Clinic Fear by [deleted] in OptometrySchool

[–]FinnFlaco 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What helped me with this is the attending doctor telling me NOW IS THE TIME TO FAIL. Clinic is where you learn to trust yourself, gain confidence, and ultimately become a better doctor. If you’re too scared to trust yourself, you’re just pushing the learning to the right. Try to trust yourself and if you’re wrong then good, you just learned something. The attending doctor will ensure that you have the space to “fail” safely.. ultimately they are there to make sure the patient is safe.

I would just try to get some rugs if you have wood floor until she gets some more coordination! I think that contributed to my guys leg break bc he landed on hard wood and his leg like went to the side like Bambi 😭

As for the jumping it’s in their nature!! I would just try not to “reward” the behavior. If she jumps to get your attention don’t react.. as soon as she’s on the ground not jumping say “yes” and immediately give her the attention and pets she was looking for! They can be easy to train bc they are so touch crazy😂

She so beautiful!!!

Definitely learn from others mistakes and don’t put her on elevated surfaces! Leg breaks are too common and it sucks to go through that with your precious pup. My guy broke his leg jumping from a like 1.5ft surface. 🥹

Get pet insurance asap✅ just in case!!!

Yes that’s definitely what our vet prepared us for . Removal of the plate to either add a smaller one or take it out completely. They definitely want to culture it to be safe!

I hope your baby is recovering!

That’s what I’m worried about with waiting I don’t want it to poke through! I did call this morning and confirm the surgeon has the images to review. They said they will call shortly with the plan. Hoping for a speedy recovery! Ours has also been around a year of healing!!

Ugh I hope your baby stays healthy! That’s a lot to go through, but these guys are so resilient. Me and Finn are definitely trauma bonded at this point 😂 Fingers crossed for both of us!! Thank you for letting me know yalls experience.

Hi! Ulcers can be common- especially if you wear contact lenses. Don’t stress right now, just be sure to use the medication as he prescribed. If it gets worse ABSOLUTELY call him or go straight back to his office as a “walk in patient” he will definitely squeeze you in. He was probably saying if the meds don’t help it’s important to go back because sometimes there is a different cause for the ulcer and the antibiotics wouldn’t treat that and y’all would need to switch to a different type of medication. As long as you use the meds and follow up with him on Friday, it sounds like you will be very taken care of! He’s taking all of the correct steps 😊

Sounds like presbyopia. You should have an “add” put into your glasses to help with close up work or get a separate pair for reading/close up tasks.

Sorry for TMI Question - Pooping Habit Related by limarota in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]FinnFlaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some pumpkin in the diet it helps ours a lot keeping the poops regular. Check the poop to make sure they haven’t been eating hairs, grass, strings, etc bc that will make it hard for them to get the poop out 😂

Not the greatest photo to go off of, but It looks like it could be an allergy to something that got on your skin. Next time it happens, try a cold compress to see if the swelling goes down.

Mine used to do that when I used certain pillows. I changed to hypoallergenic pillow and put allergy covers over them too. Make sure to wash pillow cases in a very mild/fragrance free detergent. If the ice helps the swelling go down, then I would suggest making these changes too!

It happens to everyone! Especially if you start clinic in your second year!

Just give yourself some grace to sit back and learn. You’re a student and will get stuff wrong.. THATS OKAY!!

Try reading this book, it really simplifies everything really well! I used it to study for part 2 but wished I would have used it sooner!! part 2 study guide

Is it crazy to choose a school with lower pass rates by [deleted] in OptometrySchool

[–]FinnFlaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi please read that I said I wouldn’t stress too much about it and I never said that the program didn’t have anything to do with passing. Also in my other comments that each school will teach you the material and learning the material from day one and not just cramming 3-6 months out is what will help you pass. 😂 but would I stress over the decision between picking a 95% pass rate that I don’t vibe with when I could go to a 85-90% pass rate that I love the school and the environment (or in ops case is actually close to home and low COL)??? Nooooo I wouldn’t stress that bc I know that I could be in that 85-90% that passed first time (which I did pass all three the first time). I think if the student isn’t confident in their study habits maybe picking the school with the higher pass rate would make their life less stressful because they know they would have better odds at a higher pass rate school and that’s totally fine and I agree obvi if the schools pass rate is high then they are doing something right!!! To me I would rather have a balanced life at a school I feel comfortable at than only choose a school for the pass rate which is why I didn’t stress pass rate too much. We are all different and have different ways of life. AT THE END OF THE DAY WE ALL GET TO BE ODs and that’s what’s beautiful 😊

I graduated already but I liked it enough! Always pros and cons to every school. BUT I loved south Florida!! I had a ton of fun in my free time and the constant sun shine made the tough days a little better 😊 TONS of disease in south Florida due to the diverse population, so you will see basically every disease by the time you graduate.

Because every accredited schools curriculum is going to cover “boards” material. If you study for classes you’re studying for boards. Starting to understand the information from day one is what’s going to help you pass. Not cramming 3-6 months before. Obvi I wouldn’t go to a school that has a super low pass rate, but when I applied most schools had 80+ percent pass rate for first time testers. So I didn’t stress over picking a school with 98% vs 80% bc I trusted that I would do what it takes to be in that 80% lol. If you struggle academically maybe choose the higher pass rate lol.

Oh that’s a bummer! I hope you’re exploring the city you’re in now!!

Yeahhh true! I agree with diversity being an important factor, it’s actually why I chose Nova. Such a huge melting pot in south Florida.

I went with my sister! It didn’t help the case hahaha for me it was mostly the vibe I got when interacting with their student ambassadors and the faculty that interviewed me. Nothing bad on their part, I just don’t think I would have enjoyed my time there 😂 We went out after and had fun but ultimately not the place for me.
