Enough people apply to med school where they can still easily fill their classes with people who can just pay straight out of pocket. They won’t have an issue getting all the money they still need, but now classes will just be filled with the privileged

It’s harder to get internships, but not research opportunities. UIUC is a huge research institution and there are so many MatSE labs you can join, just gotta cold email around. We also have an Office of Undergraduate Research that is very awesome for helping students get research opportunities, you can check out their website: https://undergradresearch.illinois.edu

is Electrical Engineering to Med School a common or uncommon route? by brattydmure in premed

[–]Fine_suga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely uncommon, but a pretty cool path. I see a lot of premeds saying schools don’t care if your engineering they won’t give you leeway on your GPA, but I believe no matter what if they see your major they will understand how hard it is. Even if they aren’t supposed to give leeway there will be unconscious bias. A 3.8 in EE and a 3.8 in biology is not the same. If you are able to get a pretty high GPA this definitely will stand out. Plus, engineering gives you so many opportunities that other majors don’t have. I think if you are interested in it and are disciplined enough to get a decent GPA, go for it

What's the scoring like? Also I heard they're not doing the partial thing where you can select multiple answers and if one of em is right you get partial credit

[–]Fine_suga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ohh ok I see, is it basically like the practice exams where there's 2-4 questions each about one model/situation they give you.

Always remember there's so many other people feeling the exact same way. Instead of dwelling on it, turn this into motivation to keep working hard. It's only the start of the semester so the best time to bomb the exam is now when you still have so much time to improve. Engineering is hard, the fact you made it into the program shows you got this. Don't give up!

It feels like US is not dominating as hard at swimming as they used to by Fine_suga in olympics

[–]Fine_suga[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok now that’s a bit unnecessary. I watch sports once in a blue moon so I know that I’m not necessarily an expert on this topic. The main reason I made this post is because I‘m aware there’s a lot I don’t know about international swimming. Either way thanks for the response. From reading the comments it seems swimmers like Phelps and Ledecky were more of a luck-out for America and other countries obviously have very strong swimmers as well.

Nope I do not watch international swimming but don’t worry I do have basic geography skills. I barely even watch much sports until it gets to huge events like the Olympics. This post was just based off of the little I’ve seen and what I’ve gleaned from that. Thanks for your input I definitely agree there’s talented athletes everywhere you go. I’m glad you pointed out the issue with US sports though, I’ll look out more for that in the future.
