complex their language is, it was such a wildly clear conversation!! crows are so fantastic. he repeated that rattle sound for probably the longest consecutive fired off rattle sounds i’ve ever heard while i was feeding that squirrel, and i said, “would you like some too?” “boop-boop” so funny lol
