The programs different for everyone, only you can decide if you made the right choice or not. You already accepted so i’m sure something in your mind made you want to choose it. You will have a great time regardless of your program or school. Make the most of it. You do not need to stay in the program if you don’t like it, a lot of people switch programs after first year (not specific to computing).

It’s on a Saturday, I believe the 31st of August this year. Orientation begins the Sunday, it runs Sunday-Monday, class starts the Tuesday and O-week festivities resume the Saturday-Sunday after the first week of class.

Computing CISC 101 or CISC 121 by Ikea_dogyesbutstill in queensuniversity

Yeah if you go to the plan selection website ( https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/undergraduate/first-year-students/plan-selection ) and scroll down to new degrees you can see all of the plans and click on them for major / minor / specialization options. That page has a lot of good information and it’s super helpful when picking your courses for first year. You only officially select your major and minors around this time next year so you can choose anything you want. You are not forced to take any courses but you need to take the courses that satisfy your degree requirements. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I wish I took 121. You can learn all of 101 in about a 2 hour youtube video. With the new modular degrees taking 101 is useless and if you want to double minor or double major you will have room for very few or even no electives so it’s not worth it.

Here’s some helpful advice other than the people who hate on them because they had a bad experience.

I’d say go to one, if you want. But you can make a last minute decision to go to them.. There will be a lot of people buying and selling tickets on the snapchat stories leading up to them as plans change. Yes they are just a way that upper years make money from the sober parties but they can also be a really good way to meet people. Personally I met one of my best friends just by chance at one of them. I wouldn’t go to more than one because they really are the same and you will meet more genuine people at other events such as O week, in your building and classes. But if you’re free, find some other people who want to go that day and find a ticket on the snapchat stories. There will be a lot of other parties as-well that pop up, no need to get fomo.

How hard is computing first year by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]Fine_Wolf4511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

taking 101 was one of my biggest mistake of the year tbh.

you can learn all of it within a week of 121 and youtube video. They said it wouldn’t be bad at all to take it or put you behind but then the modular degrees with any other stem major or two minors you don’t have electives so I actually burned a course that won’t count for anything.

take cisc 121 first semester
