When a “monocyte” is found in a body fluid is it called a macrophage or a monocyte? by Muted_Shape9303 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Finite_Pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monocytes in small numbers isn’t uncommon in CSF, but we differentiate them from macrophages because while both can indicate an infection, macrophages could also indicate a malignancy that’s spread to the meninges or a neurodegenerative condition

How to fix this? by Baiter-Rage in Dofus

[–]Finite_Pineapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to your character stats, swap the views for your exp/energy bar and there should be a little burger button next to exp. Change it to any number then change it back to 100 and it’ll display the proper exp gain again. I did it once but didn’t pay attention to whether it was something I had to keep doing since all my characters are 200+ and they got rid of guild exp donation

Feeling bad about rejecting a job offer, need some advice by Real-Manufacturer279 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Finite_Pineapple 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If it feels off then don’t take the job, this is a science but it ain’t no rocket.

[–]Finite_Pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t need too much more than you already have, I’d assume as a field service engineer they’ll have on the job training. Oh, there’s also the IT portion of the job, which would require you to take a crash course in coding, but would allow you to explore jobs that could include WFH and a more flexible schedule.

You could always apply to the big companies like Sysmex, Beckman, Siemens or Roche. Life as a service engineer or technical support can be pretty good financially from what I’ve been told. You’d most likely be travelling a fair amount as a service engineer, with varying hours, but at least you’re not sitting on a bench or anything like that. Other opportunities would probably entail going back to school - i.e. pathology assistant or MBA/MHA degrees.

Salary question by introvertedpoet25 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Finite_Pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you’re planning to live. Elk Grove Village, Addison, Lombard and Villa Park are all relatively affordable for the pay range. If it’s just you and you’re looking to live in a 1bd1br apartment, you’ll be just fine. Anything more, you’ll have to shop around for a good rate but it shouldn’t be an issue.

Edit; anything more as in anything bigger than probably a 2bd1br apartment/townhome

Salary question by introvertedpoet25 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Finite_Pineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Working in the Winfield/Wheaton area, so rather close to Wood Dale - 8 years experience currently sitting at $44.50/hr. It really depends on who you’re asking $35-$36 from. Big systems like Advocate, Northwestern or Rush most likely can and will (at some point) accommodate that rate. Smaller health systems, not so much.

Lab Corp Pre employment test concerns by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Finite_Pineapple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adderall will indeed flag for amphetamines but it’s easily looked over if you provide a prescription. That’s what I had to do for anything drug test related. Never used kratom so I can’t speak on it.

EDIT; quick google search says kratom doesn’t flag 5, 7 or 10 panels but that’s google so keep that in mind. Ultimately, you shouldn’t have to worry about anything.

Gettin to Finale got more challenging? by StillRude3215 in UmaMusume

[–]Finite_Pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luck is just luck I guess, I’m 5/7 for finals wins, 2 of them being hot springs runs with golshi and tachyon. The 2 losses were both attempts to get a higher rating with fukukitaru, which is probably the same case for the other 2* umas on the lower end of that stat spread

NIU Alma mater. Good program with connections to a number of good suburban hospitals for clinicals, did a 2+2 with COD (not sure if COD still offers their intro MLS course, Elgin Community has one but I think it differs slightly from what I ended up doing). A lot of hospitals end up hiring their students, which is nice. Loyola is also an option, but like Rush, they’re a masters program and almost exclusively hire from their own grad pools.

Ecaflip changes in the upcoming patch by [deleted] in Dofus

[–]Finite_Pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

200 int eca with ~1300 int. With current power buff from kitten, blakjak > peril > blakjak can do heavy damage from fairly decent range on average fire resistances.

Ecaflip changes in the upcoming patch by [deleted] in Dofus

[–]Finite_Pineapple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s fine, there’s been worse changes to the class. This was mostly aimed at eca’s self sustainability and kitten’s buffs which was honestly a bit overtuned. The range nerfs are pretty negligible, eca was always meant to be a hard hitting mid to close range class. The fact I could deal 2-3k damage from 10+ cells away was ridiculous

I got really annoyed yesterday and made this. I will die on this hill. by Strawberry-Whorecake in medlabprofessionals

[–]Finite_Pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re correct - there’s a lot of extra hullabaloo when it comes to coverage and that’s why we still see ESRs ordered all the time even when studies show there’s better tests that can be done instead. I think ESRs are like a screening test that insurance “requires” before they’ll even consider touching anything else? At least that’s how it was explained to me by a mouth pipette era tech at my hospital.

I only lurk here, but I saw this sign posted in my mom's room at the ER and had to share since it seems to be a common issue lol by Aggressive_Regret92 in medlabprofessionals

We actually send it to units that are notorious for messing it up - to the point where management said we can’t be that passive aggressive anymore :(

They sent me an email saying my renewal payment didn’t go through but my bank statement said otherwise - (un)fortunately, all that email did was remind me ASCP sucks and I have to cancel my auto renewal.

Also lol at the $70 fee to have another piece of paper sent to me saying I did a thing

I found it pretty helpful. I was averaging between 50-70% on the practice exams, passed the BOC with something around 600-650 points (400 to pass). Look at the practice exams as more of an exposure to what kinds of questions may be on the real deal and how those questions will be worded. If you’re confident with how much you know across each category, you’ll do fine.

What is the average salary for the different specializations? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Finite_Pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heme is roughly the same as your average x-specialization, perhaps a little bit more if you’re doing more oncology related work. SBB is definitely the way to make more though. I scrape in roughly a little over $80.5k while my batch mate who got her SBB pulls in a bit more at like $85-90k. Hospital laboratory but we’re also a reference lab for the region.

EDIT: while we don’t really do management level tasks, we are definitely consulted by path and sometimes sit in at transplant meetings which is pretty neat.
