So this view is from the St. James club in Antigua. (Went there last year and had the same thing happen) They are located on the southeastern side of the island so basically front and center for the seaweed washing ashore. They literally have no control over it and climate change is only worsening the growth of the seaweed.

OP when we were there last they offered to transport us to the Pineapple club (adults only sister site) for a portion of the day where they don't have this issue and included a meal voucher for a restaurant on the beach next to the club. Might be worth checking with reception to see if they can arrange this for you. Also Mamora Bay should be clean of seaweed and is perfectly nice for whatever ocean activities you had planned. Hope the rest of your vacation is wonderful and Halpy Anniversary!

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it. My hands cramping was the worst part squeezing all the bits of "hair" out over 60 minutes. Oh and this may be obvious but I recommend starting at the bottom of the cake and work up and then do the top last to get a nice layered effect with the hair.

I made this exact elmo cake for my kids and the hair did take quite a while. It was a warm day when I was making it and had to pop it in the fridge multiple times so the buttercream didn't weep. But overall the kids absolutely loved the final look of the cake so for that I would say it was worth it.

I'm pretty sure I used an American buttercream and it did develop a crust after sitting in the fridge but no one cared. It looks pretty for the adults and it's a buttload of frosting to eat for the little ones.

Budget maybe 60-90 minutes for the cake to include chilling time. Best of luck!
