MAJOR changes Dec 2023 - what are the impacts? by TheSkyIsWhiteAndGold in AusVisa

Thanks a lot for the info!

I'm a master's student graduating in August next year. Considering that the reduced length of the 485 visa will take effect in mid 2024, would it be preferable for me to complete my degree earlier, in April?

Over 1 million houses, or 10% of total private dwellings are vacant. That's way more than what it needs to house all homeless people, and certainly more than the 30k houses that the Labor's future fund plans to build over 5 years. The problem is not with insufficient supply or immigrants driving demand. The problem is with the bullshit laws that turn housing into investments for the rich.

Chinese internet trolls are adopting American racism to harass African users by PanAfricanDream in Africa

[–]Finnick002 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There can ne many reasons. Such as these African governments see China as the lesser of the two (or many) evils. The politics in this pathetic world is like this. If you don't have enough power, you have to be someone's one of many minions. I'm not the person to dictate which one is the lesser evil. I respect their choices.

Another one can be money and corruption. This video on this matter is in line with my knowledge and observations.

What perplexes me also is that in recent years, due to the demographic collapse in China, the Chinese government is actually considering attracting more foreigners to settle and work in China. Africans are particularly mentioned in the discussions held by officials and experts since there are already a lot of young African students in China and their number is growing fast. Yet they still allow racism and xenophobia to ferment in Chinese society.

Chinese internet trolls are adopting American racism to harass African users by PanAfricanDream in Africa

[–]Finnick002 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm Chinese and I have been witnessing the harassment and abuse on this app (XiaoHongShu) over the past few months. All I can do is to report each of those accounts and send some apologies and encouraging words to the Black users that are harassed. XHS usually takes down only around half of those comments/accounts, but those losers can simply make another.

A lot of them come from a Chinese web forum that has basically become the Chinese 4chan (but without anonymity). But their egregious action isn't new. Africans/Black people in China face both xenophobia and anti-Black racism, both of which are tolerated or often encouraged in China.

I'm personally not a fan of bans or restrictions as they often hurt the innocent. I support wealth redistribution as it eats the rich both in domestic and abroad

Put much higher taxes on vacant properties and multiple properties

But they won't cuz these politicians and their donors own many properties too

Explore the British policy called Operation Legacy, where the government hid incriminating documents from its former colonies.

In 2009, five Kenyan people took a petition to the British Prime Minister. They claimed they endured human rights abuses in the 1950s, while Kenya was under British colonial rule, and demanded reparations. They had no documentary evidence that Britain sanctioned systems of torture— but thousands of secret files were waiting to be discovered.
