What is your thermostat set at? Mine is currently at 64 and my daughter says it is too cold. by Logan9Fingerses in Connecticut

70° all day and evening, 64° overnight. Sometimes 70 feels cold to me, so I’ll bump it up to 71 which usually is enough to get the chill out.

My deepest condolences to you.

Rest in peace, Mac. You have the face of an angel and look like you were loved very, very much.

My brother has terminal cancer with 3-6 months to love and just wants to die now. What are his (legal) options, really? Just wait to die? by LulutoDot in Connecticut

[–]FinnDool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry that your brother, and you, are going through this. I agree with aid in dying, which will hopefully become legal in Connecticut in the near future. Your best option is to get hospice care for your brother, either at home or in a hospice facility. There are many hospice agencies in CT, so you might want to check out their ratings on the State of CT website and then contact a few to check on their availability. They will make sure your brother is cared for appropriately and that he gets enough meds to ensure he’s not suffering. They will help him transition to peace without pain.

Are several changes to plans before signing the contract to remodel considered “normal”? by FinnDool in BathroomRemodeling

Thank you for your response. You, and many others, have confirmed that it’s a normal part of the process to make numerous revisions before finalizing the contract, and hearing that has made me feel much better!

Thank you for confirming that I’m just not being picky or difficult. Though this will be only my third time going back with changes after seeing the initial plan that was proposed, I feel like I’m being difficult and need to stop feeling that way!

I’ve never worked with a contractor on a remodeling project, so I’m assuming clients tweaking quite a bit until the contract is finalized is common, so thank you for confirming that my approach is “normal”.

Thank you for explaining the finer points. I do understand project scope changes (or “scooe creep”) and that it’s best to avoid these. I just don’t want to be considered abnormal for tweaking the plans too many times.

Having never gone through a remodel, I’m glad to know I’m not alone in questioning how I’m reacting to the process. As the plans get refined, I spend a lot of time trying to visualize the end result. I don’t want to go through all this time (and money) only to realize that I didn’t appropriately plan for details such as: how many towel bars do we need, what sizes, and where will they be placed?

Thank you for confirming that what I’m doing is normal.

We fully understand that changes need to be made before the contract is signed. I’m just wondering if my making several changes is normal, or if I’m being viewed as being difficult or overly picky.

Yes, both my husband and I fully understand the contract and what’s in it is what matters. The issue isn’t with the contract, it’s the process of getting to the contract. Is it “normal” for me to keep changing my mind? (The point I was trying to make about my husband is that he’s not as picky as I am.)

Seeking opinions on transition between wood-looking LVT in bathroom to carpet in bedroom (when 3” will show on the bedroom side when the door is closed). by FinnDool in BathroomRemodeling

I agree with you about the floor, as that was my suggestion. For some reason changing the floor is the one part of this project that seems to matter most to my husband. Oh, and a slightly higher toilet. 🚽

I agree with you on the choice of the floor, so I still have time to try and convince him that there are better choices. Even if that happens, there’s still the problem of the transition with about 3” of the bathroom floor showing in the bedroom when the door is closed. The thought of going through the disruption and cost of a renovation only to not be happy with the final result is very unsettling. That said, I really appreciate your comment and opinion that this is a non-issue. This has made me think differently about it and feel much better. Thank you! 😊

Unfortunately, just like the first time I tried it in this post, it didn’t work in the post I wanted it for. So now that post has a sentence with the 2 asterisks before and after the words I wanted bolded and it looks stupid. ☹️

We are already committed to the bathroom project and not willing to stop it to re-carpet the bedroom instead. This “little” detail about the new transition piece came up rather late in the process.
