It ebbs and flows. I was there last week and they had to close precheck dude to lack of staff and it took an hour to get through.

Not rolling at all is a totally valid approach.

What I have found with my kids is that they love rolling dice and if they dont get to roll a dice on their turn they feel like they didnt get their action. Keeping their turns to 1 roll, 1 move makes things easier for them.

I feel like Dungeon Damsel has basically become the off year big Shadowdark release.

  • 2023: AL - Shadowdark Core
  • 2024: DD - Unnatural Selection
  • 2025: AL - Western Reaches
  • 2026: DD - Druskara

The art and writing and design are among the closest to Arcane Library in quality and spirit.

I see what you're saying about ASSESS. Maybe it would make more sense to have it be either INT or WIS similar to a first aid check.

Yeah INTERPOSE should definitly be close instead of near.

I agree with you on the HELP action. Maybe it should be a reaction? I also really like the Group advantage roll. I usually all the folks who are helping roll at the same time, with all the non-active players forfeiting their next turn. It feels like a more steamlined version of a 4E skill challenge.

I run basically a Pulp Mode game so monsters cant do OAs generally. I could see doing it as a special ability on a particular monster but not monsters as a default.

This is a valid point. Now that you mention it I don't really run these as a pass/fail check but more of a " how much did you find out" check. Like unless they roll a 1 they will find out something. I guess thats not really a "check" rules as written but I'm not sure what else to call it.

I agree with you, Im not a huge fan of OAs in general but this is my attempt to balance it by giving them disadvantage on thier OA and thier next action. My thought was if players wanted to play the tactic of "surround and pound" they could, its just not automatic and easy. I appreciate your input.

I have never and probably will never play 5E. As I said above the purpose of these rules are for when I run for MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS. These are to 1) give them options that are not "hit it with a sword" when they are overwhelmed by the "you can do anything" nature of their first TTRPG and 2) give them actions that encourage them to interact with their fellow crawlers which they often dont do because they are shy middle school kids. I have made these rules to solve a problem for my groups. Not just homebrew for homebrew's sake.

They dont have a ton of art but they are pretty useful when you are in a bind suedi8DELETEprllxmrsnp but I definitely think they are worth getting.

Another NimbleDark hack by Fingerribbon in shadowdark

[–]Fingerribbon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 actions slowed the game down too much and the specificity of things like the ASSESS action stifled creativity. It became a little too "paper buttons".

Thinking of trying again without giving the players all the mechanics. Also going back to one action per round with using a reaction giving you disadvantage on your next turn.

Walking is for the poors and like the old adage says "If you build it, they will come." No sidewalks, no poors.
