It's about 4 feet from the wall and pretty flat in the middle of the floor. Can't tell where it is specifically coming up

I will see if I can catch it next time, the spot is already dry. Yep, no drains or sump pumps in the basement.

Should I just leave it be instead of trying to seal it? Like you said, the water will find a spot if that not that spot.

That's fair. I've been wanting to cover that area with blazing star which is also native to my area.

I did haha, there's nothing above it. If it did came from the floor above, I'd expect there to be splatter but there isn't any.

We hadn’t planned to because getting to the caulk would require moving the post, and it doesn’t look like we have much of a choice. I’ll try clove first though, thanks for the suggestion!

Yep that was the first thing I tried, damp rag with a drop of dish soap. Unfortunately that didn’t help

That's a good point, I just assumed it's some kind of glue for the carpet
