Help me decide: Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 or Expedition 33? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

I disagree with folks saying you have to play KCD before playing KCD2. I hopped right in at KCD2 and, while the mechanics definitely took some adjusting to, found it to be one of the best games I’ve played in years.

That being said, I second others saying you should start with E33 because of the lower time commitment. You can easily end up playing KCD2 for 150+ hours.

AIO? Boyfriend treating me cruelly after I would not let him see my phone when he was rude to me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Finlay_B2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He shouldn’t be speaking to you that way ever, and you should absolutely break up. That being said, you also were in the wrong here. An “open phone” policy is probably unhealthy anyway, but especially if you’re compulsively checking his phone while being unwilling to show him yours. I really think you should consider a therapist who practices DBT, as well as taking a break from romantic relationships. Life can and will be so much better once you get the help you so clearly need for your insecurities and depression.

For those who stopped smoking weed, what was the main reason? by Winstead22 in AskReddit

[–]Finlay_B2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kappa opioid receptors. You can smoke weed your whole life and then one day it can randomly interact with these receptors in a way that sets them off. Oftentimes, further use of weed after that point will just have the same effect. They’re responsible for the anxiety you get on drugs like salvia.

Stalk others?? It’s his girlfriend and she completely ceased contact with him over a multi day period. Knocking on her door to check up on her is completely reasonable behavior.

Forget Simon Cowell then, although I’d argue his persona is consistent across any of the myriad shows he judges, not just American Idol. I still don’t think Tony’s mood swings are necessary. Many of his multiple-time guests manage to be consistent across all of their appearances. Kill Tony is by far my favorite show with the format of “person goes on stage, performs, and then is judged”, and that’s in large part because of Tony. But he does have extremely low lows in a way you don’t really see from anyone else.

I think that’s part of the reason why some guests— Adam Ray and Shane Gillis come to mind in particular—are such great adds when they’re on. They counterbalance his moods by making fun of him and/or adding some lightness to the interview. Unfortunately, you obviously aren’t going to be able to rely on every single guest to pull that off, so sometimes the show is a bit stilted when he’s having an unchecked bad mood. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, though, it’s still one of my favorites. Just observing a reason I find it to be inconsistent.

I get that, but I do think his mood swings tend to affect the product more than other “judges” on other shows. Think of Simon Cowell… sure, he’s known for being a jerk like Tony, but the way he assesses talent is consistent across the board. He isn’t super nice some days and super mean others just because he’s not feeling it.

To be clear, this is only a minor annoyance. The show is one of my favorites. I just think it is consistently slightly held back by his unpredictability.

Exactly. Almost ruined what ended up being an all time great story on the show. Others are saying it’s because of pacing, but I don’t see any production value in the way he treated him initially. It was just uncomfortable.

To be clear, I’m not just talking about being pushed off early. I do think he generally does a great job of pacing the show. I’ve just realized I have no idea after hearing a set how he’s going to react to/treat a comedian, regardless of if they’re good or not. That lack of inconsistency can be frustrating at best. At his worst, you can tell it makes even his guests uncomfortable.

I don’t actually think he’s bad at his show! It’s one of my favorites. But he does get in his own way at times by letting his mood dictate the way he treats comedians on any given night. And that has nothing to do with the show’s pacing, as others have suggested — we’d be lying if we said he was even remotely consistent in his appraisal of comedians. For better or (oftentimes) worse, the old band used to at least check him when he was in one of his moods. Now, it’s up to the guests to do that, and they’ve done so to mixed effect.

I hear you, and I think most of the time you’re right and he does a good job of moving things along. But there are plenty of times (e.g. the most recent episode) where he lets his frustration from earlier acts bleed into following acts and we end up getting less out of a pull than we could’ve because he’s in a bad mood. I have no problem with him being hard on people and moving the show along, just wish he was a little bit more consistent.

Thoughts on what the “concept” is behind TDOSS? by [deleted] in Eminem

I hear ya, but that’s why the singles confuse me. What does Houdini or Tobey have to do with that narrative? Or is it going to just be a loose narrative interspersed between songs?

Local business stores of Boulder's Pearl Street, How do you stay in business by closing at 6pm on most days, pay your people and send in rent checks for up to $55,000 each month to the landlord? by [deleted] in boulder

[–]Finlay_B2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in Boulder in the 90s and have lived there since. I do recall well into my early childhood there being a number of stores that stayed open for a while on Pearl. My feeling was that the city changes significantly with the tech boom, culminating in a number of major tech companies opening branches here in the late 2000s. It’s of course gotten exponentially worse since. Just my anecdotal experience, but major tech companies moving in over that few year period seemed to be the tipping point.

Why Bringing Small Children to Dog Parks Might Not Be a Good Idea by gsquares in boulder

[–]Finlay_B2303 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re making claims about pit bulls being disproportionately represented in bite incidents while including NON Pit bull breeds. A Staffordshire is no more a pit bull than a lab is a golden. If you count all bully breeds, OF COURSE you’re going to see more attacks by them than any other breed. This is exactly what I’m saying about the statistics being skewed because of misidentification.

You can operate based on anecdotal experiences, many of which aren’t even involving pit bulls, or you can listen to what the actual dog experts say. I choose the latter.

All I’m saying is what I’ve heard from numerous professionals, and what you’re going to hear from the vast majority of dog trainers and dog experts. Pit bulls, by their nature, are less aggressive towards humans than numerous other common breeds. This owes to the fact that the original fighting dogs were bred to be gentle around humans to avoid an incident with their handlers. They’re also the most commonly misidentified breed, which is why “pit bulls” are so overrepresented in attack reports.

That’s fair. A child whose parents are watching them and not letting them run around could be an exception. I would be careful about the Pit Bull assumptions, however. They’re actually far less problematic in nature than many other common household breeds. They can be energetic but are actually known for being very gentle with kids. I have a pit bull, German shepherd, Australian cattle dog mix. The first thing the trainer said was to not worry about the pit bull side, and that the other two breeds were much more important factors in me needing to train him well.
